Rate your team's draft - 5 yrs later

Oakland Raiders
1 23(23) Fabian Washington CB Nebraska
2 6(38) Stanford Routt CB Houston
3 5(69) Andrew Walter QB Arizona St.
3 14(78) Kirk Morrison ILB San Diego St.
6 1(175) Anttaj Hawthorne DT Wisconsin
6 38(212) Ryan Riddle DE California
6 40(214) Peter McMahon OT Iowa

F. Washington was a starter for a few years and was ... decent-to-slightly-below-average
Routt has almost never started and is just above garbage - he be very fast, though
Walter - whiff
Morrison - decent, racks up a lot of tackles, but is really not much
Hawthorne, Riddle, McMahon - bwaa..

I'll give this one a solid D.

Perhaps that's even generous.

1 30(30) Heath Miller TE Virginia - STUD
2 30(62) Bryant McFadden CB Florida St. - A serviceable 4 years before he went FA and left
3 30(93) Trai Essex OG Northwestern - A servicable, if not spectacular player
4 30(131) Fred Gibson WR Georgia - Meh
5 30(166) Rian Wallace OLB Temple - Meh
6 30(204) Chris Kemoeatu OG Utah - Outstanding find at this slot.
7 14(228) Shaun Nua DE BYU - meh
7 30(244) Noah Herron FB Northwestern - A numbers casualty who did play some with Green Bay later. A solid pick, just not for the Steelers.

All in all the Steelers have 2 solid starters and 1 solid reserve/starter remaining. I'd give it a B+.

You do know the difference between being a late add on to the Pro Bowl because the first, 2nd and 3rd team guys all declined their invites and being elected to the ALL-PRO team? Jackson is hardly All-Pro material.

That being said, the Bolts did have a great 2005 draft.

Great. So Jackson was one of 2 or 3 guys actually trying in the most talent free Pro Bowl in modern history. That doesn't make him one of the two best wideouts in the NFL. He isn't even the best wideout in the AFC West.

He got at least one vote and he is the best and most dependable receiver in the division easily. Marshall is a bag of shit.

Peter King is a fucking moron.

Here's a list of NFL WRs I would take over Vincent Jackson LAST YEAR.

Reggie Wayne
Randy Moss
Andre Johnson
Brandon Marshall
Wes Welker
Larry Fitzgerald
Miles Austin
Steve Smith

Just to name a few. He's hardly an All Pro caliber player. All Pro means he's one of the two or three best in the whole LEAGUE. You, CMike and Peter King must all be sucking on the same crack pipe if you think that is the case.

I'll give you Fitzgerald and Johnson, but Jackson can easily hold his own against anyone else on the list. You don't see him week in and week out. I understand.

Here's a few more guys

De'Sean Jackson
Sidney Rice

I'll give you that Jackson is somewhere in the top 15 when it comes to receivers. But that's not All Pro. That's more like a 3rd hand invite to the Pro-Bowl after Reggie Wayne, Wes Welker and Randy Moss sent their regrets.

'05, a brutal draft year for the Lions...

1:10(10) Mike Williams, WR Southern Cal...of all the busts the Lions have had, he is arguable the worst of them all (44 catches and 2 TDs in 30 NFL games)

2:5(37) Shaun Cody, DT Southern Cal...a below average NFL player, not worth the 37th pick in the draft; he's now with the Texans

3:8(72) Stanley Wilson, CB Stanford...played three seasons with the Lions as a nickle/dime corner; a very forgettable player

5:9(145) Dan Orlovsky, QB Connecticut...best known for running out of the back of the end zone in a game against the Vikings during the 0-16 season; started 7 games for the Lions and is now a backup with the Texans

6:10(184) Bill Swancutt, DE Oregon St...the Lions rarely get value in the late rounds and they didn't get it with him; he appeared in 8 games over two seasons...never recorded a tackle or a sack

6:32(206) Jonathan Goddard, OLB Marshall...never played for the Lions, spent parts of 2 seasons with the Colts before playing in the AFL; he was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2008

From 2005, no players remain on the Lions and only 2 are still in the league...Cody as a starting defensive tackle and Orlovsky as a backup QB in Houston. The Lions got very little from this class...I give it a D-. The only reason it wasn't an F is because Orlovsky was a decent get out of the 5th round and made a serious run at being the Lions' QB. The rest of the draft was horrendous.
