Well here's a box score of how the contagion spread within the Roman empire. Not detailed in the list are the ending of the Olympic Games in 382 by Theodosious, and more importantly the closing of the Academy of Plato in 529 by Justinian. And this insane purging of the true foundation of Western culture extended far and wide, its apocalyptic creed giving no consideration whatever for science or the earth itself. It was and remains a hysterical and utterly cowardly abdication. And this same lunacy--like a resistant virus--is back with us now. Look at the Creationist dinosaur exhibits, listen to any Tea bagger. And remember that regardless of how we interpret the history of Europe and the Christer cult, the plain fact remains that the Roman empire proceeded in a direct and uninterrupted line of decay and demise after it adapted the Christer cult as the official state religion.

WRONG.LTS TRN 2 wrote:As for the value of Islam, at least it saved whatever we properly base our claim of "civilized" upon. That is, without the (partially) restored classics of Greece--including the literature, philosophy, science and math--by the Muslims (Shiite, btw, in Persia)--which were then translated by Jews in Toledo, Spain...there never would have been a Renaissance of Europe.
Classical knowledge in Europe was preserved by the Catholic Church and was promulgated by the university system which was also an innovation of the Church.
It didn't have jack shit to do with Muslims.

Actually, the "plain fact" is that the Roman Empire was already circling the drain (in the West anyway) before Constantine adopted Chrisitianity. As a point of "plain fact," the adoption of Christianity itself was a symptom of that decline and disintigration.LTS TRN 2 wrote:...the plain fact remains that the Roman empire proceeded in a direct and uninterrupted line of decay and demise after it adapted the Christer cult as the official state religion.
Your ignorance and stupidity are almost painful to observe.

Re: Ground Zero Mosque? (Part II)
Avi, I can see you're losing it. I mean, what's next, no fresh water problems?....oh..yeah
Anyways, you pathetic hack, let me bounce you around like a little ball a bit..
By the 1100's, translations of Arabic texts were making their way from Muslim Spain into European universities. These Arab texts stimulated the growth of Western science, which is the dominant scientific tradition today. We should never lose sight of the fact that our own science today rests squarely on the accomplishments of Muslim science, which, as a result, is still very much alive.
There is no dispute here. This is historical fact.
What's left to be inferred is the ghastly fact that the Christer cult was still entrenched at that point in a world-hating, science-hating apocalyptic fever of ignorance and death. Ever read The Name Of The Rose? There were no Jesuit institutions of scientific education at all until the translations started appearing. The Renaissance starts exactly when the science and philosophy of the Greeks is returned to Europe by way of the Muslims and the Jewish translators.
The Islamic world was at a far higher level of development than the Christer nightmare had achieved at that time--by a factor of about 8,000. Like any affluent culture, however, it got soft--and attacked from the Turks, the barbarian crusaders in the West and the barbaric horde of the Khan from the East. But it doesn't in any way negate the success of its amazing development, or our incalculable debt to their spirit of industry and respect for science.
Compare that to the average bleating angry Christer you see.

Did the Church forget how to speak Latin and Greek or something?
Jesus Christ, you're one dumb fuck.

Re: Ground Zero Mosque? (Part II)
No, but the learning of Latin was so that lunatics like Augustine could be read and digested. That is, whatever scant education there was in Europe before the return of the Arab translations was strictly ecclesiastical, not scientific at all.
Our entire Western scientific culture is entirely based on the fact of the Islamic world--Arabs--preserving it and returning it. Which is infinitely more than any Christer would have done--or wants to do!

I saw LTard's post and thought nobody sane will believe it. Gotta be a troll/intern that works for a professor at some university.mvscal wrote:WRONG.LTS TRN 2 wrote:As for the value of Islam, at least it saved whatever we properly base our claim of "civilized" upon. Flat out lies and fabrications from this POS LTard tells me he is a troll and/or needs to be shot like this:

And...you're prepared to dispute exactly which basic fact of history? C'mon, step up, I'll pound you just like Avi. And he looks like a prepared abalone right about now.
You're in the same denial as the capitalist running dog police assassin in the famous pic.

Wrong...again. You do realise the Byzantine Empire, the Greek speaking eastern portion of the Roman Empire, survived until the mid fifteenth century before they were finally destroyed by Muslims, right?
They were the source of the 12th century renaissance. They were also the source of the Italian renaissance when Greeks fleeing the final destruction of the Byzantine Empire migrated to Italy.
Arabs were borrowers both from Greeks and Hindus.

[edited for TO's reading]
Who cares? Arguing politics is a waste of time... same with religion... I hope some of you die and burn in Hell. That's all that interests me. If LTard ad Turdducken are former Vent members then I'll back off you 2 clowns. Already found 2 others from back in the day.
Read Marty's posts back in a thread I've found and tell me that's not the funniest thing ever. Same with Phibes in the same thread. That reminds me of a certain clown in a northeastern state that used to troll under female names.
Good times!

Ready to bounce? Here we go...mvscal wrote:LTS TRN 2 wrote:...whatever scant education there was in Europe before the return of the Arab translations was strictly ecclesiastical, not scientific at all.

Arabs were borrowers both from Greeks and Hindus.
After the sixth century Byzantine scholars made few novel contributions to science in terms of developing new theories or extending the ideas of classical authors. Scholarship particularly lagged during the dark years of plague and the Arab conquests, but then during the so-called Byzantine Renaissance. At the end of the first millennium Byzantine scholars re-asserted themselves becoming experts in the scientific developments of the Arabs and Persians, particularly in astronomy and mathematics
It was of course the Arabs to whom we are completely indebted. Of course this is a cruel irony given how far the Arab cultures have fallen--and the galling insult of the thin crust of disgusting oil-rich sheiks, etc.
What you're desperately avoiding to face is the fact of the Christer cult's essential historical and current aversion to science and reason. Just look at Palin. Or the Koran-burning pastor.
Just look and face the facts.
