PET Texas vs Mizzou
So my wife and I head off to KC and Stl for a long birthday weekend. I ferried a plane to Iowa late on Friday night / early Sat morning, then caught a ride to STL where my wife flew in early Sat. We did the tourist thing in STL til about 4 then drove to Columbia for the game. Then after the game it was back to STL for another day of tourist stuff before fighting the weather home today. We left Stl at 6:30 am and got back into IAH after 2:00. The 1.5 hour flight became a 7+ hour ordeal. It included three missed approaches to IAH due to weather and a divert to Lake Charles for fuel and to wait out the severe weather. I have to say that I have never been more afraid on a plane in my life. Twice we lost over 500 ft in just a few seconds. The two men in the row in front of us were holding hands and they didn't know each other before the flight.
Enjoyed most of the people save for some of the drunks at the game. Yelling curses at us was a little over the top. Your RICE smack is hardly unique Mizzou student, in fact it made me change to Texas gear. Learned some Mizzou cheers, including the announcer saying another first down M I Z. and the crowd responding Z O U. Was behind the endzone for the blocked punt and about 15 yards away from the late hit on McCoy in the 2nd half. One of the most violent hits I have ever seen and rightfully drew a flag. Only intent on that was to hurt Colt and props to Mizzou coaches for pulling the kids and cursing him out. Also enjoyed toasted Ravioli, lots of beer, slow speed limits on I-70 (55 really?), and idiot Colts fans at our hotel. STL thanks, we will be back.

Yes, I am in Texas gear. I still root for Texas, OU, others. But the crap I was getting from Mizzou fan over the RICE gear was over the top. Plus we were guests of Texas so had to show respect. Thanks also to Bill the SW pilot who took the photo who flew the charter for the cheerleaders, band, and other staff. Yes, Texas takes multiple charters to each game.
Helmets waiting for Lisa's segment.

Could it be .m2Blue's place?
Just in case you didn't believe the view, this one from the bed.

Nice PET. STL is a shithole though. Props to you for attempting to prop STL.

I was wondering if you had made the trip, Lefty. Guess you never made the KC leg.

Awesome PET, Lefty.
One of my close friend's uncle was a VP fr AB up in St. Louis. We got an extended, private tour of the brewery when I was about 15. It was bad ass I must say.
R-Jack's wife looks good in that one pic.

I've been to STL and Detroit and do not know which is worse. I do know they are the worst two places I've been to in my life. And I've been to Pattaya City, Thailand. Pattaya ain't got nothing on Detroit or STL.

Cleveland and Detroit are far worse than St. Louis. At least the outer limits of St. Louis are easy on the eyes.

The burbs of Detroit are nice too. Most burbs are nice. When the nicest place downtown is a port-a-potty you suck. STL is just that.

Yes, yes... and I've been to Taipei and Hsinschu, Taiwan.... and they've got nothing on Beaumont, Tx.
Last time I was in St. Loser, I crossed over the bridge into East St. Louis, Illinois to maybe check out this casino over there... holy fuck, that was scarier than driving over the Lewis and Clark viaduct into Kansas City, Kansas.

East St. Louis is pure shit and filth; I give you that.
Houston's northeast section is a complete shithole as well.
Go up 59 north and between downtown and the beltway is worse than pond scum.

Agreed. I work in Beaumont at a chemical plant and it's a fucking wasteland. Not one area in Beaumont is worth stopping in. I make sure I fill up before leaving my area so can drive straight to work. Beaumont is pure shit.

Bwa? Casino Queen? High roller I see.
Comparing Beaumont to St Louis is like comparing Tulsa to Miami. Try harder taking up for your red-headed step child.

Spent an entire week there for one of my daughters softball tourneys... I can't tell you how glad I was when finally getting to drive north out of that bitch. Made the whole trip back to KC in about 11 hours, pedal to the metal.Go Coogs' wrote:I work in Beaumont at a chemical plant and it's a fucking wasteland. Just recently read they have a major ocean port in Beaumont?
Yeah, seems some huge ass crane from the Netherlands arrived and is coming up the rivers to erect this new bridge over the mighty Mo. here that I'll drive on. So at least Beaumont has something going for it, which is nice.
Re: PET Texas vs Mizzou
One of the largest refineries in the nation is next door to our plant. The port is huge.

Re: PET Texas vs Mizzou
eh, depends on what you mean by nice. if you mean white people, then yes, the nicest place on earth, otherwise, the industrial burbs lining the perimeter of detroit stack up favorably against any shite place you can name. personal bias, of course. i'm a detroit ball-sucking homer with regards to who has it worse.IndyFrisco wrote: The burbs of Detroit are nice too.
detroit's actually a pretty interesting place to drive through from a historical standpoint. the lack of redevelopment means it's pretty easy to imagine what it was like in its heyday. i've been through parts of st. louis that were similar.

Which is what my point was.M Club wrote:i've been through parts of st. louis that were similar.
My bro-in-law is from Detroit burbs. Been to his parent's place and it is a nice area. As I was saying, all metro areas have nice burbs. Some nicer than others for sure. I've seen the nice areas of the STL burbs and Detroit. I was talking about the city. Neither has anything worth a damn.

are pretty much like the burbs of any midwestern American city during the industrial revolution... lotsa old mfg. facilities and warehouses that were around when the Model-T first rolled off the assembly line... and still stand today.M Club wrote:the industrial burbs lining the perimeter of detroit...
These places don't make a city a shithole, they give it character.
Lotsa' good men raised their families by the sweat of their brow in those dark places.
Re: PET Texas vs Mizzou
hmm, i don't know if we're on the same page. not arguing, obviously. i meant it's easy to see why the city was once great. i can't speak authoritatively about st. louis, but you can drive down michigan avenue and still see outlines of the old signs businesses had on their facades. it's easy to imagine - a few trees here, a few less boards there - how the area was once a safe, popular place, trendy or something.IndyFrisco wrote:Which is what my point was.M Club wrote:i've been through parts of st. louis that were similar.

obviously, "worth a damn" depends on the context. it's definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. i wouldn't blow my holiday budget flying there.

after years of disrepair, they character they give the city is "shithole." i apologize for the confusion this must have caused you.War Wagon wrote:are pretty much like the burbs of any midwestern American city during the industrial revolution... lotsa old mfg. facilities and warehouses that were around when the Model-T first rolled off the assembly line... and still stand today.M Club wrote:the industrial burbs lining the perimeter of detroit...

i never mentioned the salt-of-the earth types you brought up, probably because that's a euphemism used for white trash. good for them: they raised their sons to slave away in the same factories that were eventually shuttered years ago, leading to their cities becoming shitholes.

No apology necessary.
I know where you come from and you don't want to go into those details.
Or do you?
Let's.
You're the guy who pm'd when I said my daughter was going into the Peace Corp after college, encouraging that effort.
And then, some time later, when I smacked your ass for being a liberal douchebag, you pm'd back saying you hoped she got raped and murdered by nogs on that Peace Corp mission.
That about sums it up.
Stick to gumming Van with your toothless smack. You're a perfect pair. All hat and no cattle.
Re: PET Texas vs Mizzou
i'm pretty sure you're idea of "smacking [my] ass for being a liberal douchebag" was to have eaten another donut. the pm you meant was this:
i'll stick to the toothless smack; you stick to all that constitutional history you're so good at. i suppose the founding fathers' intended for you to be such a clueless bitch, right?
i'm pretty sure i posted the rape part publicly. any other confusion you need for me to clear up, liar?War Wagon wrote:She said she's joining the Peace Corp, but where she's going to go, I have no idea. She's got two more full years of school first, so maybe she'll change her mind. Not likely with her, though. Girl makes up her mind to do something, she does it.
Thanks for the encouraging words.
