Sooner fans...
I read that your longtime play-by-play guy is retiring after this season. Jim Ross floated it out there on his blog that he'd be interested in the job if it was offered to him. What would you guys think of Good Ol' JR calling Sooner games? Personally, I think it would be sweet, but I'm a pretty big rasslin' mark. I seem to remember him being pretty decent on the handful of XFL games I watched. There's definitely no questioning his loyalty to OU. I'd probably tune in to Sirius to check it out.

Re: Sooner fans...
not a huge wrasslin' fan but whatever if it's JR. Bob Carpenter is another name to replace the great, "caught, no dropped for a first down" and "the Sooners are in a man to man or some kind of zone defense" Bob Barry Sr. For a time, Chuck Cooperstein was the choice to replace BB. One of the great radio hoops tandems of all time was Chuck Cooperstein and former Bama coach Wimp Sanderson.MiketheangrydrunkenCUfan wrote:I read that your longtime play-by-play guy is retiring after this season. Now, i'm of the Sooner era where Bob Senior did the O State games and Sooner radio was Mike Brooks and John Treps. "Jimmmminy Christmas" when a Switzer era RB would bust a long one out of the wishbone. Treps still does Sooner baseball (CWS last year, yo)....but BB has been at OU since the 50's I think. helluva nice guy, too.

Re: Sooner fans...
i've been waiting for Bob Barry to retire for about 10 years now. 4-5 years ago he was talking about retiring ...just got our hopes up.
i just want someone who i can understand AND can keep up with what's going on on the field. BB could do NEITHER. Basketball games were/are 10 times worse.

Re: Sooner fans...
Bob lost his wife to cancer in 2002, and i don't think anyone at OU had the balls to fire him after that. really.
anyway, Mike, OU stole the tune for Boomer Sooner from Yale....the lyrics we stole from North Carolina. and nothing is more annoying than UT's trombone song. So, you like to get tromboned....we get it horns.

I don't know who will replace him but this came a decade too late...

Are you really trying to imply that football hasn't been too fast for him since the mid 90s?King Crimson wrote:basketball does move a little too fast for Bob.Moby Dick wrote: Basketball games were/are 10 times worse.

Re: Sooner fans...
Bob wasn't my area of concern in the mid 90s. throwing beer cans and shit around the condo after Tulsa scored on 99 yard plays.....more pressing. amazingly, you can get KOMA in Boulder. life on 15th street, that takes me back......just 3 blocks from the Jon Benet Ramsey house.SunCoastSooner wrote: Are you really trying to imply that football hasn't been too fast for him since the mid 90s?
