Time to talk football.........
Well, I wanna fight every member on the Royals team right now so I figured I would do something constructive and talk football.........
So who's going to be a contender next year? Alabama loses a lot of key players but they'll be considered one of the favorites. Florida should still be pretty good even without what's-his-face.
So what's your teams outlook for 2010? Optimistic? Pessimistic? Drinking the Kool-Aid?
My team happens to be considered one of the contenders and I'm really not sure what to think of that. I'm trying to be cautiously optimistic even though I just sent my season ticket order in for what will be the most anticipated Iowa football season of my lifetime. Not only because of the high ranking and expectations, but also because of the best home schedule I can ever remember. Ohio State, Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan State, Iowa State........all at home. Sick.
But is Iowa truly a national title contender? I have my doubts. Maybe it's the fact that we're very rarely actually a contender so I am not used to this. But realistically, predicting a team that lost 4 starters (1 will be a Top 10 NFL pick, and a couple others will be drafted) on the offensive line to have a shot at a national title is a little premature.
The good thing is Ferentz and his staff always do a great job with the O-line. And on top of that we've got all the tough games at home except for Arizona.
I will say this, I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that if Iowa can find a way to produce just an average offensive line this is one of the Top 2-3 teams in the country. No team in the country is deeper with skill position talent and experience than Iowa. 3 RB's that could start almost anywhere. 2 big play WR's. A quality, experienced TE. An experienced QB that is poised for a breakout season. And then the defense should be outstanding as always. Clayborn is probably the best defensive player in the country. The D-line is without a doubt the best in the nation. Jeremiha Hunter is one of the better LB's in the conference. Our safeties are experienced and talented. The corners are quality as well. And the overall special teams unit will, again, be amongst the best in the nation.
So this team definitely has the POTENTIAL. Talent + experience eveywhere except the O-line. So basically I'm not really sure how to predict this team. I have no doubt they'll win a minimum of 9-10 games. They could do that in their sleep. But in order to win 11-12 games, the O-line is going to have to gel. Even with the skill talent, it won't matter if they don't have anyone blocking for them. I will pick Iowa to go 10-2, but if after the Arizona game we are seeing an O-line that shows some ability............watch the fuck out!

Arizona's a tough team? Pussies.

Don't get ur panties all wet just yet, Jon. I call 5 losses minimum for Iowa. Iowa never plays good two years in a row. And if the do win 11 or 12 games this year or even get a sniff at the nat'l title....Ferentz bolts sometime in Jan 2011. Which is worse? 5 losses or losing the only thing that inspired you to pull down your yellowed and tattered Chuck Long poster?

tOSU, Wisconsin and PSU will all whack Iowa at home. They lose to at least one slappy on the road. 8-4 if they're lucky.

Making your predictions on Iowa look stupid got old a couple of years ago. So I'll just say this.............. Iowa is going to lose to BOTH Wisconsin and State Penn at home- 2 teams we have owned for a long time? Umm......okay, dude. Yeah, that makes perfect sense.Goober McTuber wrote:tOSU, Wisconsin and PSU will all whack Iowa at home. They lose to at least one slappy on the road. 8-4 if they're lucky.

Not foreseeing a PSU win at Iowa this year...but shit, I've certainly seen stranger things.

Even with UM's two shit seasons they're more imporortant to CFB than Iowa ever will be. They will always get more ink and more airtime on sports radio and tv. But you knew that, you're just an obsessed little cock monger who slaps his willy to anything anti-Michigan. The inferiority complex is fitting though.

But you see, Steve, that's cool with me. I tell you what...........you can enjoy the national publicity your school gets and I'll enjoy the victories my team gets. Aight?

I thought you'd be gone now with the Royals heating up. Leading the league in hitting and a thorn in the ass of my Tigers... but, yeah Iowa should win more games than Michigan this year. Probably the first time I've ever admitted that out loud before a season. I like the direction of the team right now. The peices are coming together and (if RR can keep his job long enough, we all know that's a big "if") by the time Devin Gardner is running the show UM will be back atop the Big16 and competing for bcs coin.TheJON wrote:Steve is right, Michigan will always get more national pub than Iowa.

So you admit your coach is on the verge of getting the boot, but you like the "direction" your program is headed on. Christ, talk about denial. And Gardner shouldn't do anything for you until you actually field a defense.

Re: Time to talk football.........
Speaking for myself....I like the direction of the program (as I said). By that I mean some personel is in the third year of the program and depth is being built at last. The offense came around big last year averaging 30+ per game. The defense (Fuck Schafer) needs to make a huge leap in year two under Robinson. If it all falls well RR easily retains his job. My reference was meant to point out how all the off field shit has the UM Mob out for blood. If he follows the rules and wins at least 7 games I think he should be allowed to continue. If he's bowless and/or more off the field shit piles up....he's gone. I think it would set the program back again to go through a regime change so I'm rooting against RR's pink slip.

there's no admission to a looming staff overhaul. pretty basic capitalist endeavor here: win or lose your job. provided david brandon doesn't already have a plan in place to replace dickrod, i'm also pretty confident he'll win enough to stick around.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:I didn't call it a contradiction, I called it a state of denial. depletions everywhere else? since you already mentioned the scrub defense, i'm sure you're talking about the offense, which means you don't really know what you're talking about. unless you meant zoltan, of course.
i didn't realize two inches shorter and a split second off in the 40 made you a poor man's version of terrell pryor. i'll trade those metrics in for the fact his passing abilities graded out very high at the qb camps he attended last year and that he doesn't come off as a complete moron when responding to basic interview questions.

Well, then you must suck about 50% of the time. You only got back to .500 against Wisconsin because of the Don Morton era. All-time, it’s 42-41-2.TheJON wrote:21-7 in the last 28. BTW, what’s the deal on this Beluga kid the Packers drafted? How come he dropped so far in the first round? Report on him is that he’s slow, has short arms and small hands. And that he’ll probably never make it at left tackle and might even wind up at guard. Another of Ted Thompson’s genius picks.

Sensitive? You're the guy rushing to a post that wasn't even addressed to you. Anyway, this is what we do in here. If we meet for a beer and I storm outta the bar cuz of a ski mask reference, then you can accuse me of sensitivity.M Club wrote:you sound a bit too sensitive considering this thread echoes every umich/msu discussion i've had since i was 4.
Ugh...ok. He thinks the chances of DickRod getting canned is pretty damn likely. Happy now?there's no admission to a looming staff overhaul.
Exactly, and since DickRod is losing at a pretty high clip which will result in another regime change, it's pretty tough for me to buy into this optimistic outlook. Unless one's sole reason for optimism is based on the fact RR will be gone, but even then, one can't really gage the direction of their program until a new coach is hired.pretty basic capitalist endeavor here: win or lose your job.
I guess the offense is serviceable enough for UMICH not to lose by 30 ppg. They also looked pretty sweet against one of the worst MSU defenses ever assembled in my lifetime.depletions everywhere else? since you already mentioned the scrub defense, i'm sure you're talking about the offense, which means you don't really know what you're talking about. unless you meant zoltan, of course.
That's fine. I still don't see how Gardner changes the entire direction of the program, especially when we don't even know what he can do yet. Tater Tot looked pretty solid last year at times. Didn't really matter though when the opposition got the ball back and scored in about 7 seconds.i didn't realize two inches shorter and a split second off in the 40 made you a poor man's version of terrell pryor. i'll trade those metrics in for the fact his passing abilities graded out very high at the qb camps he attended last year and that he doesn't come off as a complete moron when responding to basic interview questions.

ja, it's what we do in here. so why are you boo hoo'ing because i brought up your insecurities re: umich/msu? oh, wah, steve, cheapshot, no fair.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote: Sensitive? no, you're still letting your insecurities translate things for you. let's see:Ugh...ok. He thinks the chances of DickRod getting canned is pretty damn likely. Happy now?
optimism, optimism, and a caveat. you're still wrong.steve wrote:I like the direction of the team right now. The peices are coming together and (if RR can keep his job long enough, we all know that's a big "if") by the time Devin Gardner is running the show UM will be back atop the Big16 and competing for bcs coin.
probably because you don't actually follow the program.Exactly, and since DickRod is losing at a pretty high clip which will result in another regime change, it's pretty tough for me to buy into this optimistic outlook. every msu defense is nearly the worst assembled in your lifetime. to flip the script, michigan's run the worst two teams of my lifetime out the last two years and state's barely scraped by. so once again, your success is a byproduct of michigan's struggles and not anything your program can string together by itself.I guess the offense is serviceable enough for UMICH not to lose by 30 ppg. true. i obviously don't know how gardner will pan out, just that his recruiting profile isn't any worse than pryor's save those two inches. the idea is that the offense will be a lot more potent with someone running the offense who can actually make the zone read + see over any lineman over 5'7" (tater's big issues last year, plus the running around once his first receiver was locked up). That's fine. I still don't see how Gardner changes the entire direction of the program, especially when we don't even know what he can do yet. Tater Tot looked pretty solid last year at times.
