It is what it is. Cal is Cal, until they prove otherwise.
I forget if this is still true, but are there academic standards that most athletes don't have to go to either Cal or Stanford?
I hope the team you claim as your own gets rid of Jeff Tedford at the end of this season. Everybody down here wants Pat Hill gone. Hill puts a lot of players into the NFL (currently the most for any non-BCS school), but he loses close games to top programs all of the time. Pat Hill loses assistants to bigger programs and the NFL every year. He has a very talented team this year sans defensive backs, yet can't get it done. They are predictable.
The year Fresno State beat USC in the Freedom Bowl, Jeff Tedford called the game with guys like Trent Dilfer and Lorenzo Neal on the team that put 9 players into the NFL the next year. Tedford can recruit, is an offensive guru like Norm Chow. Cal cannot recruit athletes due to academic standards right? So unless something has changed with admissions, look at Tedford's predecessors and how good they've done. Also, who was the offensive coordinator at Oregon when Pat Hill was hired at Fresneck State? Mike Belotti took several former coordinators from Fresneck to Oregon.
I hope the school you are a fan of gets rid of Tedford, and Pat Hill somehow gets fired at the end of this year. Why do you think Cal hasn't scheduled Fresno State since Tedford has been there? Take a look at the last few times Fresneck and Cal have played and the results. With Tedford, they would have smoked the Neck with that talent and Tedford's schemes. He didn't want to make enemies back at his alma mater where he was the starting QB.
As a follow on and unrelated question, how does Fresno State's backup to David Carr, Lane Kiffin get head coaching jobs at Oakland then now at Tennessee? Does daddy Monte have that much pull? Hmm...
