The one in Indonesia in 2004 was 9.1 (or 9.3, depending on who you believe). The largest ever recorded was in Chile at 9.5.

Too late...just some light rain this morning in SoCal; currently at O'Hare waiting for a connecting flight back to DC. I think SD will be OK.
