Xmas Shopping - Gift Ideas

Post by KC Scott »

I have no clue what to buy the wife. Every year she does the "Don't get me anything for Xmas" routine - yet I try and come up with something unique / special / useful etc.

Of course a few of these have ended up in our "Donations" truckload in the proceeding years.
Part of the problem is she can (and does) buy about anything she wants whenever she wants - so that makes it tough.
Last year I got her a collection of wines, some massage / spa gift certificates, and a new laptop.

The Kids are easy to buy for since they just give me endless lists....

What are you doing in the way of presents for the SO?

Gold, silver, diamonds ?? The ladies usually don't send that stuff to Goodwill.

She's got more jewlery than she'll ever wear.

Last year I even "upgraded" her wedding ring to Platinum -
I had a thread about it in CDS: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=29028&p=537221&hili ... um#p537221
(Another huge response on that one  )

She has a Rolex submariner, 1 Ct. Earings, Tahitian black Pearls, 6 ct. tw Tennis bracelet she never wears, a Gold Shipwreck coin pendent, and a whole lot of other crap I can't even remember.

But it's not a bad idea - I may surf around.
Thanks O
Katy

I went to buy one of those for MrsO and ended up with a 3-stone diamond ring.-- one of those "yesterday/today/tomorrow" things. There's a thought KC Scott.

She's really into antiques / vintage stuff, so I found a couple of Ancient coins I was going to have put into a pendant. She already has one but thought it might work again.

I was kind of just beating around the bush about it and she blurted out she'd rather have a Cameo ring, since she doesn't have one of those. She saw a cameo on a show a while back and kind of went gaga over it. The quest has begun.

I seem to have pretty good luck at the Brooks Brothers factory store. Can't go too wrong with a few fine wool sweaters. Also Tommy Hilfiger for a few polo shirts.

This year I've already bought four round trip tickets for us and the kids to spend Christmas with my step-daughter and the grandkids in NY/NJ. Also my brother lives there in the city with his wife and kids. My kids have never seen a white Christmas so I'm hoping for some snow.

That's another good idea Mikey - she loves Cashmere sweaters. Argyle in particular

So I got one of the presents - looked through about 200 rings to find this one:

Couple things I "learned" in my crash course on Cameo - You want a ring where there's no prongs covering the setting,
And you have to look through a lot before you find one where the detail of the carving is in great shape and it's a good piece of art to begin with.
