bike ride PET

Post by MgoBlue-LightSpecial »

Decided to take a bike ride along Lake Shore Dr from my neighborhood in Lincoln Park to the south side of Chicago. I got as far Kenwood before I decided to turn back, which is where Obama used to live, and still has a home (save your poli takes, clones). So here's everything from start to finish.

My street
Image

Image

Image

This is Tin Lizzie, a Michigan State bar I go to sometimes. There are better ones, but this one is within stumbling distance.
Image

Mickeys, a competing Ohio St bar across the street. The patrons outside like to belligerently yell things at passers-by. Fukkin' Bucknuts. The place is kinda cool though; it was built around a tree which sprouts through the roof.
Image

The Field House is my favorite local bar. It's a good mix of down to earth locals who really like and know their sports. Cheap beer and sometimes free pizzas.
Image

Clark St, the main drag. Take this north a few blocks and you run into the douchebag festering shithole better known as Wrigleyville.
Image

Biking toward the lake now, passing through the old nature museum.
Image

Image

Image

Image

Back on the path.
Image

North Shore Beach. Very popular and crowded spot. Gotta be on high alert when biking through this sea of people.
Image

Image

This is a big party ship. No, it's not real, it's docked in the sand. I've passed it many times but never went inside. I did today.
Image

Tons of hotties and slick dbags. You take the good with the bad I suppose. This band was atop playing some covers. At the time it was Pearl Jam's Even Flow. Not too bad, actually. I'll sendspace their shit to Derron and blow his mind. I'd also like to point out that I tried my damndest to get some quality teet and ass pics (throughout the ride) but was thwarted EVERY fucking time by one thing or another. My luck today was utter shite. Maybe next time.
Image

Back on the path.
Image

Image

Some sledding hill I felt compelled to ride down.
Image

A view of the abortion that is renovated Soldier Field from atop the hill.
Image

Shedd Aquarium and some other sites.
Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Zyclone's discounted paddle boat.
Image

Image

Veered off the trail down to a pier.
Image

Image

Image

A fine resting spot to down some water.
Image

Back on the lakefront trail. This is a historic fountain, though I just call it the bigass fountain. I was a good 75 yards or so away from this thing and could still feel the water hitting me. Felt prettay prettay good on this hot day.
Image

A huge tree cracked in half. A massive storm rolled through here yesterday and did quite a bit of damage.
Image

Ahh, solitude.
Image

Image

The black man's beach.
Image

Atop a bridge in Kenwood overlooking Lake Shore Dr to the north. That was the end of the road.

Nice PET. Mrs. Rumps and I walked through Oz Park and some of the surrounding areas as to which I believe is near Lincoln Park.

Very nice area.

Nice PET. Been to Tin Lizzie's as well as Mickey's. Got a friend who lives in Lincoln Park. Partied there many times. Best time was we went in the Fall and had a BBQ on the roof of the house where it was all decked and a TV was there on CFB as well as a hot tub. Good times.

My most  part of that area was the parking. First of all, they pack the cars in the spots like sardines. When we piled into her beat-up Corrola one time, she just rams the car in front of her, backs up and rams the car behind, rinse and repeat about 5 times before we are able to wedge out of there. She just said, "When they park you in like that, it's the only thing to do. No one who parks in the street has a nice car, at least not for long."

edit: Actually, this photo makes my point. Look how tight those cars are parked together.

Parking is more of an issue for out-of-towners, as trying to find a spot late at night or weekends is damn near impossible without driving around for about an hour. Most people, myself included, keep the car parked at all times unless going to/from work. I try to nab a spot at the end of the street to avoid the sardine thing.

Yeah, we went most places in cabs even though she had a car. She did take us to the airport in her car though since it was Ohare and not Midway, a much longer cab ride and $$$ from Lincoln Park. She said she would always call her house and leave herself a message of the address she parked her car though because so many times she had forgotten where she had parked.

Why does she hate the CTA? Fortunately everything I need (grocery, restaurants, bars) is within walking distance, but if not, there are two bus lines that run on Clark St, about a block from my place. There is a train station a few blocks further, which I don't use often, but it's nice to have available.

Gunfire doesn't occur in Chicago's upper-crust neighborhoods. Daley makes sure of that.

Just another beautiful summer weekend in Chicago.
At least 40 shot across city over weekend
June 21, 2010 1:52 PM | 112 Comments | UPDATED STORY

At least 40 people were shot over the weekend across Chicago, with eight of them slain, according to police logs.

The toll covers a period from 8:43 p.m. Friday--after violent storms hit the city--to 6:39 this morning.

On Sunday, Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis acknowledged a high number shootings over the weekend and attributed more than half of them to the work of gangs.

The total from overnight Sunday into this morning was at least 18, including a 1-year-old girl who suffered a graze wound and a 44-year-old man who was shot in the head and killed.

That girl and four men were struck by gunfire on the Near West Side about 12:11 a.m. in the 1300 block of West Hastings Street, police said.

The girl was standing outside with her father and the other men when someone opened fire in their direction, police said.

The girl's graze wound was to her ear. She was driven in a minivan to the University of Illinois Medical Center where she was treated and released, police said.

The four men, including the girl's father, were taken to Stroger Hospital for treatment. A 34-year-old was listed in critical condition with a wound to his abdomen. A 30-year-old was in good condition with wounds to his face and abdomen. Another 30-year-old was shot in his right arm and leg and a 33-year-old was shot in the left arm. The latter two were listed in stable condition at the hospital, police said.

The last reported shooting was a man shot in the head at 6:39 a.m. in the 11300 block of South Ada Street in the Roseland neighborhood. He was in critical condition at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. Police said they were looking for a particular individual.

Earlier Sunday:

• A man was shot in the chest at 75th and Halsted streets at 2:45 a.m. Credale Woulard, 28, of the 7700 block of South Ada Street, was pronounced dead an hour later at Stroger Hospital, according to a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner's office.

• A 44-year-old man was found slain about 2:02 a.m. with a gunshot wound to his head in the 7200 block of South Marshfield Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood, police said. The man was identified as Darryl Dunn of the 3600 block 80th Street, according to a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner's office.

• A 31-year-old man was shot about 5 p.m. in the 5100 block of South Halsted Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Preliminary reports said he was waiting for a CTA bus when he heard shots and felt pain in his buttocks. He was taken to Stroger in fair condition, police said.

• About 6:20 p.m., a male victim was shot in his right foot in the 7400 block of South Euclid Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood. He was taken in good condition to South Shore Hospital. His age was not available, police said.

•A 16-year-old girl was in critical condition at Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to her back from a 9:16 p.m. shooting in the 1200 block of East 78th Street in the Grand Crossing neighborhood. A male assailant pulled a gun and opened fire, police said.

• A 24-year-old was struck by gunfire about 9:47 p.m. in the 200 block of North Lamon Avenue in the city's South Austin neighborhood.

Police said he was shot during an argument with his male assailant, and was taken in good condition to Mt. Sinai Hospital with a wound to his right leg.

• About 15 minutes later in the same neighborhood, a 20-year-old man was shot while sitting in a vehicle in the 600 block of South Central Avenue, police said. He suffered a wound to his leg and was taken in stable condition to Loretto Hospital.

• In the Marquette Park neighborhood about 10:28 p.m., two men were shot in the 2900 block of West 64th Street, police said.

An 18-year-old man was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a gunshot wound to his back. Another 18-year-old suffered wounds to his right leg and foot. He was in good condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital, police said.

Preliminary reports said both victims were standing outside when shots were fired in their direction.

• About 30 minutes later in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, a 20-year-old man was shot in the wrist while was talking to friends in the 6200 block of South Maplewood Avenue, police said. He was taken in good condition to Holy Cross Hospital.

• About 12:30 a.m., a 28-year-old woman was shot in the 6000 block of South Honore Street in West Englewood. She was in serious condition with wounds to her right side and arm at Christ Medical Center. She was a passenger in a vehicle stopped in traffic.

• About 1 a.m., in the West Rogers Park neighborhood on the North Side, a man was shot in the arm in the 6400 block of North Damen Avenue. He was taken in good condition to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston.

• About 1:52 a.m., in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side, a 25-year-old Lansing man was shot in his abdomen and left arm in the 6400 block of South Ingleside Avenue. The man was identified as Larry Johnson of the 14000 block of South Park Avenue, according to a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at 3:36 a.m. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

• About 2:20 a.m. in the 7800 block of South Constance Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood, a person was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Christ hospital. There was no information available about that victim's age, gender or condition, police said.

Pierre York, of the 8600 block of South Wood Street, was pronounced dead at 10:07 p.m. Sunday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. after being shot on Friday. York and a friend were walking in the 1800 block of West 87th Street about 9:20 p.m. Friday when a third person approached and began to argue with victim.

No one is in custody for any of the shootings.[/code]

plus all your posh neighborhoods require parking permits, making it all the more impossible for an out-of-towner / someone who doesn't have four weeks to wait at some city office waiting for their $20 now $30 now $50 permit to find a spot.

All permit zones allow guest parking, and you can get the passes online. It helps if your host isn't a dick and tells you about this ahead of time and/or supplies them for you.

Nice pics for the tourists MGO. No doubt Chicago is a great looking city from that lakefront point of view. I was born and raised on the near northwest side, Logan Square area mostly. Went to Lane Tech HS within walking distance to Wrigley field and right next to the famous Riverview Amusement Park. Of course those were the good old days and after 50 years I finally bailed out.
Chicago is just another overpopulated urban shithole. Stray a block or two from touristy downtown and you will be part of the foodchain. In a constant battle with LA and New Orleans for most corrupt big city government and a murder rate (especially among school age kids) that is just plain discusting. I'm only about 50 miles from downtown Chicago but I will never go back into that sewer for anything.
