John Jefferson still alive?
I wonder if Rolf Benershka ever gained weight?

I think not.Jsc wrote:It would have been nice to have voted him into the HOF while he was living, he belongs there.
Good but not great coach.
Five division titles in fourteen seasons - two with the 'Tardinals and three with the Blots.
111-83 record.
3-6 record in the playoffs.
No conference championships and obviously no super bowl wins.
It's not a Hall of Fame resume.
Re: Don Coryell......RIP
Fuck off, you stupid douche. He was the first coach to win 100 games in both college and the NFL and he did it with doormat teams. SD State, Cardinals and Chargers were all trainwrecks before he got there and collapsed back into mediocrity as soon as he left.poptart wrote:I think not.Jsc wrote:It would have been nice to have voted him into the HOF while he was living, he belongs there.

He was also one of the most innovative coaches in NFL history. The modern NFL passing game is Don Coryell's legacy. John Madden, Joe Gibbs, Ernie Zampese and Jim Hannifan were all Coryell assistants.
If you think that isn't a HoF resume, you are a pinheaded fucktard who knows absolutely nothing about football at any level.

It's the PRO Football Hall of Fame.
College exploits don't matter.
Sometimes you disappoint me with your homerific takes, mvscal.
Looking objectively at the Coryell resume, no, he's not a Hall of Famer.
Re: Don Coryell......RIP
You aren't looking at his resume, dickhead. You're looking at wins and losses and there is a fuck of a lot more to a career than that.
He changed the game, idiot. You can't say that about many coaches.

Re: Don Coryell......RIP
He didn't change the game, dimwit.
And nothing changed in SD, either.
They got close a few times - and then got their @ss beat.
What big game did he ever win again??
Get the fuck out of here, 'tard.
He didn't "revolutionize" the game, as clueless Spanos said.
He came into the game right at as the rules were being modified to enhance the passing game.
Props to him for doing a really good job and maximizing things with the passing game.
But there was an overall spike in passing numbers around that time and if Coryell hadn't been seen as the "leading edge" of the wave, someone else would have been, what with the rules and game becoming more pass-friendly.
He's in the same breath as a guy like Bum Phillips, who, like Coryell, took over a floundering franchise and got them very competetive.
Phillips isn't a Hall of Famer and neither is your guy.
He was a good coach, a fun coach, a coach of note, but that's as far as it goes.
Sorry, homer.

Re: Don Coryell......RIP
Yeah, it must have been the rule changes that allowed Coryell to put up such great numbers. It's not like his teams at SDSU had great passing teams as well.
Right, Prophetard?

Oh, his thang was the passing game.
I give him his props for that.
Again, remind me what big game this GREAT HALL OF FAME COACH ever won?
The fact is the NFL was opening things up (by rule changes) for the passing game right as Coryell came in.
He started in the NFL in 1973.
1974
- Kickoffs were moved from the 40 to the 35 yd line - giving teams better field position and more freedom not to begin in an offensive shell.
- Roll-blocking and cutting of wide receivers was eliminated; the extent of downfield contact a defender could have with an eligible receiver was restricted; the penalties for offensive holding, illegal use of the hands, and tripping were reduced from 15 to 10 yards.
1977
- Defenders were permitted to make contact with eligible receivers only once.
1978
- Rules changes permitted a defender to maintain contact with a receiver within five yards of the line of scrimmage, but restricted contact beyond that point. The pass-blocking rule was interpreted to permit the extending of arms and open hands.
You're really not bright.

Dude better have been THE most innovative coach in league history if you're going to put him in the HoF based on that.
If the guy had been a Raider coach you'd be in here mocking any talk of him and HoF, and you KNOW that's true.
Just give it a rest, man.
Maybe Norv will get there for ya. :D

Just when everyone had almost forgotten about the long and distinguished career ChargerTard has maintained across numerous forums, along comes a reminder of just how stupid this fanbase is. Way to get clowned in the off-season fuckmonkeys.
ChargerTard was run.

If you want to pursue this Coryell thing by using a "Marino never won anything, either" line of reasoning, this will end very badly for you.
Think of why it is, if you can think.

wins and losses only count when a team in kansas called kansas hires a black man. you just schooled yourself.mvscal wrote:You aren't looking at his resume, dickhead. You're looking at wins and losses and there is a fuck of a lot more to a career than that.
