So, Go Coogs.....

Post by King Crimson »

you guys lose Dana Holgerson to Oklahoma State.....I like Kevin Sumlin but it's wrong to say that he was the "OC" at Oklahoma which i see a lot around the inter-webs bbs. he never called the plays for OU. Though, there are certainly a lot of OU fans who would have liked to have seen it....

losing Holgerson is no step for Keenan or what? seems sort of significant to me....

I would agree to the loss of Holgerson being a step back if you had new QB, WRs, RBs and what not, but Keenum, Carrier, Edwards, and Beall have been playing together for two seasons already. Cleveland is in his second year and is extremely smart in his route running and could be a Biletnikoff finalist this season.

Keenum is in his 4th season as a starter, so he knows the system. Kingsbury and Phillips share coordinator duties and they were both schooled under Holgerson last season, so I'm not really worried.

Houston will be the #1 offense again, no question. It's the defense I'm worried about. They get a legit DC from the NFL in Brian Stewart who is implementing a 3-4 so the Coogs can use their speed on D. They got two legit JUCO transfers in Tonga and Sammie Brown who will make an immediate impact on the front seven, but it's still a shaky D. They return McGraw and Steward and Hunter on the front 7 and have Saenz and Robinson as returning starters for the secondary.

The D finished 111th last season, so anything ranked around 80 would be enough to get them a dream season. They can do it, but the questions is will they?

who called the plays, Holgerson or Sumlin? not doubting Sumlin, just curious. At A&M, Sumlin filled in for whoever RC Slocum sidelined to beat OU with Reggie McNeal in 02 (I think) at Kyle when OU was #1.

While Okie State can suck it, I do like Gundy's O and think Larry Fedora deserves a shot at a bigtime program if he wins 8-9 at Southern Miss this year.

Holgerson for the most part, but Sumlin was involved every now and then.

Sumlin lets his coordinators do most of the PC, but he might have a tighter leash on Kingsbury and Phillips splitting duties. Like I said, this offense kind of runs itself with the experienced personnel on that side of the ball.

Holgerson will be missed and I hope Gundy lets him do his thing at Okie State. Maybe one day he'll get his shot at being a HC at a respectable school. We'll see.
