Re: Barkley officially USC's first freshman QB
Jsc, why would this news make you change your pick? The guy he beat out was also going to be a rookie QB for USC, albeit not a true freshman. The only difference is Corp has more time in the system, but he wasn't originally slated to be the starter this season anyway.
Barkley beating out Corp should simply mean that you're more confident about USC's chances than you were before. If you liked them with Corp, you should like them even more with the more heralded guy who beat out Corp.
By all accounts, he's a once in a generation pro style QB, with poise, maturity, smarts and physical tools beyond those of even Palmer and Sanchez. He's supposedly well ahead of where any USC QB has ever been, this early in their careers.
I don't give them much of a chance to go to the title game this year, not with either guy. This isn't the same deal as it was with Leinart, JDB and Sanchez. Those guys all followed the natural time table progression into the starting job, since they all followed seniors. None of them were rushed into the job prematurely, as was the case here, after Sanchez became the first USC QB to bolt early for the NFL.
Obviously, none of them were true freshman either, heading into The Horseshoe in week two of their learning curve.
Leinart went into Auburn in his very first start, but he'd had some time in the system, learning behind Carson Palmer.
USC will experience some growing pains this season, no matter how good Barkley is, and will become. Still, if he's really The Man, which everyone says he is, and now it's official, then I say good, let's not waste any time. Let's get this thing started. They probably won't have him for the full four years, so I'd just as soon see them get as much production as possible out of him.

Wow Van, just anoint him as the second coming of Christ......
Hell Bryan Bennett had a much better game than your stud had. Hell Bennett had 8 completions 4 of which were TD's.
Yes he'll experience growing pains, but don't shoo him off to the NFL so quickly. He's got a lot to learn and it's a steep learning curve as evident by the number of INT's he threw during camp, not to mention that he really didn't beat out Corp. If Corp didn't get hurt it may have been a different story.
Yes he's a stud but he threw a lot of interceptions for MD. He never led his team to a CIF championship. Crespi fucking rolled them two years ago in the playoffs. They probably won't have him for the full four years,

Re: Barkley officially USC's first freshman QB

Cheating in the program, assistant coaches bolting, Sanchez goes, center gets injured, DE injured, starting cb ineligible, freshman qb... Are things starting to crumble and a return to the Hackett era approaching?

No, you're an idiot. Just like your troll Van.
Re: Barkley officially USC's first freshman QB
Lax, was Bryan Bennett the number one ranked prospect of an entire class? Is he considered the best pure pro-style QB to come out of high school this decade? Is he good enough to be USC's first ever true freshman to start at QB?
The answers there would be no, no and no.
The answers regarding Barkley are yes, yes and yes.
Nobody's anointing him Tebow deity status just yet, and I already said I expect him to suffer through growing pains, but don't be obtuse. The guy is not just a run of the mill 'stud', as are most all QBs who are good enough to play QB at the D1 level; especially as freshman.
People who know a lot more about the guy than you or I do don't give a rat's ass about interceptions thrown in high school, for a meh team. The people who do this for a living see what he brings to the table, and by all accounts he's NFL 1st round draft pick material.
He's supposedly hands down better at this stage of his career than a #1 overall pick, Carson Palmer, a #5 overall pick, Mark Sanchez, and a #10 overall pick, Matt Leinart.
He also saw how Leinart cost himself money by staying for his senior year, and he saw how Sanchez received top 5 money by coming out early.
He'll be well aware of what a #1 pick can expect to receive, especially a #1 pick who's a QB from a glamour program...a 'franchise guy'.
If he stays healthy, no, I don't expect him to stay all four years, and neither do you, especially if he does well this year. The precedent has been set, and the money is too compelling. If all goes well then by the conclusion of his junior year he'll have been a three year starter, starring at QB for this era's USC team.
No, a guy like that is probably not sticking around for all four years.

i'm starting to agree with Jon that if m2 can't post about football and either 1. not jerk off to Cal in every post 2. not jerk off to Cal in every post with a Cal pic or 3. try and make an argument (we used to call this "a take and not suck") instead of geography ad hominems and fellating the sturdy Bears.....he brings nothing to the board. it's not funny. it's not provocative. it's certainly not interesting. it's stupid. he plays straight or dump him. or: turn off the troll, it's just dumb by now. more played out than bradhusker 3 and 4.

Why is Jon getting credit for this?

In all seriousness Jon was correct in another thread that Babs was banned for the same shit and less of it. Mtool has made the board virtually unreadable the last few months and burden to bother posting. Even for the off season the traffic here is way down compared to previous off seasons (especially with the season upon us). I know I am posting less frequently and the sole reason would be Tool's antics. There are other places to visit where you don't have to muddle through the wasteland of posts from one unintelligent, non-stimulating tripe. I'd prefer for this to be the place to visit for serious discussions without the blatant single fan homerism you get from your team boards. As of lately that has been made impossible by the StrawberryBlueTool.

What system? USC has had a different OC every year that Aaron Corp has been there and Barkley has been in new OC Jeremy Bates system as long as Corp has. Corp has been in the program longer than Barkley but I dont think the system that Bates is employing is the same program that Sarkisian or Kiffin had in during Corps first 2 years with the program.
What has my hopes for USCs season this year being down is the constant turnover in the coaching staff. When USC was good, Chow and Orgeron were the constants, and most the guys in place now were graduate assistants. It seems Pete has done what he could to remove any seasoned coaches that may have had any dissent in the way Pete wants the team to go and replaced them with young guys that Pete can mold. I see USC struggling this year maybe having the teams first 3 or more loss season since Carrolls first season, I hope that isnt the case but the constant turnover in his staff is something that is very concerning.

They still are good. When haven't they been good, besides 2001?
No, it seems like those seasoned coaches moved on to head coaching gigs, which is the natural progression for an aspiring head coach. He didn't remove Orgeron, Kiffin and Sarkesian; they left on their own, to take head coaching gigs elsewhere. It seems Pete has done what he could to remove any seasoned coaches that may have had any dissent in the way Pete wants the team to go and replaced them with young guys that Pete can mold.
Even Norm Chow left to take an OC gig in the NFL.
Pete didn't remove any of these guys.

Re: Barkley officially USC's first freshman QB
No, but he did out perform Barkley that one night as have many other QB's through out Barkley's career. I doubt that he's the best QB to come out of high school this decade. What did he do in high school? Did he win a championship? Did he lead his team to at leas the semi finals? Spare me the bullshit of being the Gatorade player of the year his Jr. Year. Shit, your alma mater has Ryan Kasdorf who was the Gatorade STATE player of the year can't get an offer from anyone so awards to me just like a lot of people don't mean shit.
How do you know he's not a run of the mill anything? He hasn't done anything to prove himself in a game situation. Shit every morning in the paper it was how he threw interception after interception. Ok, so don't worry about the interceptions in high school, but maybe you should worry about the ones in college without him getting hit. You say you're not anointing him as the next Tebow but you write that he's a 1st round draft pick and you don't expect him to stay all 4 years. How can ANYONE say that he's a first round draft pick without even taking a snap in college? Is Beano Cook back in business?Nobody's anointing him Tebow deity status just yet, and I already said I expect him to suffer through growing pains, but don't be obtuse. Supposedly being the operative word here. He's supposedly hands down better at this stage of his career than a #1 overall pick, Carson Palmer, a #5 overall pick, Mark Sanchez, and a #10 overall pick, Matt Leinart.
Leinart didn't come out early because his elbow was trashed and he was unhealthy so instead of grading weakly at the combine he decided to stay.He also saw how Leinart cost himself money by staying for his senior year, and he saw how Sanchez received top 5 money by coming out early.
....and which QB from this glamour program has done anything worth a shit in the NFL? Pat Haden? He'll be well aware of what a #1 pick can expect to receive, especially a #1 pick who's a QB from a glamour program...a 'franchise guy'.

I could give a shit what he does. Due to the fact that he plays for $C I fucking hate him and hope he fails miserably, but stays healthy. Who knows if he's going to stay around. You and I don't know that. If he struggles this year then is he really all he's cracked up to be? Who knows? Just because a guy looks good in T-shirts and shorts, and in scrimmages doesn't mean he's going to be wildly successful vs. the real McCoy. Let's just wait to see how year #1 progresses for him before you tell everyone he's going to be the #1 pick......
Hell your boy Sanchez looked great on his first throw the other night......
Re: Barkley officially USC's first freshman QB
With the SuC O-line he'll be able to pick his teeth waiting for a receiver to clear....UCLA is starting a RS Freshman who has practiced so far like a true frosh...but then again he's coming from Lax's alma mater.....and Prince will be having his blindside protected by 2 true freshmen.

Looks like the preps are lining up to play with Barkley, USC has Verbals fromt he #1 and #2 WRs and the #1 TE in this next seasons class. Maybe they should go all Cheesesteak and transfer all those kids closer to campus so no one else can recruit them.
