Heading to Ann Arbor in October

Post by Mace »

I'll be attending the Iowa-Michigan game this fall and could use a little help from Michigan fan. I've been told that there is parking on a golf course across the street from the stadium...true? Our group will likely arrive on Friday, so I could use a tip or two regarding good spots in AA for eating/drinking. Any help would be appreciated. We don't have tickets yet but I'm going to visit StubHub in the next couple of days unless someone has a better idea for securing tickets. We'll have 5-7 people in the group. Thanks.

There's parking on the golf course, as well as at the local high school. As for good spots, the Seafood Company is a good restaurant, and Connor O'Neils is a great Irish Bar that doesn't attract too much of the college crowd.

Thanks, Killian. At my age, I'm not looking for a college bar.

there's a Connor O'Neils in Boulder, too. it's a good bar. it's not a "chain", there are just the two. AA and Boulder.

Mace,

You'll have a great time here in Ann Arbor. Killian makes some good suggestions.

Other good food options:

Palio's (good Italian)
Chop House (high end steak)
Gratzi - French - Italian $20 entrees
Grizzly Peak - Good local place
Jolly Pumpkin Brewery - good beer..good times

Also...if you're friends want to stop by our tailgate shoot me a private message.
Those who stay will be champions.

it attracts wall-to-wall middling corporate data managers instead. i hope you don't wear your phone on your belt because you won't have enough elbow room to reach it if anyone calls.

try scorekeeper's instead. it's this back alley hole-in-the-wall sports bar. good vibes, really good beer. only the locals seem to know about it.

Thanks, BlindRef, and thanks to everyone else for the suggestions. Looking forward to the trip and I'm sure it will be a blast. Thanks for the invite, but I'm not sure about our tailgating plans at this point. I'll shoot you a PM at a later date. Thanks.

JON may be at the game, but he isn't traveling in our group. My group includes a couple of high school principals, a Juvenile Court Probation Officer, a social worker, me and my son....none of whom are theJON.

As for the m2 type PET, I'll start googling pics and get one started.

all those spots blind mentioned are about five feet from each other, so easy to find. if you want specifically ann arbor fare then maybe blimpy burger? or zingerman's if you like a 45 minute wait for a $15 sandwich. supposedly they're worth it, but what else are you supposed to say after going through all that hassle just to get a sandwich?

you should pass by the old leopold's just to see if psu is still passed-out drunk on their front steps. otherwise, i'm not lying about connor o'neil's. there won't be any room and you'll have to wait in line for half an hour just to buy a $10 guinness. you're from iowa and non-descript, so the one waitress isn't going to notice you. howl at the moon's is only a couple blocks down from there, though brewpubs are probably the better stop.

if you did happen to have the noj in tow then i'd suggest bw3's. awesome wings and great atmosphere. there's also a chi-chi's near the i-94 that has the best nachos you'll ever have. and there are these dope pizza shops all over, called little caesar's. you should get a hot-and-ready or two so the tigers will have some money to spend in free agency.

What's the name of the bar with like 400 different bars? That was my favorite place to go when I was up there.

Fat fingers, I meant beers. No, not down there. I feel like it was closer to campus, hole in the wall, maybe on the same street as the union? Use to go there all the time with my ex-girlfriend.

oh, ashley's. was going to suggest that place as well. a bit close to campus as far as chancing the dumbfuck students, but the place pretty much prices the popped-collar crowd out so safe bet aside from the limited seating.

was wondering why you mentioned that place near the blind pig after saying connor o'neil's was a good way to avoid the college crowd.

Got my tickets today. Four in corner section 7, row 13, and two tickets in section 4, row 10. Can you guys that know the stadium tell me if these are decent tickets?

All of them are better than any tickets you're getting to the Iowa-UW game. At least you'll get to see a Hawkeye victory.

For about six years my seats were in section 5 but 25 rows or so higher. You are pretty low but you'll love the seats when the action is on your side of the field. Like most stadiums the near sideline will be obscured by the team on that side of the field (in this case the Iowa sideline). Sit the section 4 seats as they are in the area of the 5 yard line. You will be in the opposite corner from the student section in an area I know very well. Some of the pre-Schembechler alums are here, very hospitable to opposing fans and very knowledgeable about the history of not only Michigan but the Big10 as well. There will be someone within 10 feet of you that has seen 30 UM-Iowa games at the Big House. I'll know more after saturday, but way down there used to be the area where you didn't drink much as a trip to the head would take most of a quarter (the renovations included many more used beer receptacles). It's my belief that there isn't a bad seat in the house.

at least homeboy will get relay to us whether or not michigan stadium's any louder than it used to be. supposedly the new structures make the place 10 dB louder, and from what i understand sound increases exponentially from dB to dB. just make sure to get there on time for an accurate reading, place will be quiet after the 2nd when we're down 21-0.
