Nice pics. Every so often a hawk comes and lands on my fence and stay there for a bit. There is a pond right beyond the fence, so i am not sure what the hawk might be looking for, other than the potential snake.

Birds of prey are cool as shit. If I could come back as something other than human, a hawk or eagle would be my preference.

Once saw a hawk dive bomb (unsuccessfully) a bushy tailed rat errrr squirrel. I was rooting for the hawk all the way but the squirrel was able to find cover just in time.

Rack you jsc and your bit of karma. Now let's see if you can get some gastrointestinal karma and stay away from the shit pipe doc for awhile.

We should have a 'jsc's next surgery' pool in this dump.

We've got red tailed hawks around here. At lot of them. Go outside just about any day when the sun's out and you have about a 50% chance of seeing one or a couple circling way up overhead, or landing in a tree, on a telephone pole or wire nearby. Just about the coolest birds anywhere.

We've got kestrels too and supposedly a few golden eagles, though I'm not sure if I've actually seen one.

At the other end of the spectrum, a whole lot of hummingbirds make their home in our yard. Some evenings you can go outside and hear their high pitched chirps constantly, or just sit and watch them buzz from tree to tree. Very cool.

Oh yeah...and roadrunners.

A few years ago, I saw a Red Tail Hawk launch itself from a tree, go into a full Stuka bomber dive and pick a squirrel off a branch on the adjacent tree, right in the middle of the squirrel's lunch break. The acorn the squirrel was eating seemed to hover and spin in mid-air for a few seconds, just like in the cartoons.

Fukkin' incredible.

Last summer I saw two Turkey Vultures fly out of a neighbourhood ravine and perch themselves on top of a 5 story building.
Southern Ontario is the northern most limit of Turkey Vultures migration, so it's quite rare to see them around Toronto.
Motherfuckers had the biggest wingspan I had ever seen.

I caught a hawk trying to snatch a bird at my bird feeders. I know they have to eat--but not at my feeders. Coolest bird I've seen at them was a male Painted Bunting.

turkey vultures are pretty cool to watch. they block out the sun when they pass overhead. got some serious wing area. whenever my wife or kids see one fly by they say "ohhhh look!!!! an eagle" nahhh, just an f-buzzard. They get all disapointed. There are a few bald eagles around. Mostly near the Ct. river. More up in maine. they are beautiful. unfortunately, they're shy too, so you gotta have one serious lense to get a good shot of one.

all i get at work is a teeny little red x, but, i suspect it's the infamous, squirrel with giant sack pic. if so, i ain't aiming for the eyes. in this case, the good ole center of mass rule applies.

Jsc810 your post is probably the best one I have ever seen on this message board. There is not much to be added to it. I recommend everyone read that post once a day for the next month. And by the way birds are fabulous creatures of nature. I am especially fond of the Herron and you notice I use it in my avatar and might remember my poem about it.

what's a good herron gun? should I go with a shotgun? I dunno. you need shotguns for small quick stuff like ducks, but, I'm thinking a slow as hell herron, just standing there on one leg.....blasting him with shot really wouldn't be very sporting. think i'll jus go with a 22 rifle with a scope.

Here in Troy, MI we have a huge population for red-tail hawks. They feast on the equally huge population of rabbits in this area...well, at least for a couple more years. Then the rabbit population will decrease, the red-tail hawk population will decrease, rabbit population will rebound, hawk population will rebound, so on and so forth. It's great watching those hawks circle overhead and seeing them dip and pull-up, then dive and ~BOOM~ craziest thing you'll ever see. So one dive off of a tall street light post to nail and squirrel running across the front lawn of our building. Pretty cool!

It's called a typo.

You know I've seen a lot of messages you post where you have no regard for criminals or african americans either or gays or other people who aren't like you. You spit on criminals but leave your own messages here threatening that you yourself will be committing sexually vilent crimes. It seems like you either never got hugged as a child or else you have a mental problem which is too bad. But vilent crime is not a laughing matter. I've seen it up close and I'll leave it at that. I don't just let it pass me by when I or my family am threatened. Your local vice officer will take an interest in this thread. Don't kid yourself and think that isn't happening. You know the history.

Good evening.

Floating down the Clackamas this past summer, there were two bald eagles doing some sort of mating deal, screeching at each other. The larger one (very large), which I assume was the male, took off out of his tree and did some circling. While he was aloft, an osprey decided he was going to follow the eagle into its tree.

Bad fucking move -- the eagle did this crazy fast loop-de-loop move, came up under the osprey, and stabbed the motherfucker right in the gut with its beak. Osprey barely came to before it hit the water... took a break on the bank at that spot, and didn't see the osprey again.

Very nice little display of Nature's violence.

And a turkey vulture sighting is considered cool in some places? Fucking things are like "air weeds" around here.

Haven't seen him in a while, but there was a red tail that used to come out first thing and work the side of the freeway by me -- crazy shit to be stuck in gridlock, and have a hawn snag a mouse right next to the shoulder. Fucker was there a few years, but I haven't seen it lately, nor the one that used to sit in the neighbors tree waiting for one of the buhzillion squirrels in my backyard to make a fatal error.
