Does this resemble your work environment?

Post by War Wagon »

Sad to say that it does mine these days. In 27 years at my company, I've never seen so much CYA as the past 6 months.

I don't like it. Told this new guy whom I now supposedly report to that it literally feels like I'm working in a Dilbert cartoon. He failed to see the humor.

I work from home whenever I want (assuming my calendar actually allows for it.) There's beer/wine in every fridge. If you're working after 6 p.m. (5 p.m. on Fridays) no one gives a shit if you drink. During this so-called recession, my company has doubled in size. Most of my co-workers have advanced degrees and none of us punch a time card. Oddly, no one works less than 50 hours/week. I am not feeling your pain. It is a public company, btw.

This much I know... if one of my employees makes a (big) mistake, it's because I didn't teach him/her well enough.

When are homeowners going to start being accountable for themselves?

As for the job? I've been thrown under the bus by my direct boss while I was sitting there in front of him. We had a significant leak that set off multiple alarms. I took the lead on containing the leak, but before I did anything I radioed the control room and told them I was going under SCBA to isolate the leak with a backup person watching me. They transmitted back "10-4". I isolated the leak with extreme caution; nobody was hurt and all was back to normal.

One week later I'm sitting in a conference room with my supervisor, the Ops Supervisor, Ops Manager, Plant Manager, and Safety Manager while recounting my version of the story. They turned to my supervisor and asked him why he wasn't down there offering support. He said he didn't know anything about it until after we blocked the leak in and came back to the control room and told him what happened face to face. What a fucking asshole. They turned back to me and asked why I didn't call him directly to come down there and be incident commander on the leak. I just shook my head and told them I fucked up on the protocol and it wouldn't happen again. Truth is, my supervisor heard my transimission on the radio AND he is notifed of any gas leaks on his computer console in his office, so he knew what was going on, but he just didn't get off his fat ass to come out there and check on us because he knew I had the shit under control. But when they started asking him why he wasn't down there overseeing my actions on containing the leak, that motherfucker used me as a shield whilst running for the woods. I was pissed, but what could I do? Go up against my boss who could potentially make my job miserable as fuck? Nope. I just took my medicine and have moved on from this incident.

To answer your question, Wags, yeah, I know what its like to work in an environment that puts the employee on an island.

You're right, Screwey. It's really shitty with the six figure take home this year, 5% matching on my 401k, 100% medical coverage, subsidized life insurance plans for me and Mrs. Rumps, reimbursed health club membership dues, and employee stock purchase plans at a discounted price.

Nope. In fact at our meeting this week, my boss made a point of saying, "I don't want you all to be afraid to take risks or feel like you have to run everything by me. If you make a mistake, I'll take care of the heat."

That said, he's a Palestinian* who vacations with his wife and kids in the Gaza Strip and he does have a temper. He could snap, yell "Allah Ackbar!!", and blow the shit out of the coffee machine at any time. Gotta take the bad with the good, I guess.

Rack^^^^ I dated a girl about 8 years ago who worked for a small business networking or some shit firm that had that kind of leadership and support. I recall many times sitting around in the founder/CEO's office during weekly Friday meetings. Dude had a fully stocked wet bar and and liked that everyone had a couple, four during the meeting. What made the guy money is that he paid cabfare for every employee that had been drinking and needed a ride and also let them keep their vehicles overnight in the secured parking lot. Dude was big on Christmas bonuses and typically handed out at least 5k every year. That's the way it should be.

!) I bet the turnover rate was miniscule....it amazes me how few companies pick up on that concept.

2) I bet there's no union there because the employees don't feel a need (again...amazing how few companies pick up on that concept).

I'm still wondering what any representative of any bank says in court has to do with anyone being stupid enough to enter into a 6-figure, legally binding contract that has a provision that allows one of the parties to change the terms of the contract without any discussion or recourse.

What Dins said.

If the housing market crashed here like it did in other parts of the US, then I wouldn't be turning to the government with my hand out begging for money because the banks fucked me over.

Sub-prime morgages, bad leveraging, overextending, or whatever you want to blame the banks on....I don't see enough blame being put on Jane and John Housebuyer who had a combined income of $65,000/year and signed their name on the dotted line for a 100% FHA loan worth $250,000.

It's called living within your means, Screwey.

Credit is a two-way street, you fucking moron. Banks aren't just giant money trees with IOUs that say "please, help yourself, but only take enough that you can promise to pay back." The banks have been the biggest welfare queens in this whole debacle. They securitize mortgages but in their epic greed fail to heed (or even give a shit) about 400 years of property law in America. "Yeah, we can't prove we own the mortgage, but these people are fucking deadbeats, so we're gonna take the house anyway." And the greatest "Yeah, we're gonna lie under oath and we should be able to get away with it because, you know, these people are deadbeats."

Fuck you and your ilk, Rumps.

Ahh...I am not a real estate or mortgage honk here but it seems that based upon the past lending parameters even at 100% that a combined income of 65K and a 250K mortgage at 5% over 30 years would put the payment about $ 1,344 per month which is a couple of hundred bucks under the past 28% of income parameter used. Seems like they should be able to do that IF they did not have a lot of other debt like excessive car payments and CC debt and good FICO ...but most people do not understand that concept, so I guess it is flawed logic.

Oh, it's a slimy piece of fucking business. Look for Congress to cornhole the taxpayer once again not to mention the rule of law. Bottom line summary is that we are going to see Congress attempt to quietly cheese an ex post facto law into effect which will legitimize fraud and perjury. This is straight up banana republic thuggery.

The bottom line is that people, whether or not the bank can find their note, are still in default. They should not be able to walk away from that mistake Scot-free because of a clerical error.

I had a choice 4 years ago as to how big a house I wanted. I chose to buy a house for 70% of what the bank would approve me for because that was the amount I felt like I could afford should my income be cut in half. I remember Bushice in particular mocking my "undersized" house selection. Now I am going back to college and am in no danger of losing my house whatsoever, even though I have been unemployed for over a year. Should the job market be shitty when I stop going full time after next semester, I will be able to make my mortgage payments on a salary as low as 10 dollars an hour.

It's really not hard folks. Banks are not approving you for those loans because they love you. You need to look at your own finances with an eye towards protecting the interests of you and your family should the WORST happen, not the best. If I had taken out the max mortgage the bank was willing to give me, I would be fucked. And if I had chosen to get more money by going the subprime route, I would have lost my house already.

So once again, fuck you Bushice wherever you are.

You are truly one of the worst pieces of shit to ever post on this board. Start giving up your paycheck for reparations now and then you can shut the fuck up about your racist blasts.

Your are right. And the problem with being able to afford my abode in even the worst economic crisis is what? I have a wife and a child to think about besides myself.

Oh, and another thing about Rochester. Since we never had a real estate bubble, there was no corresponding real estate crash. Home values have stayed constant throughout. So my house is not even close to underwater.

Give me some credit Marty. I roll like Sir Mix-a-Lot in that I like my women to look like women.

Bullshit. If you think fiscal or personal responsibility is the property of any political party, you're obviously quite deranged.

No. You taking full responsibility for your financial shortfalls and suggesting everyone else to do the same is a far cry from most unemployed libtards who are looking for the government to develop a program to bail them out.
