Jsc, why would this news make you change your pick? The guy he beat out was also going to be a rookie QB for USC, albeit not a true freshman. The only difference is Corp has more time in the system, but he wasn't originally slated to be the starter this season anyway.

Barkley beating out Corp should simply mean that you're more confident about USC's chances than you were before. If you liked them with Corp, you should like them even more with the more heralded guy who beat out Corp.

By all accounts, he's a once in a generation pro style QB, with poise, maturity, smarts and physical tools beyond those of even Palmer and Sanchez. He's supposedly well ahead of where any USC QB has ever been, this early in their careers.

I don't give them much of a chance to go to the title game this year, not with either guy. This isn't the same deal as it was with Leinart, JDB and Sanchez. Those guys all followed the natural time table progression into the starting job, since they all followed seniors. None of them were rushed into the job prematurely, as was the case here, after Sanchez became the first USC QB to bolt early for the NFL.

Obviously, none of them were true freshman either, heading into The Horseshoe in week two of their learning curve.

Leinart went into Auburn in his very first start, but he'd had some time in the system, learning behind Carson Palmer.

USC will experience some growing pains this season, no matter how good Barkley is, and will become. Still, if he's really The Man, which everyone says he is, and now it's official, then I say good, let's not waste any time. Let's get this thing started. They probably won't have him for the full four years, so I'd just as soon see them get as much production as possible out of him.

Yes he'll experience growing pains, but don't shoo him off to the NFL so quickly. He's got a lot to learn and it's a steep learning curve as evident by the number of INT's he threw during camp, not to mention that he really didn't beat out Corp. People who know a lot more about the guy than you or I do don't give a rat's ass about interceptions thrown in high school, for a meh team. The people who do this for a living see what he brings to the table, and by all accounts he's NFL 1st round draft pick material.

He's supposedly hands down better at this stage of his career than a #1 overall pick, Carson Palmer, a #5 overall pick, Mark Sanchez, and a #10 overall pick, Matt Leinart.

He also saw how Leinart cost himself money by staying for his senior year, and he saw how Sanchez received top 5 money by coming out early.

He'll be well aware of what a #1 pick can expect to receive, especially a #1 pick who's a QB from a glamour program...a 'franchise guy'.

If he stays healthy, no, I don't expect him to stay all four years, and neither do you, especially if he does well this year. The precedent has been set, and the money is too compelling. If all goes well then by the conclusion of his junior year he'll have been a three year starter, starring at QB for this era's USC team.

In all seriousness Jon was correct in another thread that Babs was banned for the same shit and less of it. Mtool has made the board virtually unreadable the last few months and burden to bother posting. Even for the off season the traffic here is way down compared to previous off seasons (especially with the season upon us). I know I am posting less frequently and the sole reason would be Tool's antics. There are other places to visit where you don't have to muddle through the wasteland of posts from one unintelligent, non-stimulating tripe. I'd prefer for this to be the place to visit for serious discussions without the blatant single fan homerism you get from your team boards. What system? USC has had a different OC every year that Aaron Corp has been there and Barkley has been in new OC Jeremy Bates system as long as Corp has. Corp has been in the program longer than Barkley but I dont think the system that Bates is employing is the same program that Sarkisian or Kiffin had in during Corps first 2 years with the program.
What has my hopes for USCs season this year being down is the constant turnover in the coaching staff. When USC was good, Chow and Orgeron were the constants, and most the guys in place now were graduate assistants. It seems Pete has done what he could to remove any seasoned coaches that may have had any dissent in the way Pete wants the team to go and replaced them with young guys that Pete can mold. I see USC struggling this year maybe having the teams first 3 or more loss season since Carrolls first season, I hope that isnt the case but the constant turnover in his staff is something that is very concerning.

No, it seems like those seasoned coaches moved on to head coaching gigs, which is the natural progression for an aspiring head coach. He didn't remove Orgeron, Kiffin and Sarkesian; they left on their own, to take head coaching gigs elsewhere.

Even Norm Chow left to take an OC gig in the NFL.

I could give a shit what he does. Due to the fact that he plays for $C I fucking hate him and hope he fails miserably, but stays healthy. Who knows if he's going to stay around. You and I don't know that. If he struggles this year then is he really all he's cracked up to be? Who knows? Just because a guy looks good in T-shirts and shorts, and in scrimmages doesn't mean he's going to be wildly successful vs. the real McCoy.
