Americans held for kidnapping in Haiti {G,!}

Post by Q, West Coast Style »

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/cb_haiti_americans_detained

I have two thoughts on this matter.

FIRST

This such total BS. We (USA) have and are giving so much to Haiti in this disaster, and they have the gaul to criminalize our people who were trying to help.

The U.S. justice system cannot interfere in what's going on with these Americans right now
Actaully, our money and our efforts says that we can. And should.
The Haitian justice system will do what it has to do.
I didn't know Haiti had a justice system.

That being said . . .

Second

They're Baptist Missionaries . . . From Idaho. And so what's happening to them is funny.

Rack the authorities in Haiti.

So donating money justifies kidnapping, west coast?

It's people like these baptist fucktards that give Americans a bad name.

Diego,

Given the extrordinary circumstances, if there was no intent to harm the children, or take children from parents without consent, then the church people should just be kindly asked to go back to Idaho.

WW,

Nothing against Idaho. But zealously religious folk from Idaho are even more obnoxious than other zealously religious folk. On average. Based upon my own personal experience.

I kinda' like zealously religious folks no matter where they're from.

'cept muslims, of course.

Are there any muslims in Idaho? I think I could work up a frothy hatred towards Idaho muslims.

people here (in Idaho) have been having quite the laugh about this whole thing

granted, the members of the church probably had nothing but good intentions, but grabbing kids and trying to ferret them out of a country without proper documentation is going to get you into a world of trouble no matter which country you're in, and no matter what your intentions....I used to play cards with a guy who's wife is one of those being held, and to say she's a little off would be akin to saying the Titanic had a leak

oh and btw, we've got quite a few muslims living here.....seem like decent enough people

there's a low income apartment complex about a mile from my office where lots of middle easterns seem to take refuge....every time I walk by there on my daily walk at lunch time, you always get a strong odor of this weird smelling food emanating from their apartments....

I notice there aren't many cats around the neighborhood either....coincidence? maybe
but like I say they seem friendly enough

Oh, they're just well meaning Christer cultists seeking to save the kids from voodoo ceremonies, etc. Their earnest intentions will be duly explained by their competent attorney...

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — The Haitian lawyer for 10 U.S. Baptists charged with child kidnapping tried to bribe the missionaries' way out of jail and has been fired, the attorney who hired him said Saturday night.

The Haitian lawyer, Edwin Coq, denied the allegation. He said the $60,000 he requested from the Americans' families was his fee.

Jorge Puello, the attorney in the neighboring Dominican Republic retained by relatives of the 10 American missionaries after their arrest last week, told The Associated Press that he fired Coq on Friday night. He had hired Coq to represent the detainees at Haitian legal proceedings.

Coq orchestrated "some kind of extortion with government officials" that would have led to the release of nine of the 10 missionaries, Puello charged.

"He had some people inside the court that asked him for money, and he was part of this scheme," Puello said.

Coq denied the requested $60,000 payment amounted to a bribe.
