Sleep easy P-Rox

Post by DallasFanatic »

Dallas vs. Minnesota this week and here is a lil homerism at its finest as I give my opinion on what the Boys need to do to get to the NFC Championship game.

In order for Dallas to be successful offensively they must run the ball effectively. Heavy doses of Barber, Jones and Choice in various formations to confuse the Vikes front seven is critical to set up short down and distances for Romo early. Thats no easy task against those defensive tackles, but the O-Line is just playing nasty right now. If they can open up some holes for the running game and provide the time so Romo can find a rhythm early, much like Cuntler, he can give that Vikes secondary fits trying to cover Austin, Williams, Crayton and Witten. It has to be a balanced attack, but if Dallas gets behind early and Romo has to sling it? Game over after his first pick.

On the defensive side of the ball, Dallas has to keep doing what its been doing these past 5 weeks. They've faced some pretty potent offenses during this period, including the Chargers, Saints and Philly twice. All of those offenses rank in the top five in scoring, and Dallas has done a great job in holding them in check. Two key factors for this success has been the emergence of Jenkins on the corner and Spencer on the "other" edge. Both have stepped up tremendously, and I see no reason why this unit can't do the same against Minnesota. Dallas has yet to allow a 100 yard rusher this season, and will face as big challenge in keeping that streak in tact with AP....errrrrrr AD (cool Dins?). Favre isn't a mobile QB, and will feel the pressure from Ware and Spencer, which in years past, has translated to interceptions. Jenkins, Newman and Scandrick will all be waiting with open arms if Favre wants to play Santa Claus with the football

On Special Teams, and I know some people laugh like this facet of the game isn't all that, Buehler has to boom some kicks deep into the endzone. He's had pretty good success doing so, and that will be key to limiting Harvin's ability to beat you with a big play. McBriar has been nothing short of all-pro with booming high punts that give his coverage team and excellent chance of making a quick tackle or the player just fair-catching it. I think everyone is on board with making offenses try and beat this defense rather than giving up a big punt or kickoff return.

I also like the keep in mind that Favre has never beaten a Cowboys team in the playoffs, or in any stadium outside of Lambeau, so I will cross my fingers and hope that trend continues.

Cowboys 24
Vikes 20

Nice take... don't see too much in-depth analysis around here.

As a non fan, I'll be rooting for both Favre and Dallas to lose. Somehow. Looking forward to this game more than any other on this weekend's slate.

Rack. May he never be forgotten.

For anyone who didn't know of Purple-Rox...

The guy was a poet, and as passionate a Vikings fan as any NFL fan of any team, ever.

We used to trade light hearted barbs at TNW. He went awol for a week or so during football season. Many of us were like wtf?

I believe it was his son who retrieved his account info... he knew how fond Dad was of the TNW NFL forum... and posted a thread informing us that he had died of a heart attack while ice-fishing.

I will raise a glass in his honor during this game.

Go Vikes!

If Peterson gets off, the Vikes will likely win this game.

It's been 8 weeks since his last 100 yd game.
Interesting.

In 3 of his last 5 games he has gained - 19, 35 and 54 yds.
Also interesting.

Dallas' D has really been impressive and I'm thinking A.P. will not dominate this game to the degree the Vikes need in order for them to win this game.

The 'Boy defense will get after him, and I can see Favre chucking up a couple/few INTs in the 2nd half of this one as he tries to make things happen through the air.

I suspect Dalls wins this game.

Call it 21-17
