The "Early Kicks"

Post by Shoalzie »

Watching MSU-WMU on ESPN2 to start and will probably flip over to FSN to catch Missouri-Illinois in a few when they kick at 12:30. The game I care about (or dread) doesn't start for a few hours. It's so great to have Gameday back on to start your Saturday and to be watching some BTPCF beginning at high noon!

State scores quickly on the short field after a bad punt but it looks like Western has settled down. Of course, when they were driving towards State's end, they put the ball on the carpet. Cousins throwing has been a bit erratic.

Western gets a break on special teams themselves..with a half-dozen of the guys in the other color bearing down on you and trying to field a bouncing punt, probably wise to just let that one roll and not go Roger Dorn matador-style on it. Broncos in prime scoring position to tie the game. Always go against State in MAC openers against the number!

A very plodding, mistake-filled opener in East Lansing...not impressed with Sparty so far but Nichol looks pretty good as a receiver. It's kind of pathetic that he appears to have the best hands on the team.

When did Brian Griese start working as an analyst? He sounds so much like his old man (duh?) but he seems like a natural for the job. Cool to hear a Griese on the call of a Big Ten game again. Good debut if this is his first game...I don't remember him last year. Anyone know which game Spielman is doing?

Great run defense displayed there by WMU.

Yeah, both of Baker's touchdown runs would've been scoring plays in your backyard game of 2-hand touch.

Typical game 1, first half rustiness. They've kicked it into gear now.

Stanzi goes down...

If Stanzi is done for the season Iowa could run away with the conference. Not good.

That's the only eyebrow-raising storyline so far today.

I just noticed Spiels is doing the Florida game because every time I'd flip over, I'd always hear the elder Griese blabbing on. There's no reason to watch that although I do want to see what a "real QB" does for the Gators.

Illinois is giving Missouri fits with their new QB.

The best games on the schedule are later in the day...these have been meh as appetizers.

Iowa is looking okay against a team they're supposed to beat badly. Robinson looking good at RB as is Stanzi is throwing the ball.

I see Illinois is leading Mizzou 10-3. The Illini might be slightly improved but they'll still finish at, or near, the bottom of the league. Missouri doesn't look good.

Did I just read that right? UF had 13 yds of total offense in the 1st half?

Yep. I'm watching that game and it is UHHHGLY.

Jenkins is a badass CB though. You can't throw to his side.

They could have the makings of a solid running attack this year...even without Caper today.

State is bullying Western with the ground game. So much for thinking they wouldn't cover this 3 TD spread...they're getting their crap together and making this a laugher now.

Florida has about 10 fumbled shotgun snaps thus far. It's been fun watching this adventure between center and qb.

They're lucky to be playing an awful team like the Redhawks because a typical SEC team would probably be on top of them right now with all the sloppy play. They'll prevail but this is far from a masterpiece.

Florida is going to have to play better than this once their real schedule starts.

Illinois seems to have made an upgrade at QB... they don't look great, but better than the inept lot they're playing.

Could be a long year for Mizzou.

Afternoon looks better -- RACK being in the Pacific time zone. Games starting at 9 doesn't suck.

I'll watch the Oregon highlight reel on every possession game, and do some channel surfing.

So far so good in the Pick'Em... which won't last for more than another couple of ours, I'm sure... but I started hot until halftime of the first games in Week 1... and they can't take that from me.

The center, Pouncey, is a senior...I'd assume he didn't get a lot of experience with the shotgun while Tebow Christ Superstar was there or something. That's comical how bad their snaps have been today. I thought the opening game under RichRod where Threat and Sheridan had trouble taking snaps in the spread looked awful.

I didn't think Caper was the best back heading into the game, now it appears he may not even be the 2nd best.

No way...get that garbage score, Broncos! Of course Cubit has the backup in now.

EDIT--Shit...running on 4th down and Carder with a terrible pass when the Broncos were driving for a TD on the last series. That's an L! :x

Oregon in a bloodletting.

59-0 half.

Every player not wearing a red shirt is getting in this one... I think the mascot lined up under center.

New Mexico's QB isn't playing that badly, and their center/guards are OK... their OT's are just getting killed, and the receivers can't catch.

CSU is awful this year. even though i sorta like their coach, Larry Fairchild. i think AngryMike and I are the only ones to take CU in the pickem.

Nope. In. Read the scouting report on CSU this morning before making my pick. I"ll take a Junior QB and his team to cover over a True Freshman making his First Start Ever most any day.

Houston didn't quite live up to that billing, but 55-7 at halftime lead was good enough I guess.

Keenum was pulled after the half with only 5 TD passes. What a shame.

Things are uh changin' here at Cougar High. FBS schools would usually draw a modest crowd of 20,000 or so. Record crowd tonight for Texas State? Nice little side story there.

Houston could see sell outs for the entire season which would be a nice change.

Oregon's backup RB, Kenjon Barner (who'd start for a whole buncha teams) had 5 tuddies and 207 yards... so he took the 2nd half off.

But Tennessee took batting practice as well, so I hope the Ducks don't get too cocky going into next week.

That's because that Pouncey was a guard for 3 years.

They won't get away with that pitch sweep to Demps this weekend. No Tebow = no running between the tackles apparently.
