Dude benefitted from being surrounded by Mulder,Hudson, and co. Hes Frank Viola. He had one good year, and everyone expects him to be great. Maybe if Zito gets out of Oakland he'll regain his form. But right now he looks VERY overrated.

Between young arms not able to go nine innings yet and Zito's early flameouts, these relivers are going to have their arms falling off by the All-Star break.

Whats the deal with new ownership? Are they getting a new stadium there? Because the rumblings of them moving to Vegas are starting up here again.

A's

future is bright. the 3 players they got from cards will be factors on team for years. Braves players as well. They have stud young pitchers ready, and some more on way.

Lew Wolff gave a bunch of non-answer in a recent interview, but they are looking for a new venue in Oakland. A big problem is the lack of quality real estate along BART lines.

More like our mayor. He keeps promising that Vegas will have a MLB franchise by 2008. Despite the fact there are no plans to build a stadium, the land they keep saying would be the spot to build one this week was designated to be the spot for the new city hall, and a performing arts center.

baeball in vegas is idiotic

it would go up there with these genius decisions:

1. Florida would be a great place for Major League Baseball(sincerely 10K fans for ws title run)

2. Florida is a great place for NHL

PS: retirees on fixed budgets don't pay $1500+ for season tickets

One of the all-time genius decisions:

3. Montreal can be a great baseball town. :P

PRO Sports in Vegas is idiotic. Granted they sold out the Cub Mariner exhibition games. BUT!!!!

Lets put the Devil Rays vs the Tigers here, and see how well it draws.

Back to the original topic..... like I said before the departure of 2 of the big 3 is baring it's big ugly teeth. However, I see the Moneyball theory as sort of a recurring cycle, and this just happens to be a "rebuilding" year in the cycle. Sure the Athletics might finish last but in the grand scheme of things they're just working themselves back up after exchanging what they didn't have the resources to keep for something they can develop. I know eventually one or two of either Blanton, Haren or Harden is going to end up somewhere else once they get too good to keep, but then the cycle would just repeat itself again.
Say this three times fast.....

How are the A's going to build a stadium when they can't draw fans to the ballpark. No wonder they have so many day games, the area around the Coliseum is a dump.
