I was really hoping that Texas would be undefeated going into this game, but nothing I can do about that. What concerns me is that Brown has never lost three in a row with Texas before (They did lose the last two regular season games once and then the bowl game).
Interesting stat: Texas is now 3-3 since selling their soul to the BCS gods.
With that said, this game is hard to gauge for me. NU beat Washington handily, who beat USC, but played horrible against South Dakota State and mediocre against Western Kentucky and Idaho. They slaughtered K-State tonight, who beat UCLA, who beat Texas.
But... NU has a few problems I'll admit.
- Fumbling the ball. Still a problem. Could come back to haunt us.
- Thin on the Defensive front. One or two injuries to a key lineman or a linebacker and we'll be in big trouble. The linebackers are already inexperienced anyway.
- Lack of consistency in the run game. Those big gashes we got against Udub and KSU won't be as plentiful against Texas.
- Inexperienced QB. He's still learning all the reads. He looked great tonight, but had a few plays where I cringed.
Our strengths lie in:
- Explosive scoring. Look at the UDub and KSU games as an example. NU can score quick when it needs to this season.
- Fresh running backs. Last year, we had a banged up Helu. Burkhead broke his foot. They've barely touched the ball so far this season. Look for them to get the ball more.
- Deep secondary. Made Jack Locker look horrible.
- Great kicking game in punting, field goals, etc.
Bo may have said that he's over last year's game, but I tend to doubt it. I'm sure he wants this game bad.
I'm leaning win for Nebraska right now (of course). The crowd will be nuts for this game. The players have been pointing at this game all season.
Oh, and one more thing...
