50th anniversary of Giant Steps this last week
heard a weak tribute on BBC radio. saw McCoy Tyner in the early 90's in Denver and he plays a couple tunes and says "this is a song by Mr. John Coltrane" and plays Mr. PC note for note Coltrane's part including the solo--and had a killer bass player play the Paul Chambers part. it was far far out. no one said anything in the crowd. silence after.
