Texas? If Texas loses the RRS then maybe, but who are they going to play over those final six weeks that would allow them to leapfrog from something like #7 - which is where they'll fall if they lose - all the way to #2, merely by Bama or Florida losing a close one to the other?
If Cincy loses, forget it, they're done. Same with Iowa or Kansas. Obviously no one loss mid-majors will even have a prayer.
In the near future Ohio St will definitely not get in, not over an SEC team with an equal or superior record/resume.
Penn St? With their anemic schedule, and lack of quality wins?
Va Tech? Va Tech's going to win the measly ACC and get in over the team which beat them - or Florida?
Highly doubt it.
Oregon? Hmmm. Maybe. With a dominating win over USC...maybe. Not likely though. Bama vs Oregon for all the marbles, or Bama vs Florida? Pretty sure they'd go with Bama vs Florida.
Nope, we both know there's only one possible one loss team with enough media clout and current "good will" BCS cache to have a solid chance at sneaking in under the scenario I'm describing, and that would be USC. They're the only team which would have all the elements in place necessary to leapfrog the loser of that hypothetical SEC CCG.
-Very early season loss
-Conference champion
-High ranking
-Famous laundry and "helmetocity"
-Their loss didn't come at the hands of any of the key BCS players
-The best resume of any of the key BCS players, with the most big wins, all of which were true road wins
-The desire of much of the nation and certainly much of the media to finally see a USC-SEC title game
Yeah, pretty much, USC would be the only one loss team with a decent shot of getting in over the loser in that hypothetical SEC CCG scenario.
Hey, I don't want to see a Bama-Florida rematch either. I'm just looking at the recent history of the BCS, including their wild love affair with the SEC. It would take a program of equal or superior name recognition to break that thing up, and the only teams with that sort of name recognition are USC, ND, Michigan, OSU, OU, Nebraska and Texas. Of those teams you can already throw out Michigan, OSU, OU and Nebraska.
Shit. Okay, Jesus, maybe ND would have a shot too!
