Dilution

Post by PSUFAN »

As the ball went up last night on VTech and E. Carolina, I had a sinking feeling that CFB is really losing the punch that it used to have. November should be devoted to meaningful conference play - not budgetary exercises. PSU is a bad offender in this. The AD cannot be happier as he seeks to make the spreadsheet gleam...and IMO, the quality of the experience is really beginning to suffer.

I find myself having to emerge from a sort of lethargy or apathy about this issue before I can really enjoy watching a football game. I can only imagine that the players are no different...and that is a major reason for the scabdickery we see so frequently.

I couldn't be happier this weekend as PSU faces the Buckeyes...I've got no trouble getting up for this matchup. Win or lose, I'm going to enjoy the hell out of the game - the sort of game that both fanbases look forward to unabashedly - a game taking place in front of a national audience in a stadium rocking with 109k+.

On other weeks, I'm starting to really feel the dilution. How about yinz guys?

I'd say there's a strong need to pare down D-1 ball and prohibit inter-division games. There's no reason that Michigan should be scheduling App St and Delaware St (first to avoid an embarrassing loss but secondly to prevent these payday games and padding to schedule).

yes there is. like, that one win, man. we'd be going on six weeks without one if it weren't for D1-AA.

Eh, I'm not so sure. 20 year olds don't remember the "days of yore" ... this is all they know. I don't think they put that much thought into the state of the game...they just go out there on gameday and try to blow people up. A home game in front of 100,000, or whatever, against Western Rhode Island A&M is still a much bigger deal than anything they experienced in high school. I think this scabdick stuff has more to do with talent and coaching becoming more plentiful for everybody, at least to the extent that the little guy isn't going to get blown out routinely. I don't really view that as a bad thing.

So basically you're saying that all the powerhouses should schedule each other giving no opportunity for the mid-majors to play Cinderella?

That makes sense. Just let the rich get richer, eh?

Yes. It would make for a much more compelling sport.

Knock D1 down to about sixty four teams, and limit them to only playing each other, in mandatory 6-6/home-away schedules. The entire landscape of BTPCF would improve dramatically.
