one of the great things about whole foods for me is the dry bulk section
they have various legumes and grains there that you cannot find at most stores
for instance, yellow peas.
simple soup, and it kicks ASS:
couple strips of bacon AND/OR a ham hock
2 cups of yellow peas
2 large carrots
salt & pepper
i large yellow onion
1/8 tsp ground coriander
2 sprigs fresh thyme
bay leaf
water
1 tsp paprika
Olive Oil
for those of you that make soup, the directions should be obvious but I'll give a condensed version:
brown bacon or ham hock (or omit for health reasons)with oil and onion, add garlic, add everything else, bring to a boil, simmer until peas have soaked up liquid, add more water, simmer some more, maybe 30 minutes
remove bay leaf and thyme stalks and ham hock, if using, puree with in blender or with a hand mixer
add crumbled bacon on top
fucking A
RACK ME
i just made a KICK ASS soup

I'm making me a chicken,potato & sweetcorn soup today
I've currently got a stockpot bubbling away on the stove with a kilo of chicken thighs half an onion a couple of bay leaves, ground sea salt, frsh gound black pepper & some garlic spice mix
I'm gonna keep it simmering for another couple of hours then srain it through a fine sive into a lage stainles steel bowl & let cool skim off the fat & turn it into a base for my soup
I've got some fresh sweetcorn on the cob which I'll blanch then shave off the Kernels for the soup
I'll throw in some diced potato, diced onion, fresh lemon thyme the meat from the chicken thighs & also some breast fillet I had in the freezer
I'm kinda making it up as I go along
In the Bread machine I've got a loaf of light rye sourdough with Carraway seeds, poppy seeds & sunflour seeds baking away so it's all looking pretty good at the moment
