Larry Coker, the WAC, and the Texas State Bobcats.
Looks like in the wake of Boise State fleeing to the Mountain West, the WAC has invited 3 schools to the party. ESPN reports Denver, Texas State, and UTSA will join the league in 2012. Former Miami coach Larry Coker will be starting the UTSA Roadrunner program from the ground up to start a 1A status, bringing long time Southland Conference rival Texas State to the party. I know most could give two shits, but as an alum of Texas State I feel pretty pumped. Texas State, formerly Southwest Texas State has over 33,000 students and hopefully the move to this level will improve recruiting and maybe awaken a sleeping giant. Their claim to fame is a couple Div II titles in the early 80's under Jim Wacker who later bolted to coach TCU. They also had brief success with Dennis Francionne at the helm. Recently they started to turn it around until David Bailiff left for the Rice job. Let's just hope they can spur enough interest to fill the stadium on game days. With Texas games being so pricey I have been happy to be able to purchase Texas State season tickets the last few years for around 80 bucks a seat. C'mon Bobcats.

Sounds about as exciting as Troy State jumping up a level. Seriously though, a fairly large school like that being located within a recruiting hotbed such as Texas....the could be the next tOSU or FSU within a decade or two.

should have probably said they could become the next boise state rather than the next fsu, though funny how much more plausible that could be now that they're texas state instead of sw texas state.H4ever wrote:...the could be the next tOSU or FSU within a decade or two.
