At the behest of Orcinus, PSUFAN, Orcinus, and Otis get together and resolve to shut down scobode.com, thesmackbat.com, and thesmackboard.com. In the process, theoneboard.com is registered. The three older boards are locked, and redirected to theoneboard.com. The domain theoneboard.com is registered by Otis for a multiple year span. PSUFAN wonders why that was necessary, but moves on in the spirit of cooperation.
A few months later...
The hosting shits the bed. The board had been with a small canadian outfit suggested by otis...one day it snowed a lot, the board crapped out, and the owner was totally unresponsive. PSUFAN and 88 resolve to switch to a host that they had experience with - cheap, reliable, and responsive. Hosting issues are resolved for the rest of this timeline. The domain remains with Otis - despite the fact that domain registration comes free with the new host. Otis says he's got it - his contribution to the upkeep of the board.

Years roll by...
The dramas of the board ebb and flow. Throughout, Otis really isn't a frequent poster...his time spent on the board really tapers off.
Just a few short weeks ago...
Otis is back! He's posting all over the board. He's in chat. He's in Cul de Smack. He's everywhere?! What has changed?

...
Yep. Otis has started a cyber romance! The object of his affection, you see, had only a few weeks before sought refuge at T1B - refuge from the evils of Russ and his board, we're to understand. Yes, Katy has arrived...and she's freaking parked in the chat room and on the board 24-7. Well...no worries. She's not doing any harm - not to us. So...the cooing in the chat room, the personal info flowing in the "private, smack and troll free" forum all proceeds apace. Wait...they're not really dating, are they? They're cyberdating? They're...ok, this is a bit strange. But after all, it's Otis - and maybe the dude's a bit impressionable, maybe he's taken a few years of incessant smack over the years...shouldn't be a problem. Otis has apparently succeeded where Buccaneer, RadioFan, and no doubt others have failed..he has courted Katy, and she's opened her arms to the little guy, from all indications. AND - they want you to know about it, what's more.
And so...
PSUFAN gets a PM from Otis. Apparently, Otis has fucked up. It seems that the domain is about to expire, and he needs help. His paypal can't handle the issue - paypal, in his words, "takes a week to transfer funds" - so it's too late, and apparently Otis has no other means of payment. So, Otis suggests, PSUFAN needs to login to Otis's godaddy account and pay with his credit card. PSUFAN scratches his head...mayhap there are no CC cards in the Frozen North? Ahh...but Otis will "forward the money for it to you on Monday via Western Union..". For this last, Otis needs an address - said address is furnished after payment is made. So, crisis averted. PSUFAN has paid for the domain for a year. He figures that he can wait a few days before initiating a transfer to the host of his choice - after all, he's busy, he's got work and family and exercise and other pursuits; he can't spend 24-7 on the boards. Who can? Not many...but some can, yes, it is true. No reason whatever to expect perfidy where Otis is concerned, after all.
A day or two passes...
Now, PSUFAN is told by katy that he needs to transfer that domain, because Otis doesn't want any bad blood. This is interesting...there is no bad blood between PSUFAN and Otis...never has been. Seems like a matter between Otis and PSUFAN...a minor one, well in hand. Western Union is handling the transfer! Was that the hooves of their horses just now, or the garbage truck, hauling off PSUFAN's mountain of soiled diapers? But, the girlfriend maybe is just checking up. Maybe Otis needs help of this sort from his girlfriend. May his girlfriend likes to get...extra involved. After all, she's quoting the admins from their forum verbatim, here and there...and sending along frequent requests for changes in the moderators, requests for forums, this, that. Yep...maybe the girlfriend is getting a little close , spending a bit too much time on the board, speaking a bit too much for the little canuck guy. Not a surprise, he's not really the most articulate individual, after all. Words - just ain't his thing, at least not with much art or substance. His thing is...something else, perhaps...but not words. So heck...maybe the little guy is sharing the contents of the admin forum with the active online girlfriend. Maybe, he's sharing his account with her - maybe he's welcoming her in to eh admin forum for a good read. What's the difference? They are in love...the extent of which is being proved out right on the board, after all.
What could go wrong with Otis and a little love from the board, you might ask? There isn't any reason to think board-originated cyber trysts should stay under wraps with Otis...is there? Naaaahhhh...no reason.
Moving right along...
So, mvscal and Lillian Vernon are in a little dust-up. Lillian's shit trolls and shit posts are being deleted by mvscal...which is ok, not many folks seem to enjoy her anyway. She has frequently professed distaste for T1B and will probably grow bored yet again and take off yet again. Lillian Vernon's routine is not much enjoyed by the admin group...which is generally happy to turn a blind eye to the proceedings, apart from the admin who is dating her friend, it appears. He's up in short arms. Dozens of LV posts are deleted in CdS, dozens more in the NFL - which has always had a strict no-troll policy. And lo and behold, for a moment mvscal has overstepped for a moment. He has clipped a thread from Rootbeer. Now, one thread of his is deleted/trotsed...and then the admins are ready to act, and do so. But...now LV is claiming BODE, small surprise. She has machinated the demise of her assailant, she claims - but she claims this wrongly. She suffers dozens of deletions, mvscal remains...Rootbeer suffers one, and he goes - but the admins know he'll be back, hope he will be back. mvscal is generally welcomed and always racked at T1B, reasons being fairly self-evident. Nonetheless, for the low-wattage dramawhores now frequenting the board, this is bode, and any bode is good stuff.
And so...
Backtracking a good bit...the CFB peeps have always had a chat engine of one form or another, on this board, on previous ones..always a good time, always casual, easy come, easy go. Mostly the thing is worked out during CFB games, always there for a laugh and for a little light-hearted banter for those who chose. But now...now, Katy has set up shop in the motherfucker. She's in there ALL THE FUCKING TIME. AIM or whatthefuckever has been abandoned...in favor of T1B chat. But, the peeps still come in...and all is well, until katy's friend has a beef to work out with somebody. Katy lies in wait in the chat until that somebody arrives...the sends out a "smoke signal" to LV, who tears across the interHorn to get in there. Now she comes in to assail her nemesis. The nemesis? KC Scott...who has arrived for a little pleasant chat, which as previously mentioned is the general goal for the chat - and often used that way by the majority of the T1B peeps. Ah, but there is LV - furiously poking at KC Scott - scouring her spreadsheet...searching, searching, FINDING! Yeah - it appears that Lk_pk claimed, many moons ago, that she fucked Scott! Lk_pk - that stalwart of respectability, of integrity - yes, this clam, while patently false, that's the ticket! That's the vehicle - and LV starts hammering. Numerous times, LV throws this accusation at Scott. Chatting onlookers begin to get uncomfortable...they're there for a low-key, relaxing time, not this bullshit. But no - LV is PISSED and she's coming hard. So, after prodding aplenty, Scott cracks her back at last. Kiddingly and offhandedly, he remarks that he should take one of the many, many pics of LV that she has incessantly posted on the board and share it with some police department folks who might recognize her from a meth bust - LV has that gaunt, cracked out look about her features, we've all seen it, she's made good and sure of that. And...we've all seen what KC Scott posted, because lickety-split, she's has a screenshot of that line alone, and she's posted it on 55,000 other message boards, along with her accusation of Scott and lk_pk repeated for good measure.
And..all across the SC web, there is IS! The feared PERSONAL INFO BREACH! SHAME...IGNOMINY! Never mind, of course, that no personal info has been obtained, or shared, or abused. Nothing of that sort has EVER taken place at KC Scott's hands...but that breach resonates strongly among our cohorts, it is a tinny, piercing klaxon heeded by all.
Thankfully, KC Scott - and perhaps others - have saved the chat transcript in full - where the events, and exactly how they have played out, are available. Given the full context, it's hard to see the comment for anything other than it was - something offhanded, something dredged out of the man - a man who has posted on the boards without blemish in every conceivable role for 11 years - as a result of quite persistent provocation. Here's LV - whose leanings towards bitter trolling are not only universally acknowledged, but apparently archived on a website and worn like a badge of honor. Yep, here's LV - gleefully possessed of the kernel of untruth that can be festooned before the unaware and uninformed as a FULL-BLOWN THREAT AND INFOABUSE...and the game is on. Katy and LV are suddenly alive - in their element! The real-life sex that may or may not one day take place between midget Otis and Katy will utterly pale in comparison to this throaty ecstasy! Otis will get his little kit off in Katy's wizened chowder trench - presumably, if all goes well for him - and her indicators of pleasure will NEVER reach their heights of fulfillment to this degree! They have their quarry - at long last, and dammit, they're off and running.
Of course, this imbroglio is rapidly communicated to the admin group via PM - represented as a "Personal Info Threat by an Admin to a poster" with dutiful alacrity. As usual, the admin group huddles with some seriousness...personal info breaches being abhorred by the group to a man, always have been. Otis among them sounds the cry - Scott is to be spit-roasted and quick! But...well, the admin group wants to discuss it, have a look at it. They want to see exactly what went down...because apart from Otis, the admin group is generally of the mind that both sides of these dust-ups need to be explored, and they are NOT willing - as he is - to INSTANTLY accept what is relayed by Katy and LV as Gospel - not in the past, not now, not ever. But Otis's girlfriend's best friend is the aggrieved! Otis's cyber lovin' is in the balance! Otis's board persona, see, is not merely the fun he might have on the boards...it is, rather, his shot at happiness entire! Rapid action is expected, needed. Two posts in to the discussion, Otis has given up. He's heard it all, and he slinks out and back to chat into the digital arms of his paramour...and requests of an admin in the chat that he be deadmined. No, he DEMANDS this, and he wants it down right then. Chat can host many things...a full-blown cybertrollromance, a heart-felt resignation from the admin group, a discussion about a Maryland/Cal football game...chat's got what you need these days, if you're in acid-wash jeans.
The rumblings proceed - KC Scott! Scott! He must be dealt with! Katy and LV are to be appeased...they want action! Their vehemence was not heeded where mvscal or marty or others were concerned..but this time they will get satisfaction!!
Or, maybe they won't. Maybe the admin group is not spending every waking hour in chats, on boards, clacking out diatribes and clicking around sites and preparing screengrab testimonials while the children, unheeded, wail in the corner and the house arrest legbrace throbs. Maybe - just maybe, they are busy about their lives, reading to their children, working, reading a book, peopling their Earthly slivers of time...maybe, when they turn at last back to the board, they want to enjoy - unwind, take it easy, toss around a few insults, talk about sports, etc. Maybe, when there is board drama that they are asked to consider, they want to weigh the factors involved, figure out what happened. Maybe, though...none of that resonates if you're obsessively on the board and chat and avoiding real life like the plague. Maybe patient, well-considered action is NOT the result you were hoping for from the admin group, so MAYBE Katy and LV are ready to pounce as a result.
So...next...
Otis, holding that part of T1b that he always has, that part that he can still control despite eliciting another admin to pay for it, decides to remove the nameservers - the addresses that tell the domain to serve a particular website. He makes sure to change the login credentials he shared out of need with PSUFAN, and he changes the name servers.
Now - nameserver changes sometimes behave inconsistently. The internet is millions of little networks, and at every node there are rules and caches for DNS addresses. Sometimes, they propogate immediately. Sometimes, it takes quite a spell for that to happen. Sometimes, various nodes never respect the change at all. Thus it has been for theoneboard.com since whatever change Otis originally made. At some point, not content to merely "pull the plug" on T1B, otis changes (or allows his girlfriend to change) the name servers to...yes, you guessed it, LV's board where she hollowly and incessantly celebrates what she deems her triumphs. So, some folks are redirected to LV's board - which is clearly marked right up front as NSFW - and they are wondering what the fuck.
This is not fun for most of T1B's inhabitants, who know nothing of this foolish situation, and who have become accustomed, over the course of 5 years, to a consistent approach from such admins as are active and engaged. They are not anticipating one of the admins - who they have barely heard of, who has simply not been much involved in the board until his romance has been situated athwart it - to go apeshit and redirect their place to a NSFW site full of all manner of abject idiocy authored by what seems to be a lunatic happily possessed of many, many axes to grind and many petty antipathies. They don't like to see this happen while they visit T1b for a minute while at work to talk a little CFB or to throw up a good-natured line of smack. That is not what they deserve - and there really is no excusing or understanding it at all.
Because now, those admins who have been concerned with maintaining their board for numerous years, who have actively paid for the upkeep of the board and populated it with their participation...well, the work starts for them now. They have to weigh the time they spend with their families with their jobs - and they have to see what they can do to clean up the mess. Moreover, in the minds of those who have worked hard to occasion this chaos, there seems to be a justification of sorts - something along the lines of their own integrity being on the line because of one KC Scott's involvement with the board. They can't just leave, they can't just choose to go elsewhere...no, they instead decide to fuck with the folks who maintain and care about their board - not just the one they have it in for, but ALL of the folks who go there.
There is but scant justification for this in any real terms. There is only the most petulant and infantile throes of moronic activity - senseless thrashings in which they satisfy their caprices and leave their dignity well-behind in the dust, a situation that is really quite transparently apparent to most onlookers.
And sure...more silliness ensued. Otis transferred the domain to katy, her being better situated to control the efforts. Otis, it appears, eventually has to go to work himself. He wants to get some distance between himself and this wake of foolishness. He can't direct the domain to LV's board or somewhere else nearly as well as his paramour, who seems to have no responsibilities of any sort. She's free to fuck around with this stuff 24-7.
So, on the domain goes to Katy, who lured the admin group in to play nice - pretending to be cooperative, pretending to be amazed at the severity of her cyberboy's reaction. Yep, Katy offers her godaddy login to the admin group, and offers to let them control it and change the password to ensure their control - in her words, "returning the domain to the rightful owners". She allows the domain to be returned to the right place...BUT, oops - the next morning, she's switched it back again and changed her login, pleading ignorance and confusion as to why the login doesn't work suddenly.
And presently, she's bored again...she's back to spitting and snarling at the admin group again, sounding a tune of woe about KC Scott's continued involvement - and professing fear at her name being involved with the site that she again abhors. Her name on the domain, of course, because she had it transferred to herself. It's suddenly her rep she's worried about now - her name is on the domain, gosh!
But that fear is soon dismissed again, and she's back to posting incessantly at the next board she's staked out. She's got the domain forwarding there, and she's slavering at the prospect of a whole new group of folks to drag through this saga - for what, the 15th time? For the 25th time? It's a wide, wide web...and she's just getting started.
Meanwhile, though - the T1B admin group has moved on. They have secured other means of continuing on with their board. Sure, there will be continued drama, there will be as many stabs as possible, but there will be the board resumed, because there is at T1B that these dramaqueens never have had - a core of good solid folks who are genuinely happy to be posting together who don't give a fuck, ultimately, what these morons get up to. Sure, this has been an annoyance, and there will be some smack lobbed back - but it's all fine, because that interest in a little substance - and the ability to provide it - remains.
So be well-warned...give these folks a wide berth. We have removed them from our regarding, and we will continue to do so. We'll have a board with a functional domain that we control, and we will not suffer this sort of personage in our midst any longer. We have the same board and we are possessed of the same principles - the ones that have made this board a desirable destination over the long term. If you want to know what the heck is happening or why something is occurring, just ask - and you'll find ready at hand a well-considered, justly devised answer to your question. And if posting elsewhere is what floats your boat, then hey - that's great. We are happy that you are happy. But this bullshit is at an end. The small-minded folks who get their kicks with stuff are no longer going to be tolerated among us. We will run the board the way we want, and we don't want to allow them to be involved - nor will they. If their sort of tripe is what floats your boat, then you are also welcome to pursue it elsewhere. And for those currently opening their arms to them...well, you have been warned.
