lost in translation?

just saw this today. pretty epic. bill murray is made for his part as married man going through a midlife crisis. the chick is pretty hot too. the movie is totally about subtile nuiances. i highly recommend it if you like movies that aren't produced for mainstream consumption.

Yeah it wasnt bad. My girl hated it. She didn't "get it" was her reasoning.

I guess she wouldn't. After all her favorite movie is "Zoolander".

I don't get along with people who like Ben Stiller movies.

As for Lost in Translation, fucking just happy to hear new shit from Kevin Shields. Sophia did a good job of setting up two out-of-towners uncomfortable with their lives, but the big attraction that led them back into each other's arms wasn't there. If I'm looking for a moment outta Bill Murray, I want the scene where he acknowledges his legacy in Life Aquatic*.

*Not that the rest of that ovie was much to write about.

Yeah, the Shields stuff was awesome.

It just goes to show you what this Sophia C. had to work with...she better have made a good flick.

I liked the movie, not destined for the Halls, but entertaining nonetheless...and haunting, because of Shields.

thought it was totally overrated.

the fact that i typically watch independent films, is irelevant.

rating it, by indie film standards - it kind of sucked.

ps: Ben Stiller movies are good for mindless, lightweight entertainment that doesn't take a lot of time or brain cells. nyah.

i watch em, and laugh quite a bit too.

ps: the aquatic movie SUCKED.

It wasn't a Ben Stiller movie (he directed,but he only made a cameo) but Cable Guy is still a fucking funny ass film. Underrated IMO.

Ben Stiller is not funny. He tries hard to be funny, but he himself is not funny. He is not a chip off the old block.

Lost in translation was so rivetting I got up & started doing housework halfway through it when I rented it on DVD

I despise housework that's why we get a cleaner in once a week to do all the big jobs we hate

The only problem I had with Lost in Translation is that it was billed as a comedy. We rented it off the dish and we were looking for something funny to watch. It was called "very funny" so we checked it out. A good story, but not all that funny IMO.

Its not a funny movie,its more like a middle aged guys uncomfortable fantasy unfullfilled.

I thought LiT was pretty good. not great. Bill Murray being Bill Murray. and just to be cool:

Coppola DIRECTLY visually quotes a central landscape scene from Kurosawa's crime thriller High and Low in one of the scenes where Scarlett Johansson is taking the train to Kyoto. I'm 100% convinced of this.

i'm about 50% she does the same thing in a tunnel scene that comes out of russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky's Solaris (not the one with Clooney)..

maybe her dad did it, since he serves as co-producer or something.....but it's cool nonetheless.

and Jesus and the Mary Chain making an appearance in the closing scene is OK. Bill Murray singing More than This and What's So Funny ('bout Peace Love and Understanding) is classic SNL lounge singer Nick "whoever".

I wonder what's she's up to now? You'd think with all of the accolades, she'd be kicking out some good stuff as follow-up...everyone sure lined up for here on this one.

She's actually quite attractive in "The Island." The movie is a michael bay wankfest with way over the top chase scenes, but Scarlett was noticable.
