What conference has the hardest games to pick?

Post by MgoBlue-LightSpecial »

This is in terms of the Pick'Em game.

For me it's hands down the ACC. You got a couple of good teams at the top (Va Tech and Miami), a whole bunch of middling teams, and then the bottom feeders, who, except for Duke, are competitive enough to beat anybody else in the conference it seems on any given day. Sup UVA? Maryland?

For example:

FSU -2.5 vs Ga Tech
NC State -14.5 vs Duke
Virginia -6.5 vs Indiana
Va Tech -13.5 vs BC
Wake Forest -11.5 vs Maryland

Stumped over here, boss. I got no clue on this mess of games. I could go either way on most if not all of them. A pissed off Florida St -2.5 at home against a Ga Tech team with a struggling defense seems like the safest bet there, but fuck it - who knows?

You called it. It's the ACC by a mile. They're all schizo. Last year, UVA was begging for money as a slight favorite at Duke and lost by 28. The following week they were a double-digit dog at home to Maryland and won by 31. Then Maryland is a touchdown dog at home to Wake Forest the following weekend and wins by 26.

More of the same this year. FSU is the poster child. Maryland comes in with one win, barely, over James Madison, and beats 13 pt favorite Clemson.

It seems like every Wake game is decided by a FG, so I'd take Maryland in your list, but they've burned me so many times, there's no way I'd actually do it.

There aren't two more schizo teams out there from the same conference than Clemson and FSU, so yeah, I'd go with the ACC too. Plus, fuck, you've always got Virginia and Maryland jumping up out of nowhere to beat someone they shouldn't, immediately after they'd just lost to someone truly horrible.

N. Carolina and N. C. State are no picnic to predict either.

For all of that, I've been mostly getting killed by my SEC picks. (Mainly because I've just decided to avoid picking ACC games.) Every time someone goes on the road as a big favorite in the SEC, I get it wrong. Either I pick 'em, and they fall flat on their face, or I do the 'smart thing' and take the home team getting a buttload of points, and they go on to lose by 87.

For whatever reason, I think I've picked more Big 10 games than any other.

my pick'em results are abysmal and for some reason i think i can pick the ACC and they screw me every time. especially VT, BC and Carolina.

the amazing thing is i almost never see ACC games and still continue to pick em.

The SEC, I think.

You never know which SEC teams are going to show up -- the high-flying athletic ones, or the grind-it-out ball control ones. Seems to vary from week to week.

With the occasionally large spreads, it makes it tough when one gets 13.5 on the road.

Like LSU/Florida this week -- LSU gets quite a few points at home... is their slow, strong-defense/no-offense going to keep it close enough to cover? Will the strong D win it outright?

Heck if I know.

Another vote here for the ACC. I got absolutely killed with ACC games on the Pick'Em last week. I did win with Georgia Tech, but that was an OOC game.

Another vote for the ACC. ^Gotta agree with you, Sam. I stay away from Clemson like the plague. Never know what those fukkers are gonna do. NC State, Maryland, Boston College? I never have any kind of gauge with those teams either.

For obvious reasons, I tend to stick with the Big Ten only because I've convinced myself that I know what the hell's going on over there. But I don't. And in all honesty, most of us on here don't and the proof is in the picks. My weekly submittals almost always suck huge donkey ballz.

I've always had the hardest time picking Big 10 games. Not sure why, but over the years, I think the Big 10 has done more damage to my pick 'em fortunes than any other conference.
