I grew up there and played high school baseball with former major leaguers T.Shumpert and S. Finley.

That town (Paducah) has some issues, mainly meth heads and drug trafficking main artery (Interstate 24) between Chicago, St. Louis, Memphis and Atlanta. Every once in a while the city will put up road blocks along main corridors to catch drunk drivers, warrants for arrests and deadbeat dads.

This little story does not surprise me at all.

And you get used to it being that way....and suffer culture shock when you see this:

We went to the OL"S class reunion in Crescent City last July. Got to town about 10 pm, turned a corner and Crist almighty....a fucking road block complete with 2 or 3 police cars, a fucking trailer with extended spot lights, 2 really fat cops with some cadet wanna be's slinging flashlights around...all on the main road to about 3 bars, the Elks lodge ( where we were headed) and about 4 or so hotels. You would think they were going to arrest the whole fucking town, which in that shit hole is not to far off the truth..

Unused to such Gestapo like behavior, I pull up, stone cold sober, but remembering I forgot to take the unloaded 9mm out of the door pocket, with a worthless Oregon CCW in CA. Turn on the bullshit, the Marine Corps hat / bumper sticker and a commercial drivers license, decent appearing vehicle got me a quick look with a wave through....my fucking heart about coming through my chest as I was seeing me getting it for felony gun possession in CA....

Fucking Gestapo bastards.

Drunk, high dad leaves baby in oven overnight, police say


A Kentucky man high on marijuana and drunk on whiskey put his 5-week-old son in the oven Sunday and left him there overnight, police said.

After smoking marijuana at the restaurant where he works as a cook, Larry Long, 33, returned home to share a fifth of whiskey with the baby's mother, Brandy Hatton, McCracken County Sheriff Jon Hayden said in a statement.

Hatton had four or five shots and went to bed while Long finished the bottle, Hayden said.


Big deal. The oven wasn't on. The door was ajar. Seems to me a pretty safe place to store the kid while getting shitfaced.

Perhaps he was just making a little Meatloaf.
