Anyone know what code is for....
...dog graves in Ct?
Our beloved sissy has an appointment with the reaper tomorrow afternoon at 5:20 PM.
Been putting this off for awhile now, but, it's time. She's had a pretty good run at 16+ years. She doesn't seem to be in too much pain, but, her hind legs are awfully arthritic, she's pretty much blind and deaf and her bladder control checked out about the time GW went back to teeeehas.
Sure will miss her as will my kids who don't know what it's like without her. We got her from the local animal shelter when my 18 year old was a toddler. She is the best behaved most mellow dog you could ask for. Been very low maintenance too. Way lower maintenance than the other 2 females in the house. Best 40 bucks I ever spent.
I've got her final resting place down near the pool dug to about 3 ft. Foundation footer code is 42 inches in these parts, but, I doubt whats left of her will last long enough to get frost heaved 3 ft. Besides, with all this global warming going on, we won't have frost for much longer anyway.
Rest in Peace old girl. You've been great.
Any tips on getting urine stains out of oak? I guess I'll just have to bust out the belt sander and plenty of 60 grit. Prolly have to sand until I fall through to the basement.

no frost to speak of in SD. 18 inches would do for you, but, I guess we might have to go 6 ft to keep your gut from peeping out.Mikey wrote: If I see any 6 ft. holes starting to appear in my yard, I'm outta here.

That wouldn't be so Republican.
Even pets need to take personal responsiblity for their actions.
Re: Anyone know what code is for....
If you have kids you probably have a veritable pet cemetery somewhere in your yard. I've got one cat buried here already, and back north on my old property there are two cats and a variety of gerbils/hamsters, birds, and fish somewhere. I'll put a large rock on top of any cat burial spot. Malachi, my younger son's cat, lies under a $75 piece of pink granite I bought a while back. Yes, we have to buy rocks down here. I have Pennsylvania blue stone walkway along the north side of my house that set me back a few dollars.
One nice thing about living in CNY was being able to take a drive out in the country and get all the stone you needed for the price of the gas you burned.

Can't understand why anyone gets so emotionally attached to an animal they feel obligated to create a memorial for it. And I love my pets as much as the next guy. They are treated well. But no, I won't ever be digging any holes in my yard to bury them in.

i ain't building the taj ma fukking hal. i am talking about an hour with the shovel. will probably make a cement grave stone too. that'll cost me all of about 3 dollars. what's that? about a 30 pack of rice lite? and for that, my kids will have something to remember her by and maybe some day bring their kids to see it and tell them about her.

I already covered that.
My beloved pets will find their final resting place in a country road ditch, far away from any human habitation. Well, far enough away that nobody will smell them.
I'm practical and thoughtful like that.

What, you didn't take any pictures?
Just put my old girl down about 6 weeks ago. She was 15 and her hips finally gave out to the point where she couldn't even get to the food bowl. The last 2 years, I've had to carry her up and down the porch stairs so she could take care of business. She was not a small dog, went about 80 lbs. I wanted to put her down way before I did, but the soft part of my heart couldn't do it. That, and the wife and daughter wouldn't be happy with me.

I think you should be able to get rover cremated for a nominal fee. Then you can spread him all over the lawn.

Nominal fee?
the going rate for cremating a pet is $65 around these parts, on top of the $70 to shoot the mutt with a hypodermic needle filled with an overdose of tranquilizer.

What's wrong with throwing the mutt in the garbage?
I'm not trying to be callous. I'm talking about if they croak and the garbage pickup is next day or something. It's not like the trash monkeys even get out of the truck anymore.

The microchip that the humane society installed in your pet goes haywire and buzzers go off at the dog abuse police station and you are arrested for improper disposal of mammal.R-Jack wrote:What's wrong with throwing the mutt in the garbage?

Re: Anyone know what code is for....
It's illegal to bury a pet in your backyard in this town. (I've done it along with a stone marker) city ordinance or something. To tell you the truth, I didn't know this until after the last pet I buried (daughter's outdoor cat) a few years ago. I believe the local vets put them in the landfill after they charge you 60 bucks to off them.

I've mellowed in that I did take the mutt to the vet to be "humanely" put down. 20 years ago I woulda' just tossed it in the Missouri river. Catfish gotta' eat too, you know.

Well, that kinda sucked. 124 bucks. Could prolly get the mob to whack somebody for less.
Sissy checked out at about quarter till 6 today. That super OD of anesthesia shit don't mess around. Couple of you fukkers oughta think about mixing up a batch for yourselves.
Sissy is now resting comfortably out by the pool. Hope we're as lucky with the next pet....if there is a next one. Probably take a year or so off from it though, but my daughter is nagging us pretty bad about getting a cat.

Totally concur. I sat in on my grandmother's dog when it was time for her to get put down. Grandma couldn't bear to watch and she wanted someone to be with the old girl in her last minutes. It's amazing how quick that shit works. It took under 2 minutes with absolutely no outward sign of pain.smackaholic wrote:Well, that kinda sucked. 124 bucks. Re: Anyone know what code is for....
a cat is not a dog. might possibly be a few anatomical differences.
my vets been at this game for about 40 years. i'd say he was pretty competent.
he used a vein low on her hind leg. blood doesn't circulate quick enough to do it that fast. it took effect in 5-10 seconds. she was in full arrest in about 30. nervous system twitching lasted another minute or two.
