2009 Picks to click..........

Post by TheJON »

I'm not the type that likes to puss away from predictions or won't stand behind my picks or claim that they made a prediction on something after the fact like many on here, so here's my picks for the upcoming season (note: as I've thought about it, I have changed some of my predictions from what I have earlier stated).........

Top 25........

1.Oklahoma- I really believe Stoops will get it done this year in the title game
2.Ohio State- I know this is the title game no one wants, but tOSU has a favorable schedule and their best shot to knock off USC. I think both OU and tOSU will go unbeaten.
3.California- I know m2 is a tool, but this team really does have a lot of potential and Oregon is their only tough road game and will be their only loss.
4.Florida- They're going to get knocked off somewhere. The breaks will not go their way every game like they have for so long. They'll still be very good, but they're going to miss Percy Harvin more than they think.
5.Oregon- They get USC and Cal at home. I would not be surprised to see them lose to Boise State to open the season and then run the table. It's possible.
6.Alabama- Another team with a tough opener (Va Tech) that could run the table after. Could also see them being 4-2 to start the year and finish off with a 6 game win streak.
7.Texas- Colt McCoy is going to be amongst the list of disappointing players in CFB this year. I think he really overachieved last year. But that's a loaded team. The only difference I see between them and OU is the RB's. OU has more weapons there.
8.Virginia Tech- Props to them for playing a brutal OOC schedule. I think the ACC is very weak and so I can see them losing a game OOC (perhaps to Bama) and still ending up 11-1 or 10-2, plus an ACC championship game win.
9.Boise State- Beat Oregon to start the year and it's back to the BCS for Boise. I have no idea who else they could lose to. Should be a double digit favorite in all the rest of their games.
10.Notre Dame- I still believe Weis was the right guy. The schedule is overall weak, and I could see them sneaking into the Top 10 simply on reputation.
11.Iowa- Call me a homer.....whatever. This team returns a lot of proven Big-10 caliber players and has as good of a shot as anyone to finish 2nd in the league!
12.Miami- There's too much talent at The U for them to not eventually get this thing turned around. Randy Shannon is a good coach, and they'll get it done this year.
13.Georgia- The biggest game of their season might hinge upon the opener vs Oklahoma State. Win that game and put yourself in a good position later in the season to make a run at the BCS. More likely a CapOne or Outback team, but a few breaks on Richt has them back in the BCS.......again.
14.Oklahoma State- Beat Georgia and start playing for the BCS. Lose to Georgia and start playing for the Cotton.
15.USC- This is the year the Trojans take a small step back. I know Barkley is allegedly the second coming, but he's a freshman and no team in the country has more difficult road games than USC. And a lot of those road games are in the first half of the year. I could see 3 losses for the Trojans.
16.Illinois- They're going to be a big surprise team this year. They're too talented not to. They'll still lose a game or 2 they shouldn't but they'll win a game or 2 you didn't expect them to. Juice is going to be a Heisman candidate.
17.Florida State- I'm not real confident in this pick. With their off field issues, it's either they go 5-7 or they win 9-10 games. Just depends if they use it as motivation or as a distraction. We shall see.
18.Kansas- Would have Nebraska here if the KU-NU game was in Lincoln. Reesing is a very underrated QB and he's experienced. Schedule plays out perfectly for a 9-10 win season.
19.Auburn- That defense is still going to be great, so if they can just get any improvement at QB, they can win 8-9 games. They will fade towards the end of the year but they'll start out 7-0 or 6-1.
20.Clemson- Relatively light schedule, should have one of the top defense's in the nation. CJ Spiller will run for over 1,100 yards.
21.Cincinnati- Tough non-conference schedule but they should be the best team in the Big East. 9-3 or 10-2 is very doable.
22.Ole Miss- They're a good team, I'm just not buying into their BCS hype. Gotta love Jevon Snead though and Houston Nutt is one of the best coaches in the country.
23.LSU- They're going to pull an upset against a team like Florida, but I'm still not completely sold on them on either side of the ball. If they can get some major QB improvement then I could see them winning 10 games.
24.Penn State- I'm just not sold on them completely. Good team, favorable schedule, but they will get torched in the secondary by any team that can throw the ball decent, the O-line returns just 2 starters, and they have no experience at WR. I love Darryl Clark, but who is he throwing to and who is blocking for him? If anything were to happen to Clark they will have a losing record.
25.North Carolina- Lot's of returning starters from a quality team. Better watch out for these guys in 2010. A sleeper national title team perhaps.

3 other teams to watch out for......

Michigan State, Arkansas, Pittsburgh

3 teams I'm not buying into their hype........

Oregon State, Nebraska, Georgia Tech

5 other crazy predictions........

1.Neither Tim Tebow or Colt McCoy will even be invited to New York for the Heisman award.

2.Notre Dame will make the BCS again because of reputation and not because they deserved it.

3.Sam Bradford will repeat as Heisman trophy winner, but Juice Williams will be his runner-up

4.Ohio State will go unbeaten in-spite of Terelle Pryor, not because of him.

5.Michigan will NOT get back to a bowl game this year, but they will come close. DickRod will start to feel the pressure......

The Heisman Finalists.....

1.Sam Bradford, QB Oklahoma
2.Juice Williams, QB Illinois
3.Dez Bryant, WR Oklahoma State
4.Jahvid Best, RB California

Ranking the conferences.....

1.SEC
2.Pac-10
3.Big-12
4.Big-10
5.ACC
6.Big East

Tebow will be in New York even with avg numbers.

it'll be fun to watch (and can't say i won't be hoping for) Tebow to take snaps under center for the first few games...find he aint a good passer, and go back to the same Tebow as last year in the shotgun option reads etc etc.

Don't worry, it will be just like 2002 where you were an average team that got 10,000 breaks a game to go your way and ended up *14-0.

JON, who is Illinois going to stop on defense? Tissue paper, man...I don't care if you can score 30 points a game if your opponent can score 35.

Did you watch any Big-12 football last year?

They'll score enough to offset their lack of defense. They do have some good athletes on defense though. Juice is going to have a big year. Yeah, they'll win some games 35-31 and they'll probably lose a couple like that. Their defense will probably keep them from winning the league or being as good as they could be, but their offense is BY FAR the best in the league and that should be good enough for 8-9 wins.

For the record........probably 99% of non-Ohio State fans in the country would agree with me in saying that was not pass interference. Those photos show nothing. If you call PI on that play, you gotta call it on basically every pass. Wow, the defender kinda touches him. Big fucking deal. In that situation you absolutely do not make that call......period. Take off your Buckeye goggles and just fucking admit it. You got breaks all season long and just as easily as you won a national title, you could have been an Alamo Bowl team. Admit it. That doesn't mean you shouldn't have celebrated like crazy back in 2002, but fuck man........that wasn't pass interference and your team was merely a decent team and it's an absolute joke that a team like that won a national title. It's like Cardinals fan in 2006 that just won't fucking admit they were maybe the 9th or 10th best team in baseball but they played in a HORRIBLE division and then got every break to go their way in the playoffs (ahem, Tigers pitchers forgetting how to throw to first and Jeff Weaver not sucking balls) so they won the World Series. Same thing with Ohio State in 2002. The breaks went your way more than any team EVER, and I just don't understand why you guys can't admit to it. It doesn't matter really........you were national champs and that's all that really matters. So why is it so hard to just admit these things?

Say it Buckeye fans........you were a decent team, the breaks went your way, there's no fucking way that pass interference should have been called, but you were the champs. Such fucking homers.

No, most objective college football fans realize that was PI and a good call. If OSU wasn't a good team, they would have gotten their doors blown off by the team with superior athletes, like the other Big 10 team in a major bowl that year.

Oh and that Juice Williams you building up is the same guy that was benched last year because he sucks balls throwin the ball.

USC would have beat Miami by the same amount they beat Iowa. They were the best team in the country that year and it wasn't even close. The only reason they weren't playing for a national title is because it took them a little while to get rolling. Once they did, they were unbeatable. In fact, it's the best team I have ever seen in person. By the time Iowa got to play them, there wasn't a single team in America that could have kept it within 2 touchdowns.

Dude is going to put up monster numbers this year both running and passing. He will, without a doubt, lead the Big-10 in total offense and it won't even be close. His one fault is the interceptions, but if he cuts that down, there isn't a better player in the conference at that position and he's throwing to the best WR in the league as well. He did throw for 3,200 yards last year and had a few games where he rushed for over 100 yards. He will throw for 3,400 yards and rush for about 600. Name 1 other player in the conference that has the potential to come even CLOSE to putting up those kind of numbers?

4000 all purpose yards? Terelle Pryor has a chance, no matter how much you think he sucks.

And no, USC wouldn't have beat Miami by 2 TD's. It would have been an evenly matched game .

I can't see how Pryor gets even close to 4,000.

I think it will go like this....

Passing....
Juice 3,400
Pryor 1,900

Rushing....
Juice 650
Pryor 750

Total.....
Juice 4,050
Pryor 2,650

I don't think Pryor will even be remotely close to 4,000 yards.

In fact, I bet the following players have more all-purpose yards than Pryor.....

Darryl Clark, Ricky Stanzi, Adam Weber, and Juice Williams.

Pryor will lead all Big-10 QB's in rushing yards, but there will not be a single QB in the league that plays the entire season and throws for fewer yards than him.

The Big 10 is a slow and boring offensive conference. Terrell Pryor is at least fun to watch. He is a talented runner and is learning to pass. The guy from Texas who set the all time NCAA record for pass completions, who is not that good, who according to JON won't make it to NY, had 3,800+ yard passing and rushed for over 500 yards. If the benchmark for Juice is 3,400 and 600, Colt will have that by week 10.

Colt will be a finalist, he will throw for 4,000 yards, run for 400 and still complete 70% of his passes this year. He will also be a 1st round draft choice and will do more in the pros than Jesusbow.

Speaking of not that good, what is Drew Tate up to?

Not threatening to kill himself like Vince Young??????
Terrell Pryor is at least fun to watch.
Not me. Running QB's bore me. I like pro-style pocket passers. Running backs run the football. QB's throw the football. It's really quite simple.
If the benchmark for Juice is 3,400 and 600, Colt will have that by week 10.
Yes, and so would a slightly retarded 12 year old against a Big-12 defense.

and Terrell Pryor who lost against another one of the retarded defenses.....and Jesusbow who could only muster 24 points......

Missouri had a terrible defense and Illinois couldn't beat them in their Rose Bowl season. We took Colt out in the 3rd quarter after he had 5 TD passes and 350+ yards. OU put up 60 on Missouri. Big 10? :meds:

Drew Tate is a never was who would not have played in afl2. Vince is a head case. Great college player who is marginal in the pros due to work ethic. Don't forgot, JON, Vince was still the Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowler. Tate? Change of scenery will do Vince a world of good. I think he could be a serviceable QB, he just has to understand that he is not the be all end all in the pros like he was in college.

What impact will last year's Big 12 season have on this year's Big 10 season? Typical JONsense.
They'll score enough to offset their lack of defense.
People said the same things last year.

Someone explain to me what Drew Tate has to do with anything?? Last I checked he graduated a few years ago and the discussion is 2009. As for Mgo's comment- my point was that you can win games by simply just scoring a ton of points even if your defense blows. Big-12 football is exactly that. They play no defense. Wow, Harv, Texas stopped Terrelle Pryor. Uh, yeah congrats on containing a guy that threw for about 8 yards a game. Mad props and shit!

This makes no sense. What happens in the Big 12 is irrelevant. Illinois won't be playing those teams. They'll be playing Big 10 teams, and against defenses that are going to be pretty good.
