entertaining game. UGA did puke all over themselves.

Re: Guess UGA Backing Out
Fuck yeah! That was the first CU game I've actually enjoyed watching in close to two years. I'm not gonna pound my chest too much about beating a one-win UGA team at home, but it was nice to see the Buffs not look completely inept for a change. The 1990 MNC team was there for a halftime presentation. Don't look now, but these Buffs are off to a better start than that team. Haha.

Re: Guess UGA Backing Out
I was wondering the same thing. I mean, it was a mild upset (at least by Vegas' standards), but not exactly bum-rush-the-field-worthy. I think most CU fans had probably already penciled this one in as a loss before the season even started, so maybe they just decided to conveniently ignore that UGA turned out to be nowhere near the team that anyone expected them to be this year, with or without AJ Green.Papa Willie wrote:Curious, though. Why in the fuck would Colorado's fans storm the field after winning a game against a really shitty UGA team? That was weird. Do they just do that after every game?

Re: Guess UGA Backing Out
i thought Hawkins' decision to attempt the 52 yarder at the end was a bit iffy. Goodman is not known for his accuracy....and you miss (which he does) you give UGA needing only 3 first downs to be in the Lou Groza Trophy winner's range. make em go the length of the field, not give them a short one.
also, the camera work on the CU 2 point conversion out of the wacky formation was horrible (in addition to some other low budget whiffs on the part of the cameras). they didn't even try and show it again. way to go FSN.

Way to silence the "SEC!" post-game chants, Buffs!

Yeah, the 52-yard FG attempt was a typical Hawkins WTF moment. I was expecting the fake, but a punt would've been the best call.King Crimson wrote:i thought Hawkins' decision to attempt the 52 yarder at the end was a bit iffy. I forget which game I was watching (I think it might've been the blowout to Cal), but before the game, the announcers were hyping something called the DactylCam. I was like "Fucking great, we're going to miss at least one play in this game because they're gonna want to show off that stupid camera." You see the retarded camera angles in the NBA sometimes too. It's infuriating. Don't try to get cute, just give us the same angle that's been working just fine for the past 30-40 years. Save the goddamn DactylCam for the replay...

Predictably, the sports writers were saying that beating Georgia might have saved Hawkins' job. That would be a tragedy.

Is it just me, or does the SEC East blow goats?
Definitely not the norm for that division.

Re: Guess UGA Backing Out
an L may have cost him his job but i don't think the W saves his job. he's got a lot of work left to do with a tough stretch coming up @Mizzou (who has assfucked Hawkins into the next decade the last 3 years), allegedly rejuvenated Baylor, Tech and @OU. BU and Tech are simply must wins if CU is going to be bowl eligible (and exactly the kinds of game Hawk has lost over the years....teams of equal or lesser talent but the CU staff brainfarts their way to the L). Hawkins hasnt won on the road since 07 I think. So, they have to hold serve at home on a pretty favorable home slate. Even though many fans are hoping it's "8" wins, I put Hawk's magic number at 7....maybe even 6 and a minor bowl win.Cuda wrote:Predictably, the sports writers were saying that beating Georgia might have saved Hawkins' job. Re: Guess UGA Backing Out
Fortunately, I see no more than 5 wins for Hawkins. They probably beat Baylor and possibly K-State, although I wouldn't bet on that. If they do beat Baylor, I don't see them winning the next week against Taco Tech too. Mizzou and Oklahoma are going to be ass-rapings. And the last-ever rivalry game against the Corn willl be a beating of Fairbanksian proportion.King Crimson wrote:an L may have cost him his job but i don't think the W saves his job. he's got a lot of work left to do with a tough stretch coming up @Mizzou (who has assfucked Hawkins into the next decade the last 3 years), allegedly rejuvenated Baylor, Tech and @OU. Ideally, they'd be 0-4 right now and Baylor would be Hawkins' last game no matter what.

Sam, you have no idea...
Usually, I'll root for the Buffs the way KC Paul roots for the Chefs. But Hawkins has wrought the same kind of havoc on the football program that Chuck Fairbanks did 30 years ago. The only thing he hasn't done (yet) is bring back the sky-blue jerseys.
The only hope that program has is to get rid of that asshole ASAP.

Re: Guess UGA Backing Out
Cuda is right, Sam. Hawkins has not only been a horrible coach (16-33 heading into this year) but has repeatedly made a fool of himself in local media with his oddball arrogance and ridiculous post-game comments. his team, thus far, has been so poorly prepared for some games (Cal this year, Mizzou the last 3) it's almost impossible to describe. He came in supposedly toting this bad-ass "Boise playbook" that he talked about endlessly.....and they haven't run the same offense in any of the last 5 years and finished last in the conference in total O at least the last two years. it's all smoke and goofy theories of life and football with Hawk. now, there is some talent on this team and they play decently in stretches....but, Hawkins is lucky to be coaching this year at CU. they've been worse than John Blake bad at times. can't even line up and run their plays. pure incompetence. at Cal, they have a first and goal....get 30+ yards of penalties on successive downs (false start, illegal formation, delay of game etc). simple execution.....and miss a 47 yard FG. they come out of timeouts and get called for delay of game, repeatedly. have 3rd and 2 and have OL guys jump offside on *their own* hard count. that kind of stuff. there's more than a handful of games he's coached where CU is *completely* out of the game when the 2nd quarter starts. mentally, and on the scoreboard.
Bill Snyder coaches this team they win 7-8 games, easy.

Re: Guess UGA Backing Out
Wasn't Miles an assistant coach at CU at some point?

Re: Guess UGA Backing Out
he was a McCartney asst for 2 or 3 years in the early mid 80's (he was gone by the 89-94 run of top 5 CU teams)....might have come from UM to CU with BMcC.Cuda wrote:Wasn't Miles an assistant coach at CU at some point?
edit: Wiki says CU 82-86, then back to UM....and, i didn't know this: followed former CU asst Bob Simmons to Ok State in 95 (when Simmons was McCartney's choice to succeed him at Colorado but Neuheisel got the job).
if it were me, i think Miles is a bad fit in Boulder in addition to being a bad hire. i have OSU family and they all breathed a sigh of relief when Les left Stillwater. first thing Gundy did was run of some of Miles' thugs and bad actors. but, CU fan is in a "back to McCartney" mind set and who knows? "Back to the past" usually leads to a crap hire and CU *already* went back to Coach Mac with Barnett...so, bad move IMO. big time programs win under different coaches, not recycling the past.
