Help recovering office document

Post by Shawn Marion »

So here is the situation:

My girlfriend has been my laptop to work on a project while also working on it at the computer lab. She has been emailing it to herself and not using a disk or a USB drive. When she opens it from email, when prompted between open file and save to disk, she opens the file and then usually uses save as to save it elsewhere.

So earlier today she never used save as and was saving it in the temp file. Then she emailed herself an older version. She then opened the older version from her email to double-check it and realized her mistake.

I cannot locate any version of her project anywhere on my computer. What I think happened (with my limited computer know-how) is that the new version was replaced by the old version in the Temp file.

So the question is: Is there anyway I can recover the newer version of her project? Any suggestions?

If you restore from a day previous to the day you deleted the stuff, it should come back, right? I'm not a computer guy but you seemed desperate. Any port in a storm, right?

I figure if I use that response enough times it'll eventually be right.
