I'm in the same boat as far as the aversion to organized religion. I haven't been in a church for a reason other than a funeral in over a decade.
You might consider carrying a roll of tape with you when you ride. When I'm on a PGR mission I (and other ride captains) carry tape in case someone new is there wearing something that might offend the family. Might even help you in situations beyond entering a thumper house.
