Yes, that was where Bri schooled me on PSU's obscure "you are forgiven" reference that I totally didn't get.... some time ago.
I get it now.

Re: I need a Who fix
Dude is a child molester because he looked at something on the web?
Wow.
Sorry, Dins.
Unless you've got some more damning evidence of him being a pedo, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on this.
And I'll continue to dig The Who.

Re: I need a Who fix
just pics of Dinsdale and his mom. hmm nice beards both of them.
Re: I need a Who fix
Because you dig his music, he gets the benefit of the doubt, after fully admitting to signing up for a kiddyporn website?
Would you give your babysitter the same benefit of the doubt?
Does Gary Glitter not get a pass because his music sucks?
What an immoral POS you are.

Jump to conclusions much?
Read the article. He said it was for a research project and that he told his lawyer to alert the authorities.
Of course that may be bullshit but I like I said, I prefer to give him the benefit of the doubt.
In no way do I condone child abuse.
Unless you've got some more solid evidence than this one, perhaps isolated incident, I'll continue to dig The Who's musical genius.
Was he tried and convicted of any crime?

Re: I need a Who fix
That would be a "No".
Re: I need a Who fix
"No, officer -- I'm just mapping out all of the bank security cameras and guards because I'm doing research, so as to prevent other people from robbing the bank. What... my lawyers haven't called you yet?"
I was just doing research on what the insides of Ron and Nicole's domes looked like.
Sin,
Orenthal
I was just doing research on those retarded peoples' brains.
Sin,
Hitler
Wait, I guess that one is actually true.

Re: I need a Who fix
When he accessed the site, he didn't download anything - there was no indication of what was on the site when he joined. He notified the police after joining and turned over his computers for verification.
The police backed his position up 100%, they said it was formality that they had to register him.
btw, that police operation was closed down - over a thousand innocent people wound up getting charged (stolen credit card numbers) and labeled pervs (someone from massive attack aswell?)
He might be an arrogant prick and a bit weird but he's not a perv. You nanny state, big government liberals need to get the fuck out of people's bedrooms and mind your business

Re: I need a Who fix
I dunno' Phibes, he still might be a perv... just not for what got Dins witch hunting panties all wadded up over.
There's more than one way to be a pervert, of which I'm sure our uptight, hypocritical U & L'er has discovered at least 99 different versions.
All legal, of course.

Wanna link up that quote?
Doesn't really jibe with the whole "I told my lawyers to call the police because I was doing research on kiddyporn," now does it?
Who's lying -- you, or Pedo Pete?

Re: I need a Who fix
I could care less. If I start deciding who I listen to based on their morals, then just about every band of the late 60s and 70s would not pass muster. Hello? Lori Maddox anybody?

Re: I need a Who fix
Well here's a decent sum up:
I don't buy the 'I was researching a book' story either, but when you read up on how he was set up - I'll wager he threw something out on the fly that would sound plausible.
Christ, if everyone went to jail for that - the only inhabitants of the net would be toughlove and the odd dog or cat.
computer evidence used against 7,272 people in the UK accused of being paedophiles had been founded on falsehoods(see issue 130, p152). The misleading evidence, which claimed that every user of a Texas porn portal had to click on a banner advertising child porn to access illegal websites, was withdrawn last summer. "It's specifically not alleged that [the accused] would have...seen a banner saying 'Click Here Child Porn'," a British court was told.
The climb-down came too late for many; between then and now, the death toll of those who have killed themselves under pressure of the investigations in "Operation Ore" has risen from 33 to 39.
linky thingRock stars Robert del Naja of Massive Attack and legendary The Who guitarist Pete Townshend were both arrested in 2003, after the police had leaked their names to the tabloid press. Both men's names are listed on Landslide records as signed up to Keyz websites. But the police never had any evidence that the websites concerned-which are shown as "Alberto" and "Spermed" -had anything to do with children. Nothing was found on their personal computers. The investigations against Mr del Naja were dropped within a month due to insufficient evidence. But the police didn't tell Townshend that their entire evidence against him was a single entry made on Landslide on 15 May 1999 for the purchase of the Alberto website. Under pressure of the media filming of the raid, Townshend appears to have confessed to something he didn't do. He was cautioned and his name was placed on the sex offenders register. Ironically, In April 2006, the Home Office launched the child protection agency CEOP with del Naja's song, Teardrop. Head of CEOP James Gamble, the person responsible for Operation Ore, told the press "I didn't choose the music".

Re: I need a Who fix
I get dins' contempt for pedo townsend, but, as bri said, if you start filtering your musical taste by the artist's moral fiber or lack there of, you'll be listening to uhh, let's see, uhhh, fukkk. You might as well dig your ears out of the sides of your head with a rusty garden hoe.

Hey Wags - if you like early Who, you'd probably like mod band 'The Creation'. Decent high energy tune, great film - just don't tell BSmack playing guitar with violin bow is just another thing Jimmy Page ripped off

How is "you are forgiven" obscure? Don't they sing that line nigh on 50 times in the song?
