1-0 (and calling my shot)

Post by MiketheangrydrunkenCUfan »

Feels pretty good. It's amazing what a marginally talented team can accomplish when relieved of the worst coach in college football.

Sorry Minor Threat. Hopefully ISU can still become bowl eligible in their finale.

Fuck it. I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that CU wins out. It's not a stretch to think they can beat KSU in Boulder, and I couldn't think of a better storybook ending to an agonizing season than rolling into Lincoln and upsetting an underachieving Nebraska team to end that riva..., err, series on a high note. After that, it's just a matter of beating up on some directional MAC school (sorry Screw) in a third-tier shit bowl game. Sounds like a fail-safe plan. What could possibly go wrong?

Don't do this to yourself, Mike! You've had a great week.......your coach got fired and you won a game. Be satisfied with that and hopeful for the future.

What's wrong with being hopeful for the present? I don't think any true fan would or should be "satisfied" with a 4- or 5-win season, regardless of the circumstances. Just MHO.

Of course you shouldn't be happy with a 4-5 win season, but it's a pretty big long shot for Colorado to win out. In fact, I think it's more likely to lose out. But going 6-6 might actually be a bad thing for the program because you might end up hiring the interim coach, don't you think? I think there are better hires you can get.

No way does Cabral get the job. He's a great guy and a great position coach, and I really hope the next HC retains him. But even if CU does the unthinkable and finishes 6-6, it'd be seen more as a reflection of how truly godawful Hawkins was than of how good a HC Cabral is.

ISU lost by 1 point to Nebraska last week and had won the previous 2 games. Why would this have been expected given how bad Colorado is?

Because a moron like Hawkins getting fired always gets the troops together for the game immediately after the firing.

I had a bad feeling about this game all week. ISU always struggles in Boulder and I felt it would have been to ISU's advantage if Hawkins would have finished the year out. Hawkins Jr. played great and where did that D-line come from?

Props to the Buffs. Good luck with your last two.

this.

though, i am going to disagree with CU being a lock last weekend. a team that is winless in conference, having lost its last two home games in addition to blowing a 4 score lead in 12 minutes is not a lock. ever. you just don't know, and what you DO know....is they've blown double digit 4th Q leads in 2 of their last 3 games. playing with their 2nd team QB.

too bad about Arnaud.

Always good for a laugh Mike...in case the world isn't aware NU is underachieving offensively mostly because Martinez didn't play last week against ISU and was maybe 80% Saturday night. If he's good to go by the time your fluffies arrive, the storybook will resemble; A Case of Blitzkrieg-Poland Sept 1939.

Also, the defense is not in need of Martinez's services. They're doing just fine as long as Paul isn't setting opponents up with short fields.

A&M has me worried however.

What about the SDSU game or that home loss to a conference patsy? Was Martinez not 100% for those games either? If you can lose at home to the worst team in the South, what makes you think you can't lose at home to the worst team in the North?

Yea and Louisiana-Monroe beat Washington Southeastern Communtiy College who played Eastern Rhode Island to within 3 in overtime who beat Maine State who lost by 1 to East Carolina who beat Pitt who almost beat PSU who is a perrenial power whose team trainer went to CU in 1986.....Yeah...the Buffs got a shot.

H4Ever,

I don't care that you're from Nebraska and, therefore, probably don't have a full set of teeth, but you need to post more often. Your shit cracks me up.

Speaking of Nebraska.....

How's about the Iowa-Nebraska game is for the city of Council Tuckey? Loser each year is stuck with that city for the following 365 days. Deal??

Look, I know that you Nebraskans struggle with fundamental reading skills, so I'll try to clarify my post for you. I wasn't using the old "A beat B, who beat C, so therefore, A>C" circular logic argument. Colorado hasn't even played Texas or South Dakota freakin' State this year (which is a shame, because those two extra wins would make us bowl eligible already). I was simply pointing out two more games in which Nebraska has underachieved this year after Cornhusker tried to spin away their two most recent underachieving performances with the classic "we weren't 100% healthy" argument. (Actually, I was just using his post as an excuse to call Tejas a "conference patsy" and "the worst team in the South," but since you took me seriously, I'll play along.)

For every game where Nebraska has looked great this year, there's another game where they've looked mediocre or even bad. Maybe "underachieving" was the wrong word to use for a 9-1 team ranked in the Top 10, but surely you'd agree that they've been inconsistent throughout the season and have looked very beatable in numerous games. Couple that with the fact that CU/NU games are almost always competitive, and I don't think it's a stretch to say CU has a shot. But mainly, I'm just looking forward to how much it's gonna chap Huskerfan's ass to get beat by CU in the final game of the series for the foreseeable future. There is no "we'll getcha next year" after this one, so you'd better hope your fragile QB is back to 100% by 11/26. One of us is gonna have 'bode for a good long while after this (unless, of course, we have to renew this bitch in the Rose Bowl).

Mike,

You are right that Nebraska hasn't looked flashy in a number of games this year. I think Pelini is one smart mf'er though...notice how Nebraska lit up Okie State when they needed to? OSU is a great team.

There is no better secondary in the nation and many highly rated passing QB's have looked mediocre even tho the front 4 have dropped off a ton this year. Great secondary back there. Special teams play has been top-notch when Niles isn't putting it on the turf on returns.

The Nebraska-Colorado rivalry has morphed into something Bill McCartney never envisioned.....hate on the Nebraska side. Colorado is gonna get fucking annihilated despite the "rivalry". Who you gonna highlight every year on the schedule over in the Pac? Might as well put on the powder blue unis bitches...shit's going to look like vintage NU/CU tilts from the 70's.

This team is guilty of playing up or down to it's competition and plays "nervous" at home due to expectations. The worst thing you can do to support your "called shot" is to hope for an A&M win tonight. If that happens, you're dreams of a "last shot at big brother" will be a nightmare. You see, if they play poorly tonight, you get an ass kicking being next on the docket; Right? You seem to agree with that logic in your statement above. And as long as Pelini has been here, he's never had back to back poor games. Again, your logic supports this.
You pull for A&M tonight. You know you can't help yourself. Classic KYOA.

be interesting to see how Colorado comes out at home today against KSU. if history suggests anything, it's that Snyder will come after Cody in a big way. CU's much improved DL play a week ago would be a big help up from to stop KSU's run game. Mike, if you don't know, the CU AD site will be streaming the game for 10$. sort of begs the question why they haven't before.

2-0 now. Aside from Nebraska, there's no other team I'd have rather beaten on the way out the door than KSU and their classless fan base. So long, Mildkittens. Enjoy fighting for scraps along with the other peons at the feet of might Tejas.

Not sure. He seemed burned out towards the end -- but I doubt he'd take another job if he still felt that way.

Pluses:

-Very very good manager, and ego allows him to delegate effectively.

Huge playcalling balls, when he doesn't delegate.

Works hard, recruits well.

Pleasant to fans/media.

Cons:

Maybe not the greatest football mind. Sometimes doesn't see the forest for the trees.

if i'm NU i'd be a little concerned on the short week that people are going to be talking about Pelini's antics, Martinez's health, "what might have been" deep into the week. need to get some focus. Colorado has nothing to lose and have been pretty effective on O and vastly more physical and aggressive up front on D since dumping Hawkins. They've got a puncher's chance. Cabral is old school McCartney, no "red" in the Dal Ward Center, this is THE rivalry for CU....CU is going to be up for this one. They may not have the horses, but NU comes out flat....it could be "on".
