Please Mace--no substitute teacher gig. When I took early retirement in 1994, the school district was paying $60 a day for subs. I told them to take a hike, they offered me $100 and I said the same thing. I got a job later at Cornell in entomology research that was actually fun and paid well. Stayed at that till we moved to SW FL. Now I am the science lab technician for the science building at Edison State College. Easy work, minimal contact with students, and a nice salary to help me pay down the 15 year mortgage on the estate. Look around-- local college ?? You must have organizational skills etc. that can get you on a payroll. Don't sell yourself short. Good luck !

Hell yeah Pasadena, Texas is right next door for a kick ass invitation to the Houston Bowl, or even a nice day trip to the Alamo Bowl where Iowa is probably really headed.

Skill sets? I've spent the past three decades interviewing criminals and directing them in the right direction for employment, substance abuse and mental health treatment, and dishing out consequences to hold them accountable. I've also watched enough guys pissing into a cup to turn Irie green with envy. I've got limited computer skills, no web design experience, but have considerable people skills.

I guess the questions is did you enjoy that? The skills lend themselves to counseling services very well. Maybe even working with kids in a family services capacity with church /non-profit group where you could make modest jack

Also have considerable experience in coaching baseball and field maintenance...enough so that I've considered talking to the Iowa Cubs groundskeeper about a job.

I still think serivces are a good gig - if your industrious. I know a guy that started an Oil change business - the spin was he came to your office / house did the change and disposed of the waste for $50. Surprisingly he did pretty well, beacuse no one had the time to take off work to get it done. Iowa City is close - you could run an ad for parents wanting to keep an eye on their Kids (pseudo PI) check on 'em and send the reports back to their folks. Or maybe your Dad away from home to help 'em with anything from car problems, rides, etc. Just brainstorming here.

You should come out to KC this weekend for the American Royal BBQ contest. One of the biggest in the country from what I understand. Not sure but heard this is where the founder of KC Masterpiece launched his enterprise.

I've had this bookmarked for about a year. I'm over halfway there saving for it. I just save birthday/xmas money from family. I also put some profits from Sauce sales in the hat. It will be mine.

A little less than 5k, but I plan on catering events in addition to competing to help offset the cost. Competing gets expensive. Like I said, more of a hobby than work but a lot of work involved. Work I enjoy doing though.

I especially love the warming oven over the firebox. You can throw fresh corn in there to roast, tray of baked beans, or what I really want to do and that's cook pizzas as well. It has 3 racks in that warming oven box.

About 14 square feet on bottom rack. I'd guess you could fit 1 hog on there, Maybe 2. If I got the "twins" I could easily do 2.



But that bad boy is about $9k. I may work my way up to that. I'm hoping in a year or 2 the first one I posted will be mine.
