*CONTEST* Three Best Bets -- Week One
*CONTEST* Three Best Bets -- Week One
Ok, let's do this.
Rules
- Make 3, 2, 1, or 0 selections each week
- Select vs. the spread or vs. over/under.
- You must use THIS site to find the lines for the games.
I want everyone to be working from the same site.
Place your "bet" any day of the week -- of course lines can (and do) move, and your "bet" will be based on the line at the the time you make your post.
- By year's end you must have "bet" on 30 games or more to be in contention as WINNER of this contest.
If not, you go on the stragglers, jag-offs and homos list.
- Player with the highest winning pct. on games picked is the winner.
BSmack DESTROYED in this game last year.
Props to him, again.

These are my three best bets for week one:
San Francisco v. Arizona - under 46
Cleveland +4 over Minnesota

Might want to put a sticky on this one mod. I'll be in to defend the crown later this week.

Re: *CONTEST* Three Best Bets -- Week One
I got a PM from someone who thinks we should not use the "moving line" from a place like Sportsbook, but should all make our picks based on the OPENING LINE so that there is never any confusion.
Any commnts on this?
Time is of the essense, so if you've got a take, bring it.

I say you're running the contest and you put up whatever line you want to use to keep everything level.poptart wrote:I got a PM from someone who thinks we should not use the "moving line" from a place like Sportsbook, but should all make our picks based on the OPENING LINE so that there is never any confusion.

Post the opening lines here and then let everyone run with what's right in their face...
But like Scott said, you're running the contest so you make the rules.

I agree with Wags. Post the opening lines every week and make everyone use them. Besides, damn Websense has Sportsbook block at work for being a gambling site.

Re: *CONTEST* Three Best Bets -- Week One
I prefer using moving lines, as some use that movement as decision-making info. FWIW, not all lines open at the same time, anyway, depending on injuries.
Re: *CONTEST* Three Best Bets -- Week One
Since week one kicks off in less than 24 hours, we'll use the Sportsbook lines for this week.
At that site, click on ... NFL Lines ... and you're there.
I'd like further comments, and I'll make a decision on how we'll proceed from week 2 when I can digest things.
I like the moving lines, as it adds a little strategy.
But I understand the criticism that it opens things up to become a little cloudy, and also for someone to be dishonest if they are inclined to be that way.
But it's also true that some lines are not posted until later in the week.
Everyone working from the same POSTED lines would make things much more clear, though.

Re: *CONTEST* Three Best Bets -- Week One
The game is off until such time as a line is posted then. It won't have moved, since it wasn't there to begin with. You edit the opening line to add that game. Simple.poptart wrote: But it's also true that some lines are not posted until later in the week.
Most people wait until later in the week to make their picks anyway.

IMO, as long as you can back up your posted lines with a link, then so be it. We are after all trying to identify the BEST bets. Besides, you have a pool full of sharks here who will call bullshit on just about anything. My favorite site last year was yahoo, who had 3 different lines. This year they have even more.poptart wrote:Since week one kicks off in less than 24 hours, we'll use the Sportsbook lines for this week.

I suspect Yahoo will also be more readily available to those who have nosy employers as well.

Re: *CONTEST* Three Best Bets -- Week One
I second B's suggestion of using yahoo for our lines. 99% of my computer time is spent at work, and finding time at home is difficult with a beautiful 7 month old running around. I can access yahoo atw ork, but not the betting site pop's has linked.BSmack wrote:IMO, as long as you can back up your posted lines with a link, then so be it.
