From his recruiting bio:
After a successful senior season, where he led his team to the Division I championship with a victory over De La Salle, Martinez racked up awards. He was the team, league, and division MVP as a senior and California player-of-the-year according to The Press-Enterprise. The Los Angeles Times and MaxPreps also gave him player-of-the-year honors. When he committed in late August of this past year, Martinez told Rivals.com that Nebraska was "recruiting me as an athlete."

but would you prefer blaine gabbert?

Not for were NU is heading with a zone read attack. A running quarterback is a must. The whole idea Pelini has stressed to Shawn Watson is he feels the toughest offenses to defense is 11 on 11. Thus let the QB read the linebackers at the line of scrimmage and keep or give off that action. Make the QB be a treat to the backers. This kid was nails with his reads for his first start. Zac Lee (last years starter and a senior) is a spectator because he isn't in the same galaxy when it comes to running as Martinez.

If NU was still a West coast offense, I'd take Gabbert in a New York minute.

Dear fucking god... "were" isn't a destination, and at no point in the history of the English language has "defense" ever been a verb.

You might even want to brush up on the use of "is" and "are." I mean, it's only 5 letters between them... shouldn't be too tough.

Don't get me wrong -- I'm not big on running spelling/grammar smack in CFB, and even in CDS it's rarely warranted...

But egads, man. Act like Nebraska is at least remotely familiar with the Three R's.

Why is it always fans of the schools we laugh at for being mouthbreathing inbreds that do this shit?

The "were" was a typo, mostly because, I don't type. Where's an "H" when you need one? Aw there it is right between the "G" and the "J". Who knew? (Why does the letter "H" require (an) as an indefinite article when it's not a vowel? Just because it sounds like a vowel? That's bullshit.)

You are correct with defend as the proper choice and offenses being plural. Ya know ( o.k. You know) it may just be me, but it seems "defense" is used as a verb (improperly I might add) in today's football vernacular from time to time.

"Coach, how are you going to defense that BTPCF cornfed smashmouth offense when your players leave food on their plates with those girlish little hands?" Defend would be proper, but hasn't anyone heard a phase similar using defense as a verb?

All the time -- hence my ill-tempered tirade, since it gets my goat stuck in my craw.
