Our largest client was a hospital in JP right smack dab in the middle of the “Murder Mile.” I had to work on-site MWF at this shithole and it was some scary shit. Been a staple at bars and mom&pops around here as long as I can remember.

But then again, we take our processed potato products pretty seriously around here. I could go on to mention that every processed/frozen potato product you've ever eaten in your life all came out of Hermiston, OR (kind of a shithole), where the processing plant is about the size of Boston... but that doesn't really have much to do with restaurant recommendations in Boston... which I don't have, but I'll bet the Woman does, since she lived there most of her life.

Went to a place called House of Nanking when I was in San Francisco a couple of weeks ago. It was about two blocks from my hotel on Kearny Street, and I had been told by an old friend in the Bay Area that it was a place to try. Small, not well lit, piles of cardboard boxes and stuff on the floor, you have to sit at long tables with strangers and the tables and chairs don't necessarily have four equal length legs.

About the best Chinese I've had though. Went back for a second dinner the next night.

DINS -- Admittedly, I never saw them on a menu before the movie came out, but now they're served in a few places... mostly your sports bars and/or "campus" bars.

As far as the U&L serving them eons ago... I am not doubting you. You fuckers seem to be ahead of the curve and most likely "invented" restaurant tater tots.

Proper Tater Tots are deep fried... screw that baked shit.

Heck, you can find Tater Tot burritos around here... and there the Oregon Burrito, which has hash browns in it. Some places substitute Tots for corn chips in nachos.

As I said, we take our agrocorp overly processed taters pretty seriously around here.

Also -- they just opened a Sonic right down the street from me (I'm kind of food-spoiled in my hood, adjacent to a major business hiway, with probably at least 3-4 dozen places to eat in less than a 10 minute walk)...

and Sonic is simply inedible.

And I can't think of a finer place for idiots to be running around on roller skates that NW Oregon, where it rains for 3 months straight (they build big canopies over their shit around here).

They accomplished the seemingly-impossible -- to be worse than Burger King.

Sonic burgers are not good, but any place can fry frozen tots and slap a piece of American cheese on it which is what they do. I have them drop some jalapenos in a well. And a soda with flavor syrup is about the same anywhere you go.

Pretty sure every Native around here (all 50 of us) learned this right after they learned to pronounce "mommie" and "daddie."

I seem to recall they have a massive plant in Ontario, or some place near the border. I believe (could be wrong) that Heinz also owns the MASSIVE plant in Hermiston. Those places are really something to see -- those buildings look like they cover a square mile.

Out in the desert, but with big rivers to irrigate with -- ideal for cranking out huge yields of potatoes and onions.

You gotta be careful eating on Kearny St. For every House of Nanking, there are three. real Chinese restaurants where you'll be eating soup made out of fish eyes and chicken cocks.

If you love sushi, Kearny St in SF's Japantown is the best in the US. That's where us NorCals got our sushi for decades before sushi restaurants sprung up in every city in the 90's.

Used to go to Sam Wo's on Washington many years ago. The owner (Edsel Ford Fong, RIP) was somewhat of a local SF celebrity back then. Anyway, you'd walk in through the kitchen on the ground floor and then up the back stairs to the 2nd, 3rd or 4th floor dining rooms. The whole thing was about 15 feet across with a two table on one side and a four table on the other. Eddie would throw a couple of dogeared menus and a pad of paper on the table and say "you write down order, and you must specify!! Make sure you specify!!"

Fucking good times. My friend told me it's not what it used to be anymore. Too bad.

There are a shitload of Sonic's in these parts. I don't stop there often, but every once in awhile I'll get a hankerin' for a foot long chili cheese coney.... and a large tater tot. Only thing I'll ever order.

Unpastuerized/unprocessed "fresh" (but from a container) fruit juices aren't a real bright idea, either, both because of the ridiculous levels of bacteria, and the high likelihood that you're going to start a fermentation in your guts (which generally isn't terribly unhealthy, but ain't too pleasant).

Now...when we travel, we eat out all the time even in Florida at the condo where we have a full kitchen. There's not much fine dining in our small town besides my kitchen. Besides, 8 years married with 2 kids aged 5 and 3 (and a 3rd due in 2 weeks), eating out is more work than enjoyment.

do you have any problems with traveling that close to the due date? i had to travel to chicago when the OL was extremely pregnant with my daughter. the wife wasn't real happy about that as it was our first.
