Michigan's new coach
i think dickrod is coaching in the acc next year. the michigan ad has emphasized he's going to consider metrics other than wins and losses when deciding dickrod's fate, something along the lines of "is the program moving forward?" even if dickrod takes three of the four games left (hahahahahaha), i don't see him grading out well enough to stay.
anyhow, blah blah blah. that said, just wondering about the candidates out there other than harbaugh.

Re: Michigan's new coach
Brian Kelly should be available. :)
Harbaugh is the right guy for the job if you can get him.
Who would have thought that Les Miles would have been a better hire than DickRod?

Re: Michigan's new coach
Is the program moving forward...
Offensively?
I'd say they continue to make strides and yes, they've been able to recruit athletes for their system. The problem is that they don't have a true playmaker outside of the QB position.
Defensively?
Next question.
Special teams?
What was that last question?
If he somehow survives, Greg Robinson should be in trouble to keep his job. I think part of that falls on RichRod for not recruiting the right guys and it is becoming more and more apparent that their smaller, faster players are getting beat up by the bigger, stronger players that are traditionally found in the Big Ten. He's not been able to build a team so superior in talent that other programs have to adapt to him. He's got an offensive system that can still work but he needs to still have some basic principles of Big Ten football for his own team...and that includes a physical running game that wears down defenses and helps control the clock, a tough and athletic front seven that can actually go nose-to-nose with a big offensive line and be able to keep an opposition's running attack in check as well as pressure the QB and for fuck sakes...can we get a functional kicking game?

Re: Michigan's new coach
If Harbaugh and Luck stay another season at Stanford, then does Mighigan go with a defensive minded coach?
It seems Shoelace can make that offense work for the next couple seasons with a decent defense on the other side of the ball, but then again they might not be convinced DickRod's offense is suited for the BigTen so a Gruden-like candidate could be in the cards.

I'm thinking Norv Turner would be a good candidate.

Re: Michigan's new coach
You can't get Ferentz this time because his buyout is something like eleventy billion dollars.
But seriously, the list of candidates will be top-caliber.
Don't fall for the Les Miles trap this time- he is not a good coach (I don't care what his record says).
Harbaugh is where you start and go from there. If you get Harbaugh, you go back to Forcier at QB and move Robinson to WR/Wildcat QB. Robinson could not play QB in Harbaugh's system just like Ryan Mallet couldn't play QB in DickRod's system. That Forcier to Robinson combo would be pretty explosive though.
If, for some unexpected reason, Harbaugh decides to stay at Stanford (could happen, he has a nice recruiting class coming in), here would be my list....
-Brady Hoke (Michigan ties, doing well at SDSU)
-Nick Saban (yeah, I'm serious. I still am not convinced he has the attention span to stay in one place for more than a few years. He has Michigan ties)
-Mike Gundy ("I'm a man. I'm 40" jokes aside, he is a very underrated coach. Not easy to compete in the Big-12 South at Okie St and he's done it consistently)
-Chris Peterson (Forcier would be a very good fit in that system and D-Rob would be explosive as fuck at WR)
I would just stop after that as I can't really think of any better hires. Plus, I think it's unlikely to see Michigan go after all of those guys and fail to land one of them. Can't imagine them ALL telling Michigan "no".
Coaches to avoid...
-Les Miles
-Mike Leach (not that I expect Michigan to go after him, but you never know)
That said, I think DickRod will be back next year. I still think Michigan gets to 7-8 wins and that will save his job. Even at 6-6, I would be surprised if they fired him after year 3. Next year, however, he better win 9-10 games or he's gone regardless of how he finishes this year.

Rumor is that Greg Robinson has been stripped of his DC title and will only coach LB's and the DL coach is the new DC, with Gary Moeller being hired as an advisor for the defense. He can't coach the kids, but he can talk to the coaches.

RichRod is going after the media and referencing the Jersey Shore in a presser...the guy has lost his damn mind. I can't deal with another year of this.

Did he really reference Jersey Shore? If so, that is hilarious! Was he quoting "The Situation"??Shoalzie wrote:RichRod is going after the media and referencing the Jersey Shore in a presser...the guy has lost his damn mind. I can't deal with another year of this.
And before you jackasses wonder how the fuck I even know that- I'm married....to a female. I'm not proud of the fact that I know anything about this show, but I do.

You've only got one TV??? You obviously haven't been married for very many years. :)TheJON wrote:Did he really reference Jersey Shore? If so, that is hilarious! Yeah, there's audio I heard on the Detroit station...I think it's from today's presser...he's bagging on the media for them being too negative and he thinks they're doing it because positive news doesn't sell. The Jersey Shore reference was referring the fact that he thinks that we should see some in-fighting with him and the coaching staff...he used the term "cat fighting".
Earth to RichRod, other than Shoelace and the offensive line...this team is another less than mediocre team and it's going to be lucky to become bowl eligible and I don't know if I'm going to get all the excited about a Motor City Bowl bid. The guy has won a grand total of 4 conference games in 2-plus seasons and only one of those was against a team that finished with better than a .500 record.
This guy has no reason to point fingers in the other direction. Take some fucking accountability and stop making a further embarrassment of yourself. You've become Michigan's answer to John L. Smith. Yeah, I went there. This was his slapping himself moment. You've officially lost me, RichRod...be gone and be gone forever!

Wolverines staff will remain unchanged
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Rich Rodriguez has climbed up the ranks of college football because his spread offense has been tough to stop at every level.
At Michigan, though, his defense has stunted his chance to have success.
Rodriguez insisted on Monday that he's sticking with his defensive staff -- led by coordinator Greg Robinson -- and plans to try and spend more time than usual with assistants on that side of the ball.
"I'm not going to be able to wave a magic wand myself and fix some of the issues," Rodriguez said. "Some of the problems are not going to get fixed overnight. We have a lot of inexperienced players playing defensively."
The Wolverines lost 41-31 to Penn State on Saturday night, allowing former walk-on quarterback Matt McGloin to look like a savvy veteran.
"The first thing that was painfully obvious to me after watching the film was that we're just not as fast or as athletic in certain spots as we need to be," Rodriguez said.
After a 5-0 start, this season appears very similar to the last one. That's not good news for the Wolverines' embattled coach.
Michigan (5-3, 1-3 Big Ten) has lost three straight -- heading into Saturday's game at home against improving Illinois (5-3, 1-3) -- after winning the first four games last year and losing seven of the last eight.
Athletic director Dave Brandon isn't ready to share his thoughts on the Rodriguez-led program that has won just four of 20 conference games and 13 of 32 overall.
"I'll comment on the state of the program after the season," Brandon said Monday morning. "I know the coaches and the players are working hard to get better."
The Wolverines seem to be getting worse on defense, giving up at least 34 points in each Big Ten game after opening the season by allowing Connecticut and Notre Dame to score 34 points combined.
"I don't know how much improvement you're going to get during a season," Rodriguez said.
Michigan's secondary was decimated before the season started. Cornerback Donovan Warren chose to skip his senior year to enter the NFL draft, cornerback Troy Woolfolk broke his ankle and other potential contributors either transferred or couldn't get into the school.
The results haven't been pretty.
Michigan's defense ranks 117th in major college football -- out of 120 teams -- against the pass, giving up 290.5 yards a game; 106th in total defense, allowing 440.3 yards a game; 110th in first downs, giving up 184; and teams are averaging 30 points against the unit, sinking it to 89th in the nation.
Defensive end Greg Banks said it's not Rodriguez's fault that he and his teammates aren't getting the job done.
"He's a great coach," Banks said. "It's the players -- we need to take more pride in what he's teaching."
