Tigers - Twins one game playoff

Post by War Wagon »

Bottom of the 10th, tied again at 5-5.

What an intense game. It doesn't get much better than this.

It's on TBS. If you're not watching it, you should be.

Going to the 11th now, Twinks just had a runner thrown out at home trying to tag on a sac fly.

The throw was offline thus causing Mauer to have to dive, but it beat him home by 15 feet.

Umpiring 101: If the throw beats the runner, you're fucking out, doesn't even matter if they actually make the tag.

But he made the tag.

Had the runner properly tagged he would have scored... But Wags is right.. throw beat the runner... more often than not, the ump will call you out.

Bitchass Inge trying to get a call because the ball grazed his jersey... that's hanging out as far as Paul's gut.

Didn't work.

No dog in this hunt, but I like Joe Mauer.

Go Twinkies!

Well, he should've gotten it. Tigers got screwed. Not that it was an easy call to make, but still.

That's your homerism speaking, most likely.

Who wants to see the go ahead run score in a game like this because of the ball grazing a players jersey that's pillowing out 15 inches?

In a game like this, you have to pitch inside and back them off the plate.

Rack the home plate ump for making the non-call.

Selective enforcement of rules is weak. A team shouldn't get fucked over because it interferes with your enjoyment of a game. That being said, I doubt it was a selective thing, moreso inconclusive to the ump.

No, the ump concluded that Inge was a pussy.

Hell, he figured that out when he walked out on the field with that baggy jersey.

Cunt didn't even try to get out the way, other than swinging his baggy paunch in the way of an inside pitch in a crucial situation

Selective enforcement my ass, you're not going to pursue this, are you?

You better get the fuck out my face, just as Jim Leyland had the good sense to do with the ump.

Right, keep telling yourself that.

And then when you inevitably get your own balls caught in your double jointed mouth, ask yourself who the tard is.

Or just look in the mirror.

Didn't know this game would get its own thread...

Coming correct after the fact...props to the Twins. I'm less pissed about the Tigers losing this game than I am for them blowing the division lead down the stretch. This kind of effort could've made them a dangerous team against the Yankees but I wish it would've come out of them in the final weekend against Chicago when all they needed was one more win.

Porcello was marvelous through 6 but this has been Leyland's thing to pull him when he starts to show weakness in the later innings. For those middle innings, he had some of his best stuff of the entire season. I'm really excited about him going into next year. Ordonez was a monster in September and he came up with another huge hit in a big game. He earned his way back on the team for next year but he's still massively overpaid. The decision to keep Rodney in for a third full inning was a head-scratcher considering Leyland had other middle relievers he could've turned to and as they mentioned in the broadcast, this was Verlander's day to throw a side session so they could've thrown him in for an inning since he was already not going to start Game 1 anyway.

Hard to tell if the Twins are either going to be out of gas going against the Yanks and they'll just get outslugged by their complete lineup or if they ride the wave of emotion they've had for the last few weeks. The Tigers gave away the lead but the Twins also had to play great down the stretch just to force a tie after 162. Things seemed to be going fine until the calendar flipped to October...the Tigers had the 3 game lead but then finished 1-4 while the Twins ripped off 5 straight wins and won 16 of their last 20 games. The Tigers were decent in September...16-12...but the Twins just got hot at the right time.
