Who is going to be the first WolverineFan to "go there" on Dantonio? :hfal:

I don't know what to think of the game yet but it's pretty much a given that Shoelace will have 150 yards rushing and get knocked out of the game at least once...it's what he does.

of all the stones to throw... michigan plays one ooc away game every two years. probably not going to change much going forward considering the stadium renovations that still need to be paid for.

someone's going to win this game 50-49. i'll say michigan just because (1) it's a home game and (2) denard is a video game character.

MSU has played a pretty typical bend-don't-break style of D, and has done a good job of limiting the big play. Of course, Robinson breaks big plays with amazing regularity. Still, UM hasn't really faced a competent rush defense yet, so it'll be interesting to see how much, if at all, Robinson can be contained. I'm not sure he'll go for a zilly yards, but he'll get his. I can't see UM doing too much to stop MSU's balanced attack, and I think MSU will get the stops it needs on defense. I'm confident the coaching staff will put together a game plan which will stop Shoelace just enough to eek out a W.

offensive coaches, maybe. your best defense will be to score 100 points, which could actually happen. michigan's also been good at preventing the big play, they just can't keep the other team from picking up first downs, which is the complete reverse of last year when they had a decent defense aside from the four big plays they'd give up every game. we're expecting the horrible defense and kicking to bite us in the ass eventually; hopefully it doesn't happen this week.

you guys are getting denard at a bad time: mid-season form and not injured yet. look how much better he got just from working out and studying film; now he has five games' experience. bring that rush all you want and we'll take our chances with roundtree, odoms, and hemingway running through all that single coverage.

Let's not forget UM had a worse defense last year and coulda, shoulda, woulda, won the game in EL.

Michigan has to get to the qb with just the d-line to slow down States passing attack. If Martin and Roh can pressure and hurry some throws, minimizing the coverage time for the lb's and db's, State may punt a couple times. I like the year Mouton is having at LB and am thrilled that Ezeh will run out of eligibility after this season. Cam Gordon looks to be a hard hitting safety (just switched to the d in camp) and the wet behind the ears cb's are bound to catch on at some point.

On offense, I love where we are. Hell Tate had em on the ropes last year. It seems that three years of recruiting speedbacks, and slot guys have paid off in the form of serious depth. I can't wait til RR focuses on recruiting defenders and kickers, but I digress. It seems that the game has slowed down for Denard. Take away the run, cool, he can fling it. Drop into coverage, he'll shred you with his legs. Hand it to the rb's just enough to keep you honest. Shaw and Touissant injured, ok choke on Cox and Smith. The speed cupboard is fully stocked.

This game will be a shootout, as will the rest of the games. It will take 40+, maybe 50 to win this one. If it goes to OT it could take 70.

You mean the Irish Guard? I think it would be funny to see you call them a fag to their face.

Most schools have traditions. Being a fan of a directional school, I can see why you fail to grasp this concept. Of course, we don't know if you are a fan of your school. You rarely, if ever, post about them and only come into this forum to pull hair and talk shit about other schools. Hell, it's even in your name.

I don't really know what that will have to do with next Saturday, but I would add that MSU also had a worse defense last year, and almost no running game to speak of. They're currently one win away from tying their total from last year. Let's say both teams are improved, you guys have just done it primarily with one guy.

This is an uninformed statement. There is depth in all phases of the offense now with another year in the system. Th o-line is gelling, where they were a young clueless unit for the first two years of the regime. Backs and wr's everywhere that can freaking fly.

The defense is slightly improved and the game is in AA. I like UM's chances. I thought they had no shot last year yet had a chance to win in OT.

As a casual observer (even thought I will go with Sparty on this one)...it will be nice to see DUHnard go against a defense ranked somewhere below that 100 or so line...you know real LB's (Sup GREG JONES) and such...

just sayin

This game is a race to 50. This isn't an original thought, but the team who has the ball last probably wins.

The swagger of Michigan's offense is unreal.

I think Michigan sneaks another one out.

49-42.

I'll take MSU in this one simply because they have something Michigan doesn't have....a defense. MSU's best defense might also be ball control on offense and keeping Robinson off the field. I'm guessing that MSU will have Greg Jones spying on Shoelace and am anxious to see if Robinson will be able to get off the turf by the second half.

MSU's D is still a little suspect, particularly the pass D, but I think they'll be capable of getting the stops they need. I don't see this game as being quite as high scoring as most do. I predict somewhat of a slow and sloppy 1st quarter as both teams will probably come in a little too amped.

Jones on Shoelace will be a great one-on-one to watch but I think the Michigan offensive line vs. the State defensive line will be huge. Shoelace is fast and elusive but he's been getting room to maneuver. If the improved Michigan o-line can win the battle in the trenches and allow Shoelace to continue to penetrate to the second and third layers of the opposing defense as well and give him time to throw, it could be a rough day for Sparty. State was shredded against Crist and the Irish a couple weeks ago...if Shoelace gets time to run as well as throw, he can put up another one of those 400-500 total yard games again.

Conversely, I think State need to play boring ass traditional Big Ten football and run the hell out of the ball and control the clock and avoid penalties and turnovers. Cousins has some good targets to throw to and I think he could have a solid against the weak Michigan secondary but it'll be their ground game that could control the game and keep Shoelace off the field in the process. Michigan has been able to run their offense at slow and fast speeds and they've shown they can control the time of possession if needed. If State can put together something longer, clock-draining series early and keep Shoelace and crew from getting into a rhythm, I think State can pull this one off. I think it's been true for most games in this series...the team that wins the ground game battle usually wins.

The Spartan defense may be "a little suspect" but Michigan's is Indiana-like. MSU will win this game if their offense can control the ball and T.O.P.

State's d slowing down UM will help even out the TOP. Vs IU they scored too quickly (not complaining) and the d was on the field all day.

not equating indiana's defense with msu's necessarily, but t.o.p. in the iu game was indiana 42 to michigan's 18.

on the bright side, not being able to get off the field means the young michigan defense gets more experience than they would otherwise.

I don't really care how long MSU has the ball, as long as the punter stays off the field. Minny is 2nd in the nation in TOP, so I don't know how valuable that stat is.

It's a meaningless stat if you're giving up big plays like Minnesota or Indiana, but it's a huge stat if you're maintaining possession and scoring on long drives and your defense isn't giving up quick points.....as I think MSU will do with Michigan.

lol. while this one is clearly sarcastic, brings up a point i've been thinking about....the shameless homer post-game youtube. where all the other team's 88 yard passing TD's are eliminated and 7 yard runs by the home team or a deflected pass by one the good guy's DBs are celebrated with some cookie cutter rap metal....is funny in a game where the score is 35-31....the other team's score magically appears in the screen graphic from 0 to 28 to 31. interesting genre of digital "art".
