Hey, I thought Obama and Harry Reid saved us from a great depression.

The dot head is spot on. My employer started down that road about five years ago. Started ditching older machinery and buying new. Less experienced help got left in the dust and all current key personel avg about 20 years with the company. We work 10 hrs a day mon-thurs cus we accomplish more that way than we would in an 8hr day, 5 day work week. Fridays are in reserve for overtime if needed (about 30% fridays so far this year). We only hire extra workers on a temporary basis and we have been cruising thru this current economy crisis no problemo. We print flexible packaging (bags) for the food industry.

It's an old arguement, but the problem with mechanisation is less labour involved, so no labour=/=no wages=/=no demand =/= noone driving Cameros. I'm actually surprised you agree with him, he's talking about a modern equivalent of The New Deal and that involves tax dollars, which means less freedom, therefore no national identity.88 wrote: I watched a television show this evening with the kids on National Geographic (I think) that showed how GM now bulds the 2010 Camaro in 18 hours. Most of the production is performed by robots. Humans do some important tasks. But all of the lifting, assembly etc. is assisted (at least) by robots. Amazing, really.
We should lead the industrial revolution like we did in the past. We've got the advantages that the author of that article identifies. We ought to use them. Reduce red tape. Reduce burdens on start-ups. Encourage our people to get off their ass and into the game.
