N. Korea, Iran, maybe somewhere else.
Wouldn't at all surprise me to see some kind of "major" event take place within the next two months.
An event which may shake up the current dynamic - which indicate that the democrats will be taken to the woodshed in November.
Yes, very.88 wrote:Are you optimistic about the future?
Drop by the Theology Forum.
But economically and/or politically?
No, not at all.
The republicans seizing congress in November would "stop the bleeding" a bit, and 2 years of gridlock would be MUCH better than 2 more years of us going straight down the shithole by pursuing an entirely asinine agenda.88 wrote:If so, what do you see that makes you think things will get better? And when do you see this happening?
I don't see any way around America having to swallow, one way or another, tough medicine.
The future: Overall reduced standard of living.
We've gone from producing a WHOLE lot of shit that the rest of the world can use -------> to producing not much the world wants - other than p0rn and Steven Spielberg flicks.
And in the process of going from that ------> to that, we've racked up an obscene debt and made obscene future financial promises which we can almost certainly not honor.
What a gameplan.
To put it bluntly, America needs to stop being fat, drunk, and stupid.
Re: Obama, Apathy and the Future
Highly unlikely. The GOP needs 40 seats in the House and 9 in the Senate. I have no doubt they'll make gains but I don't think it's very realistic to expect them to regain control. It should make it more difficult for the libtards, though.88 wrote:If the GOP manages to take control of both houses of Congress,

Good posts all.
Great thread.
Great thread.
With all the horseshit around here, you'd think there'd be a pony somewhere.
Re: Obama, Apathy and the Future
In the short sighted context that most Americans think in..not at all..in the long term it will find it's way.88 wrote:

Until we reduce the size of government, to a level less than its current 30% to 40% of our economy and stop the diversion of dollars out of the working society and into the support of TAX CONSUMING agencies that produce absolutely nothing of economic value, nothing will change. Obongo will continue to spend BORROWED money faster than the piles of cocaine he used to snort with his Chicago home boys as a community organizer, and our debt will continue to grow at a massive rate. Arrogant cocksucker that he is.
Government at all levels in it's current state is a parasitic drain on our society, but the people in government have created in what they see as the "business" of government, a way to produce nothing and get paid well for it, and then walk the fuck away when the shit goes sideways, and with a fuck load of money in the process.
Get government the fuck out of private business's way and something might change, but the business world right now is so afraid of what Obongo and government of any level is going to come up with next to fuck with business, that any level of risk or speculation on business development, (and with it jobs, economic growth, etc)is not happening in the short term.

Re: Obama, Apathy and the Future
Obama was supported by a shit-ton of folks that had no understanding of what he would face as president. Myself, I supported (and still support) Obama...but I certainly got a sickening feeling in the days leading up to the election, when it was clear that these folks were building up some historically vast expectations for him. I think some of the black folks who entered the political process for the first time actually expected him to knock on their shanty and offer them a handful of cash. Similarly, a lot of the ultra left folks expected him to show up in support at their protests on a flying carpet.
Surprise surprise, none of that ended up being possible.
But...since we're a bit savvier here, what exactly do you think would have been different if McCain had won? Ron Paul? Anyone you can name that was in the field?

For one BIG thing, if Ron Paul had won we wouldn't be 3 trillion deeper in debt and we wouldn't be trotting out HUGE future deficit budget proposals.PSU wrote:But...since we're a bit savvier here, what exactly do you think would have been different if McCain had won? Ron Paul?
We would have a president who is TRYING to show fiscal sanity.
And we wouldn't have an insane government health bill (with ZERO support from one entire party) jammed down the throat of Americans who are, by a solid majority, AGAINST it.
There is a WHOLE hell of a lot more.
Look at Paul's platform and you'll find very little similarity Barry's agenda.
Re: Obama, Apathy and the Future
If the GOP doesn't like something it is probably a good idea so that's not much of an argument.poptart wrote: And we wouldn't have an insane government health bill (with ZERO support from one entire party)
Many of whom what to keep the government out of there Medicare so I'll take that with a grain of salt.jammed down the throat of Americans who are, by a solid majority, AGAINST it.
I know you don't like helping people out (Christers rarely do even as they say they love to do help) but it would be nice you at least acted like you care from time to time.
Re: Obama, Apathy and the Future
Do you honestly believe that, Counselor, or are you simply talking out of your ass again?Moving Sale wrote:I know you don't like helping people out (Christers rarely do even as they say they love to do help) but it would be nice you at least acted like you care from time to time.
Here’s guessing that a quick search of your local Yellow Pages would find a whole buncha hospitals listed with the words “St.”, “San”, or “Saint” included in their names, as well as words such as “Menorah” or “Sinai”.
One could also mention those religious organizations specifically structured to help society’s weakest members, including your local City Union Mission, the Salvation Army, and other charitable religious groups that help feed, house, and clothe those who are less fortunate in our society.
And how do you discount the endless armadas of ships and tractor-trailers filled with food-stuffs and other necessities sent to places of need that were collected as the result of food drives conducted by houses of worship all across this country? Not to mention the billions in cash raised in special offerings to assist those who fell victim to likes of tsunamis, hurricanes, and erf-quakes?
If it weren’t for the caring of “Christers” and other religions organizations; if such groups failed to even exist, then who would pick up the slack? Benevolent atheist societies? Asshat.

Maybe the local Islamic Charity Society ?Truman wrote:

Probably? We're supposed to spend trillions on something that is PROBABLY a good idea? Of course nobody knows if it's a good idea or not because nobody knows what's in it least of all the dumbfucks in Congress who voted for it.Moving Sale wrote: If the GOP doesn't like something it is probably a good idea so that's not much of an argument.

Sure they like to nibble around the edges. So fucking what? I'm talking about actual structural help. Most of them are against anything that will actually help.Truman wrote:One could also mention those religious organizations specifically structured to help society’s weakest members, including your local City Union Mission, the Salvation Army, and other charitable religious groups that help feed, house, and clothe those who are less fortunate in our society.

Re: Obama, Apathy and the Future
I voted for Obama. But I also voted for Gore in 2000 and Kerry in 2004. If either of those two had won there would be no President Obama for the haters to fear and bitch about.
But alas too many of you were too smitten with the notion of a folksy Born Again Christer Blueblood in 2000, and too paranoid and angry about Muslim terrorists (Who generally don't attack "red" states with the same vigor they target the "blue" ones) and gays (I'm talking about you, Ohio) in 2004.
