NFL Coach of the Year

I'm torn between Marvin Lewis and one other. If it were most improved and overcoming adversity, it would be Marvin. He is a close second choice for me.

But altough I doubt he will get it my first choice for many reasons including almost perfection the last 11 games...............

Norv merits strong consideration.

I'd vote for Sean Payton.

SD won their division last season.
N.O. finished last last season.

Granted both were 8-8 last year and both went 13-3 this year.

Marvin Lewis will get some love and I may have chosen him if Cincy had played better in the 2nd half of the season.

I don't know who should be COTY, but I'll name some honorable mentions:



1. Tom Cable: the team showed flashes of competence at times. Considering the circumstances, that's a hella good job.

2. John Harbaugh: playoffs every year of his tenure...

3. Rex Ryan: not bad.

Norv looks good now, but if the Chargers get the boot early that won't be the case, as it will be for any of the candidates, or should be IMO.

I think voting is done PRIOR to the start of the playoffs. I would have voted for Marvin Lewis. The turnaround of the Bengals is pretty remarkable when you consider how bad they've been the past few years.

"fallen apart" is a little extreme. They had already clinched their division and home field advantage before dropping a few meaningless games. I think the Saints get their shit together and win the NFC. If anything, those losses might have provided extra motivation to go out and kick some ass since people are now starting to doubt them.

I do think it's nice for Norv to be recognized for it. It doesn't really mean a whole lot. What means more is that the team seems to be playing for him and they are on the same page. For all the flack Norv has taken I just find it amusing that he's even getting a coach of the year. Every time he talks I still think he sounds a bit retarded.

I don't think they clinched any kind of home field advantage until the Vikes lost to Chicago on monday night. So losses to the Boys and Bucs were games they needed to win and didn't. Keep in mind I said the Bucs.

Touche on the technicalities. Nevertheless I just don't see how a team that a) won its division and b) clinched home field advantage has "fallen apart." How would you characterize the playoff teams that accomplished neither of those things? I guess the benefit of winning an assload of games was the luxury of being able to drop a few at the end, and still wrap everything up. Bottom line is they took care of business. But we'll see.

Teams have figured out the Saints. That part is obvious. If Philly is fortunate to get by the Boys, I expect them to blitz well and follow the patterns of the Boys and Bucs (the Panthers game doesn't count). Pay no attention to last weeks game jimbo, you and I both know the Eagles didn't show crap in that defensive scheme. But we'll see.
