While the focus on USC was about the impending NCAA ruling before Carroll decided to high tail it and bolt to the NFL, the media spotlight is firmly on Troy with this hire. Mike Garrett has made comments where he expects to come out of the investigation "unscathed". Then, there is this quote about hiring Lane Kiffin:
"We're talking about secondary infractions and secondary infractions aren't major. Everybody makes secondary violations. We looked at it closely and we got the answers that we wanted."
So a school staring down the barrel of possible NCAA sanctions, hire a coach who they readily admit had secondary violations while at his previous job and brushed it off as "everyone does it".
They are daring the NCAA to take action. They are almost forcing the NCAA's hand to act harshly because if the NCAA comes out and finds no violations, there will be a free for all in college football and every school will have the biggest gun attorney on retainer ready to fight the NCAA if their school was found with violations and not USC.

Killian makes a good point. Every Pac 10 school HAS to view any tolerance by the NCAA to SuC's violations as confirmation that a particular (infraction) is no longer deemed so....
...and that ANY school that DOESN'T exercise their right to the same rules is thereby being negligent to the programs they represent....

The $35 mil along with control of the organization clearly had nothing to do with it.

Obviously, I don't know if this is true or not, but a radio host just said that he had a conversation with a well connected USC booster that told him the following.
USC offered both the Pac-10 and the NCAA a penalty consisting of a loss of six scholarships next year and the year after along with no bowl game next year. Both entities said NO to that proposal.
I'm not sure if I believe it, simply beacuse I would be suprised if they did much worse than that to them. But, if the report is true, that's got to be very bad news for USC.

Re: USC has backed the NCAA into a corner
That's a small part of it. He makes millions already at USC, but the money is more guaranteed there. The odds of him ever making the amount of money with the Seahawks as would have had he stayed at USC is very slim. NFL coaches get fired after 2 years. He would have been making $3 million for the next 10 years at USC, if not more.Van wrote:The $35 mil along with control of the organization clearly had nothing to do with it.
He left because of what he feared. He could have had better NFL jobs. This is a solid job and he does have control, but he isn't leaving because of that. He's leaving because he got caught and thought he would get away with it. And he did get away with it............until now.
USC is the scum of college football. They're no better than any SEC school. In fact, they're worse. Free houses? That's fucked up shit. Most schools just give out free cell phones and shit. How much shit has Petey errrrrrrrrrr non-boosters (right, sure) gotten away with? They've been caught committing major violations and god knows how much crap they'll never get caught doing.
And then to go hire a guy that's as crooked as they come...............how fucking classless of an athletic department must you have to do that? You have to be the most fucking ignorant, arrogant, and retarded fuck to hire a weasel like Kiffin with major NCAA violations looming. You go out and fucking hire the god damn Pope if you're SC. Everyone knows the NCAA doesn't like coaches that have committed NCAA violations. If they go from one program to another, that coach is a marked man and it fucks over the new school he's headed to. Just ask Kelvin Sampson, Jerry Tarkanian, Rick Nueheisel, Jim Harrick, etc........ once you're caught, the NCAA will fucking hound you until they finally run your ass out of coaching. Think Indiana regrets hiring Kelvin Sampson? Fuck yes they do. Dude set the program back 5 years. He didn't do anything worse than what Kiffin did at Tennessee. The thing is had Kelvin come to IU free of any violations, they never would have hounded him while he was with the Hoosiers and he would have been free to do whatever. But since he already pissed the NCAA off at a lesser program..........the NCAA wanted to get his ass outta there.
The arrogance of USC is expected. But this is just dumb. Not only has this guy done absolutely nothing whatsoever to earn this gig, but it's ridiculous for USC to hire someone with his character on the brink of potential program killing violations. Why give the NCAA more reason to get serious about dropping the hammer on the program?
One thing I've always said is USC fan does not deserve this program. This is BY FAR the WORST fan base in college football. They will jump off the bandwagon so god damn fast. They're not loyal, they're not fun to hang out with, and they only show up when it's "the cool thing to do". I've never seen a lamer fan base than this. So to see this program hit rock bottom would be EXACTLY what they deserve.
Sorry Trojan fan (all 8 of you), but EVERYTHING I said above is 100% true. You may win a lot more than my favorite team. But when my team wins we do it with class and integrity. USC has scoreboard on NOBODY. Rack all the programs that do things the right way!
