You complain about taxes, but you're ok with staffing prisons with mongloids who risk incurring millions of dollars in litigation that will be paid by...wait for it...the taxpayer.

My best friend's mom is a prison guard and a friend from high school is a corrections officer. Both are Down's Syndrome-grade stupid.

I judge pay scales by a very simple standard.

What could said person make if he had to go out and get another yob.

If you are making $25/hr and could go out and find another job with your given skill set at something close to that, you are paid about right.

If you are making 32/hr but couldn't find anothe rjob making more than 11/hr, then, yeah, maybe you are a bit overpaid.

I suspect quite a few prison guards fall into this category. For the most part prison guards are guys that aren't bright enough to be regular cops.

And THAT ain't too bright.

I look at it as a sliding scale based on the percentage of people who can do your job. Just about everyone is capable of digging a ditch, therefore it pays the least.

Since I don't have a college degree, I've used ^^this as my way of getting ahead in my career. Basically the more shit I learn, the more valuable I become and the harder it is to cut me loose.

sounds like we're in the same boat, mike. coupla squids with a little bit of navy training and a little bit of smarts getting by in a world where everybody seems to think you need a degree. trouble is, i've run into more than 1 "degreed" types who are about as smart as a box of rocks with all the smart ones taken out.
