Barners parents were in Pullman, WA
When Kenjon Barner was injured in yesterdays game between Washington State and Oregon his parents quicky rushed to his side. Good thing that his parents were there for their son but has anyone in Oregons compliance department investigated how it was the Barners got to Pullman? The Barners live in Riverside, Ca, some 1200 miles away from Pullman, for both his mom and dad to get there they would have had to have paid about 1,000 dollars for the flight tickets, rental car and hotel. If that was the only game that they went to, thats a huge coincidence that it was the game he was hurt at. There are 2, maybe 3 games on Oregons schedule that are within a day trip from Riverside, Ca... Oregon and ASU which means that if they were to go to the other games, that is about 12,000 dollars in travel to see their son play this seasons regular schedule.
When the NCAA was unable to prove that USC did anything wrong with Reggie Bush they then turned to what USC didnt do. USC was accused of not investigating how the Griffens showed up at 4 games during Reggies junior year. The NCAA felt that the school should be that evasive in to a parents business that they would question a family that traveled more than a "day trip" to watch their son play a game for the University.
So is Oregons compliance department investigating how the Barners as well as any other players family is getting to all of these games, if not is the NCAA or Pac 10 investigating Oregons compliance department for lack of institutional control? The standards that the NCAA held USC have to be the standards that every other school has to be held to.

Good call, dildo. There aren't any sites that you can use to search for low air fare. And its not like they knew about this game months ahead of time. And who's to say the didn't split a hotel or cottage with other parents?
As soon as they are living in a house with no means to pay for it, their kid is taking untold thousands, and Oregon hires an extra coach, then you'll have an apt comparison.

Parents travel to watch their son play a football game? I'm shocked.
Re: Barners parents were in Pullman, WA
According to the NCAA's report, USC lacked institutional control because they did not investigate how the Griffens traveled to 4 games.
Point is it is far too evasive for any school to investigate or ask any players parents about how they afforded a trip yet it was used against USC. if it is going to be used against the trojans, it should be used against everyone.

That was the only time "lack of institutional controll" was cited? Try again.

How do you know the school didn't investigate it and find nothing wrong?SoCalTrjn wrote:According to the NCAA's report, USC lacked institutional control because they did not investigate how the Griffens traveled to 4 games.

How do you know that everything they did wasn't above board and approved months ago?
How do you know that just because SC cheats everybody else must be doing the same thing?
Re: Barners parents were in Pullman, WA
Parents traveling to a game is the norm, not the exception. Schools are not going to investigate every family who travels to the games, only those who are doing it in violation of the rules (see USC). I have personally traveled to road games with the parents of a player (from Iowa to San Diego for the Holiday Bowl, and also to New York for the Kickoff Classic) and we split the cost of gas and motels with no financial assistance from the University of Iowa......same story for all of the other parents at the games.

Re: Barners parents were in Pullman, WA
I dont know if oregon investigated and found nothing wrong or not, I dont know if it was the only game they went to but I doubt that it was, the point is that the NCAA said USC was required to investigate how the families of their players got to every game. Just want to make sure that if USC has to do something, everyone else has to also.
Re: Barners parents were in Pullman, WA
you sound like one of those feel-good whiny parents you bitch about because they complain you run the score up. welcome to the other side, loser.SoCalTrjn wrote:I dont know if oregon investigated and found nothing wrong or not, I dont know if it was the only game they went to but I doubt that it was, the point is that the NCAA said USC was required to investigate how the families of their players got to every game. oregon probably didn't have to investigate barner's parents. you act like "investigating" is this arduous task that involves private dicks when really all it comes down to is a couple of forms players submit as a matter of routine. well, matter of routine for most programs whose coaches don't publicly complain "how are we supposed to keep track of all this shiz when our compliance department only employs one person to do so." oh, did i say coach? i meant former coach who caught the first bus out of town once he saw the ruse was up.

Hell, you seem to totally gloss over the point about the teeny weeny issue of USC already being on probation.
Give it a rest, you whiny little bitch. And I mean that with the utmost sincerity.

Re: Barners parents were in Pullman, WA
missing the point completely.
USC was punished because they did not investigate how Bushs mom and step dad traveled to 4 games Reggies junior year. At every school many parents show up for road and home games and none of the schools look in to it. It is far too evasive to question a players family on how they afforded to come see their son play, yet USC was held to a standard that had never been enforced on any other program ever.
The NCAA opened this bag of worms by holding USC to an impossible standard of parental babysitting, The Trojans have a compliance department ran and manned by ex FBI and CIA agents and I guarantee much of that is to investigate what other teams are doing
The inaccurate statements around here are funny. When Pete said there was just 1 compliance officer at the time, he was talking about over the Christmas break when Reggie inquired about the parking for a new car, a new car he did not get until March. There was no inquirry to who the car was financed by because there was no car. When there was a car in March it was not financed as it was bout for 5,000 dollars and its not east to get auto financing for such a cheap car. At the time there was one person employed by the school and the rest of the complaince department (the people who filed and filled out the forms) were students and students were on break from school.
Also the NCAA itemized the benefits that the Griffens took during Reggies time at USC, the amount of that was about 75k but you will constantly hear people say that they took millions of dollars to get Reggie to play at USC. Thats untrue, whats disturbing is when you hear it from the paid professional journalists that are supposed to be unbiased and truthful.
The 300,000 dollar number that you hear thrown around is the amount Lake was trying to blackmail Reggie for because Reggie had paid the money Michaels fronted his parents back with 100% interest when Reggie signed with another agent. lake didnt get any of that money so he tried to blackmail Reggie saying that if he was given the 300k he would shut up, without the 300k he was going to the press and the NCAA. The family never accepted anything close to 300k, and nobody at the school gave them any of that money. The school was busted because they didnt know they were given that money even though it has never been required by the NCAA to look in to a players parents finances. The NCAA made rules up to bust USC and hopefully USC will make sure that those rules apply to everyone else.

See, but here's the thing...
Oregon actually has a compliance department.
Matter of fact, a really thorough one.
Matter of fact, if a student-athlete is caught having any contact with any agent... they're gone (although apparently they should have been paying more attention to the basketball program, since Ernie was doing a great job hiding all the dirtiness from the school).
And speaking of corrupt, dirty Oregon Hoops... check THIS out, Toejam... when they newAD and coach found evidence that the previous coach had been pulling a fast one on the Compliance Department...
Are you sitting down, Toejam?
When there was a hint of impropriety... they called the PAC10 and the NCAA.
See how that works? They have a "compliance department" rather than a "compliance dude," and they found a problem, and reported it, rather than thumbing their nose at the NCAA and saying "neener neener neener."
Tends to keep a team off the suspended list... you guys should try it next time.

Nice try, douchebag.
LAX to Spokane, WA $198 /person, when booked in advance. Schedule's been out for nearly a year. And that's just me taking 30 seconds to type LAX to Spokane, WA into travelocity, not actually taking the time to research a good deal.

Re: Barners parents were in Pullman, WA
There were several relatives there.
Gas money for 4(?) adults from LA to Pullman might be $150 or so. A Motel 6 in Pullman probably costs... about $6.
It's kind of like living for free in an expensive house, only different.

Re: Barners parents were in Pullman, WA
Might be tough for so cal fans to understand just how cheap it can be to go to smaller towns. Hell, even in Eugene. When we went down to the Stanford game, we stayed at the 66 on Franklin for $45 a night. With 4 guys crashing in the room its beyond cheap. We went out early before the game, went out after the game and, due to the fact that I had a couple extra tickets to sell (which I only sold for $25 above face value) I still ended up leaving Eugene with a couple bucks more than I came into town with.Dinsdale wrote:There were several relatives there.

Shit dumb fuck maybe the parents have these things called jobs and are actually able to afford traveling to games. My buddy's son plays at NAU and he goes to all their home games. Maybe we should investigate them too.......
You're an insult to the word stupid.
Re: Barners parents were in Pullman, WA
every time you try to make a case for usc you make one against them instead. what's worse then not having much of a compliance department? chancing your compliance on a bunch of work-study students.SoCalTrjn wrote: The inaccurate statements around here are funny.
