I'd also like to see the Jets knock off the Colts (just for the Karma of them having allowed them to back into the playoffs to begin with) but I don't see that happening.

Sorry Jsc, but the Vikes are too tough. Brees will be running for his life, just like Romo did. Well maybe not quite that bad, but bad enough.
And I really don't see the 'aints shutting down Farve or AP.
I'll call it 23-14.
Congrats on the nice run, though.

You can take chemistry and attitude and see if it will buy you a cup of coffee.
Good luck though.
I'm not hating, just being an objective and knowledgable (maybe) NFL observer.
I don't even know what the spread is, but my gut tells me the 'aints get rolled.
If wrong, henceforth I will never refer to the NFL franchise in New Orleans as the 'aints again.

Tony Romo is so much better and creating plays and escaping pressure than Brees. It's not even close. The Cowboys kicked the Saints in the balls in the Superdome so what do you think Minnesota will do? That game won't even be close. Both the Vikings and Cowboys are more complete teams than New Orleans.Diogenes wrote:No comparison. Unlike Homo, Brees can throw on the run. I'm a Jared Allen fan, so I'll probably pull for the Vikes to win, but that's a helluva place to play in and the 12th man will be in full effect I'm sure. Should be a great game to watch either way.

Man, Deuce McAllistair got fat!
What a drag for Favre. His last pass as a Packer...a pick to basically kill his team. His last pass of this season - and he had a great season - a truly stupid pick to basically kill his team. If he simply tucks it and runs, the Vikings likely win in regulation.
Oh, and the NFL's O.T. still sucks, hard. Goddammit, let both teams have the ball at least once.

No props at all to the Saints. The confirmed for the world tonight what a fraudulant team that they are. Has there ever been a more hollow feeling to a conference championship? Not only were the completely dominated in time of possession, but they got some fluky ass fumbles. THEN, in overtime, the only way they were able to move the ball was by bullshit penalties, a phantom reception at the end, and even that questionable fourth and one spot. These officials were chugging Saint cock in overtime and HANDING them every possible play imaginable. There was a wierdass feel in that OT period, especially considering how much the Vikings defense was destroying the Saints. Something was not on the level in that game. It was a complete fraud win. And fuck the "Brees deserves it" comment. He doesn't deserve shit. He's been playing the "WE deserve it" card all year and every time I see him I want to kick his ass. At what point do you actually put any stock into scoreboard? You know, the whole reason they play the game? It seems you concern yourself with every tedious and insignificant boxscore stat possible except for one: wins. The only reason you keep calling the Saints a "fraud" is because they keep winning and making you look like a goddamn fool. As for the fumbles? Turnovers? It's all part of the game you dunce, and why predicting games is difficult. If everything played out the way it "should," logically and on paper, then sportsbooks wouldn't be making money hand over fist off dipshits like you. In every game played there are intangibles and immeasurables that factor into the outcome. And the fact you give a blind eye to those things is one reason you will always suck more than the average bear at predictions. Not only were the completely dominated in time of possession, blah blah blah
Re: please don't let it end
The refs got every one of those replays correct. The review on Brees' fumble recovery and carry which left him short of the first down was correct. The review of the fourth and one dive over the pile was correct. The review on that bobbled catch was correct. The review on Reggie's TD was correct.
The replay officials got every one of 'em right.
Also correct was the fact that the Saints were a lock to win, the second YAFJ tabbed the Vikes to win in a blowout.

you're bringing up other random reviews that I didn't even mention. of course the TD call was correct, and of course the fumble recovery that was short was called correct. You conveniently failed to mention the crucial bullshit flag for interference on an uncatchable pass that sailed about 12 feet over dipshit's head. That was the one where I started to go "yeah, this game is greased." Then, when what's-his-face bobbled that ball and trapped it on the ground, I said, "Watch them give him the catch. This is some charity shit right here."
Everyone in the room was in shock when they said the play stands, and I just said , "told you...it's fixed." Anyone with a grain of sense watching that OT had to have been thinking the same thing on that final drive. So no props to getting to the Super Bowl. This wasn't a situation where "we didn't play our best game, it was ugly, but we took advantage of some mistakes" It was a complete fraud win.

Let's talk about 1st and 10 from the NO 33 with 1:06 left to play. Coming out of NO's calling their final TO.
Run the ball up the middle once. Run the ball up the middle twice.
Now you have 3rd and 10 from the NO 33 with 19 seconds left.
That's it? Sure, Favre should have not have thrown that last ball. Sure, he could have tucked and run and called his last TO.
However... I think Brad Childress totally choked this game away by playing it so fucking close to the vest instead of trying to advance the ball. It seemed like he was fine with attempting a 50 yard FG with no time left and then going to OT if need be. Just awful play calling. You have 1:06 left, 2 TO's in your pocket, the Saints are on their heels and you call 2 fucking runs up the gut? That's your plan?
Pathetic.

The stat I heard this morning was that it was the first OT playoff game where the team that won the toss scored on their first possession.
Re: please don't let it end
Why? Because this was one of those O.T.'s where the loser of the coin toss never saw the ball again. That should never happen. The college O.T. needs the starting point to be moved back to the forty, or even midfield, but it still is so much better than the NFL's O.T., which often as not sees games ending with an anticlimactic slow bleed rather than with any drama. In the NFL, simply throwing one bomb and getting the P.I. call before running three plays between the hashes leads to the game winning chip shot FG, with the Drew Brees/Tom Brady/Bretty Favre/etc for the other team never even getting a chance at the ball.
Horrible.

Re: please don't let it end
Before debating the OT rule, I immediately felt the Vikings had no right to win that game after that final turnover by Favre as well as the stupid penalty for too many men on the field and the pathetic play-calling. If a team is going to shoot itself in the foot in regular time, especially in the final 2 minutes of a game, than I have no sympathy if they never see the ball again in OT.Van wrote:Why? Now, as far as the OT rules go- why do you have such disdain for defense? A team fields both an offensive and a defensive team correct? And so who cares if one team stars on offense first? Statistically it hasn't mattered until yesterday and it seems like the only reason this will come up is because of a bad PI call. Your beef should be with the officiating and not the OT rules which have proven to be just fine. Want to make PI calls a possible booth review on OT only? I'm cool with that. But don't take away from the basic premise of the game in the name of "fairness" when all you're doing shitting on the defensive portion of a team. I'm fairly certain if you asked Jared Allen about the OT rules he'd say their inability to execute on defense is the reason they lost not the OT rules.
Re: please don't let it end
Why do you have such a disdain for a team's defense? The Saints' D never even had to take the field in O.T.
Here's a novel idea: Both teams should have to play offense and defense in O.T. That's how it works during regulation play, so why change it for O.T.?
The 'overtimes' of baseball, hockey and basketball require both offense and defense from both teams, as does college football, whose O.T.'s are infinitely more dramatic than the NFL's. So, why are we subjected to seeing Adrian Peterson and Brett Favre sitting on the bench throughout the entire O.T., while some nondescript kicker gets showered in glory for hitting an easy chipshot?

I'm not a fan of the OT rule, but if anyone deserved to sit helpless on the sideline, it was the Vikings.
And ask Shayne Graham or Shawn Suisham if a 40 yarder in the playoffs is a chippy.

I don't. Why are you letting a team defense off the hook for not executing. Unrack the Vikings defense for not getting off the field.Van wrote:Why do you have such a disdain for a team's defense? The Saints' D never even had to take the field in O.T.
Here's not such a novel idea, you're an idiot. In regulation the team with the most points at the end of 60 minutes wins the game. Last I checked, in OT, it was the 1st team to score and a defensive team can score points. Just thought I'd mention that. Here's a novel idea: Both teams should have to play offense and defense in O.T. That's how it works during regulation play, so why change it for O.T.?
Are you seriously trying to compare the different OTs of different sports as a means to support your shitty position? The 'overtimes' of baseball, hockey and basketball require both offense and defense from both teams, as does college football, whose O.T.'s are infinitely more dramatic than the NFL's.
-In baseball the team playing the field can't score a run to win a game. And the game is not controlled by the clock.
-In hockey a team playing defense can just as quickly be on offense. In OT, the odds of a team having full and complete control of the hockey puck without it being touched by another team and scoring a goal are extremely remote. And they have a shoot-out after a first OT which renders them second-class anyway.
-Basketball's OT isn't who scores first but who has the lead when the clock hits zero. And the NBA OT clock is only 5 minutes.
None of these examples in ANY way supports your position. In fact it makes you look even more foolish.
Because last I checked, the Vikings also have a defense with some very talented, pro-bowl players who didn't do their job. Oh and don't forget about the INT and fumbles.. they're partially the reason the VIkings aren't going to the SB in the first place. So, why are we subjected to seeing Adrian Peterson and Brett Favre sitting on the bench throughout the entire O.T., while some nondescript kicker gets showered in glory for hitting an easy chipshot?

I came away from that game thinking the best team didn't win. Certainly Minnesota's offense was more effective in the 2nd half, but their numerous turnovers were the difference. Hard to complain about overtime when you're turning the ball over continually in regulation. The Vikings had many opportunities to win that game but came up short. College overtime is a fucking joke, right out of flag football. Sudden death determines a winner (most of the time) and promotes winning in regulation (TIES SUCK). Teams won't play for overtime unless they have to, because nothing is guaranteed. Just ask the Packers and their fans.
The Saints looked a little too happy & were celebrating a lot for a team that still needs to play their best game of the season in a couple of weeks. I like the professional, workman like Colts to win the Super Bowl. It should be a good one.

Re: please don't let it end
Jim, the point is that only the NFL doesn't require both units from each team to perform in O.T. Notice also that you completely glossed over what I said about the college game's O.T. being so much better. It requires both units to play, and it leads to much more exciting finishes. There is no disputing this. None. Don't even try.

Van - There's a reason your plan sucks, it doesn't promote winning, it promotes further ties. College overtime blows, games tied at 17 end up 42-38 finals. Exciting? Why not play the whole game on a 50 yard field then? There isn't an overtime rule that will make everyone happy.

That's your opinion. I was just calling you for your shitty comparison of the NFL to other OT rules of the major sports. The college OT is exciting. No doubt about that but so is an NHL penatly shot contest but it doesn't mean it's the best way to decide a game. The college OT rule takes away kickoffs, punts and makes the whole field position game meaningless. It's actually very easy to dispute. But CF diehards will hear nothing of it.Van wrote:Jim, the point is that only the NFL doesn't require both units from each team to perform in O.T. I have a simple one... I think Van touched upon it. Give the team who lost the coin toss a shot at a game tying or winning drive.Joe in PB wrote:There isn't an overtime rule that will make everyone happy.
Team wins coin toss and then scores on that drive = game not over yet. Coin toss losing team must kick a FG (or better) to keep them from losing. If they tie it on their drive, then "sudden death" begins.

I know it's the coin flip that seems to bother a lot of people because God forbid we ask a team to play defense but another idea (since we're tossing them out) is to restrict field goals until a team is inside the 25. It doesn't eliminate field goals but keeps the pressure on the defense to make stops and makes for some potentially interesting 4th down calls by an offensive team. It keeps the idea of field position front an center, keeps all aspects of the game intact without getting too technical.ucantdoitdoggieSTyle2 wrote:I have a simple one... I think Van touched upon it. Team wins coin toss and then scores on that drive = game not over yet. Coin toss losing team must kick a FG (or better) to keep them from losing. If they tie it on their drive, then "sudden death" begins.
